Zelda: Breath of the Wild Player Uses Moon Jump Glitch To Mow Grass

A player of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player has used the game’s moon jump glitch to mow the grass of Hyrule, adding a landscaping gameplay element to the Nintendo adventure. While Breath of the Wild offers players lots of freedom when it comes to getting creative in the game, mowing the grass is yet another unexpected BOTW feature.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the least-linear game in the series, allowing players to explore Hyrule and beyond at their own pace. The vast open-world also doesn’t limit players when it comes to pushing boundaries, providing a myriad of weapons and tools, as well as featuring glitches and exploits allowing for fun and creative play long after the main storyline is completed. Many previously-discovered glitches have been a boon for the game’s speedrunning community, cutting time by clipping through set animations or events. The game’s developers have admitted to keeping some of the most fun glitches in BOTW, allowing players to wreak havoc as they play.

Redditor and BOTW fan harryvatoh has demonstrated how the game’s well-known moon jump glitch can be used to turn Link into a super-human lawnmower. The user’s video shows Link easily slicing through some of the grassier areas of Hyrule, something earlier iterations of Link may have found useful when hunting for Rupees. As an unintended and forced feature, Link is frozen mid-animation as he cuts the grass, adding some laughs to the strange gameplay clip.

The BOTW moon jump glitch is one of the most popular glitches in the game, and can be performed in various different ways. Using the paraglider and the moon jump glitch with Revali’s Gale allows for fast travel hovering just above the ground. One of the easiest ways to perform the moon jump glitch to cut some grass is to jump into the air and backflip while attacking with a one-handed weapon at the same time. This forces Link into a sliding state, and not stopping the attack before landing leaves Link gliding horizontally above the ground, slicing through the grass. There are lots of different ways to achieve a similar effect with the moon jump, so it’s worth doing the research to find the easiest method depending on the player’s gameplay style.

While mowing the lawn might seem like a brand new discovery, it’s something fans have been playing around with since the game first launched in 2017. Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been on store shelves long enough for most of its fanbase to have completed the main storyline at least once, leaving players free to test the game’s glitches and exploits in the interest of fun and science. The game may be getting older, but players are still making Breath of the Wild discoveries even today, whether something entirely new to the community or just something a BOTW fan hasn’t seen before.
