Today’s tributes were led by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, who said that “a legend has left the planet.” When Gillian, his wife of 55 years, passed away in October of last year, the actor was devastated.

Mr. Davies continued, calling it a “love story for the ages,” adding, “He loved Gill with all his heart; he cited her in every conversation we ever had.”

She first met Bernard at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre. Gillian also had acting aspirations.

As soon as they saw one another, they fell in love. They dated for a while before getting married in 1955. Previously, the family had a home in Weybridge, Surrey.
