Aemond Targaryen was one of the members of the House Targaryen. He was known as Prince Aemond Targaryen, Prince Regent, and Protector of the Realm, and was popularly known as Aemond One-Eye, and Aemond the Kinslayer.

He was a dragon rider, his dragon’s name was Vhagar. His character is currently been portrayed by Ewan Mithcell (adult) and Leo Ashton (young) in the television series House of the Dragon.

Who Were Aemond Targaryen’s Parents?

Targaryen was born as the second son of King Viserys I Targaryen with his second wife Queen Alicent Hightower. He had two brothers including an elder brother named King Aegon II Targaryen and a younger one named Daeron.

He also had two elder sisters including a paternal half-sister named Rahenyra from his father’s first wife and another one named Helaena. His father passed away when he was only 19 years old, after which his elder brother became the king.

Aemond Targaryen Death

Targaryen passed away in 130 AC in a fierce fight with Prince Daemon in the Battle Above the Gods Eye, during which, both the parties fought mounted on their dragons.

According to sources, Prince Daemon stabbed Aemond’s eye with a sword called Dark Sister after which, his body along with his dragon Vhagar, sank into the lake and was recovered after several years with the sword in his eye socket and Vhagar’s skull.

Targaryen was born in 110 AC and is believed to have been almost half the size of his older brother, however, he was described as more fierce than him.

Targaryen was described as a wild, bold, hot-tempered, and willful child, who would do whatever he wanted to do. As he grew older, he became a proficient and skillful swordsman, who would often wear night-black armor. He was trained by Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Criston Cole.

During childhood, when Targaryen was fighting with his nephew, he lost his right eye, after which, he put a sapphire in its place. He would often wear an eye patch over his right eye to avoid people being frightened.

Targaryen is alleged to have been in a relationship with Alys Rivers who was the ruler of Harrenhal and known as the “witch queen”. According to sources, she had a son with Aemond as well.
