Tonya Puckett-Miller died on Friday at age 58 from brain cancer at her home in Mendota Heights. She was the ex-wife of former Minnesota Twins superstar Kirby Puckett.

Tonya was diagnosed with glioblastoma in January 2022.

She was born May 12, 1965, in St. Paul to Margaret Hudson of Edina, and grew up in north Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park. Tonya and Puckett married in 1986 and divorced in 2002.

After the divorce, Puckett-Miller turned her attention to philanthropy, helping to raise millions for groups including Children’s HeartLink and the Puckett Scholars programme, which offers financial aid to University of Minnesota students of colour. Through the Christian group Safe Families, she provided care for distressed children in their homes.

Tonya married Melvin Miller in 2013 and they have seven children, including two from her marriage to Puckett. Miller is a Reverend at St. Paul’s Progressive Baptist Church.
