Why Spotify Autoplay is not working and three potential fixes

Several Spotify users have said that their Autoplay feature is not working – here are three potential fixes as we look into the issue.

The issue started on Wednesday (April 5) when a number of Spotify users began taking to Twitter to complain that Autoplay isn’t working properly for them.

Some users have reported that they updated the app on their devices and they suddenly started experiencing issues with the feature.

Let’s have a look into the issue and find out how Spotify has responded to the online queries.

Users say Spotify Autoplay is not working

Spotify‘s Autoplay feature enables users to listen continuously to songs even when a particular track or playlist has finished.

However, as of this week, a number of users took to Twitter and complained that the feature is not working for them.

“Why isn’t my Autoplay working for Spotify,” asked one frustrated user.

“I’m having trouble with my Spotify. The next random song won’t play next and my Autoplay is on,” added someone else.

Another one said: “For some reason, autoplay is only working on my playlists at the moment. Is there a way to get it to work outside of playlists again?”

Why the feature is not working

While Spotify hasn’t publicly addressed the issue, it’s clear that the app is experiencing some sort of technical issue with the Autoplay feature.

The platform’s dedicated support page, Spotify Cares, has responded to several users after they reported the continuous issue on Twitter.

Responding to one user, they wrote they will need to “check things backstage” so the issue could be down to a glitch or a bug Spotify needs to fix collectively for users.

In another response, Spotify wrote: “Help’s here! This may sound simple but just to cover all of our bases, does logging out > restarting your device > logging back in make a difference? Let us know.”

In several other tweets, the service encouraged users to reach out via a private message so that a team member can look further into the technical issue.

Users can reach out to Spotify Cares on Twitter by messaging them their username and email address associated with their Spotify account.

Three potential fixes

  • Clear Spotify’s cache

Clearing all of Spotify’s stored data may help you fix the feature and the app. To clear your cache on your mobile device, open your Spotify and go to Settings>Storage>Clear cache.

If you are using Spotify on your desktop, open Spotify and go to Profile Name>Settings>Clear Cache.

  • Log out of the app

Sometimes logging out of the app and logging back in again could fix a temporary issue with the streaming service.

  • Reinstall the app

If none of the above steps work, reinstall the app from all of your devices and re-download it from the App Store or Play Store.
