Golesh began his coaching career as an assistant coach working with the defensive line at Westerville Central High School in Ohio, which had just launched its football programme.

In 2004, he was hired as a student assistant at Ohio State, where he graduated in 2006. As a graduate assistant, he also coached at Northern Illinois and Oklahoma State.
