Kyle Doan was a 5-year-old boy. He was swept away by raging floodwaters near San Miguel on January 9, 2023. The kindergartner has been missing since the day floodwaters swept him in. The search for the child started on Monday and was called off after five hours due to bad weather.

When floodwaters in central California swept away their SUV Monday morning, 5-year-old Kyle Doan, who is now missing, offered encouragement to his mother.

“Don’t worry, Mom,” the boy recalled his father, Brian Donn, saying on Wednesday.

The search team has been searching for Kyle since Monday. Missing boy Kyle’s mother is a special education teacher at the same school in San Miguel Village, San Luis Obispo County.

He heads to the kindergarten, That time team and his mother managed to get the boy out of his car seat when floodwaters swamped their SUV on their way to school.

His mother caught him just as the water had receded at the low point of the highway and started moving the vehicle. His mother held him down with a small purse containing an ID card and her phone.

Her mother was trying to catch him on the bottom and with the current, it was hard to steady things,” Dunn said. “And they parted ways.

Kyle was dying to begin school on the Monday after the holidays.

“He’s a great boy and likes to dance,” Doan said. “He was very talkative, very outgoing. He liked to be silly and tried to get attention in all the ways a five-year-old likes to do. He likes to play soccer and he liked his Paw Patrol.”

He added, “He was just looking forward to returning to school.”
