- Soon TikToker Eric Decker got the genius idea of memorializing her grand exit by creating a Walmart vest signed by her and selling it online for charity.
Many internet users have been flocking to eBay for the past few days to place their bids and potentially get their hands on the iconic Walmart vest signed by former employee Gail Lewis.
Who is Gail Lewis and why is she famous?
Gail Lewis was a Walmart employee at the Morris, Illinois outlet for the last 10 years. On November 16, she posted a video on her TikTok announcing the end of her service to the company. Gail did so in dramatic fashion. She announced her exit to all those inside the Morris Walmart via a microphone. “Attention Walmart. This is Gail Lewis. 10 year associate Morris, Illinois, 844 signing out. Good night,” she said.
Her sign-off reminded many of the emotional final signoffs by policemen and military officers. Gail stitched her Walmart video with another one where she explains her exit is “happy sad” as she’s going to a better job. She notes how “those people became like family” and everyone took care of each other at her Walmart.
Soon the video went viral and people left comments such as “We will miss you Gail Lewis thank you for your service,” and “When America’s needs call, only Gail Lewis answers.” It now has over 32 million views on TikTok.
How did the Walmart vest signed by Gail Lewis come to be
It was TikTok star Eric Decker, who is also a big Gail Lewis fan, that came up with the idea to create a vest honoring her iconic sign-off. The content creator reached out to Gail to get her to sign a neon colored Walmart vest.
In order to do so, the committed TikToker flew to Morris, Illinois with a Walmart jersey. The two of them decided to auction the iconic piece and donate the money to the charity of Gail’s choice. The Walmart employee chose Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The vest is now up on eBay and stands tall at US $400,600.00 with 129 bids so far.
