Tony DeAngelo began his career as a junior ice hockey player for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he was the youngest player in USHL history, frequently competing against college athletes.

In the 2010-11 USHL season, he appeared in 28 games with the RoughRiders, scoring one goal and 14 assists for a total of 15 points.

In January 2011, he broke his kneecap while blocking a hit against the Des Moines Buccaneers, and the injury sidelined him for the rest of the season.

After that, DeAngelo was selected by the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the second round, 24th overall, of the 2011 OHL Priority Pick Draft.

As a rookie in the 2011-12 OHL season, he has 23 points in 68 games. On February 14, the OHL announced that DeAngelo would be banned for eight games for violating the league’s Harassment and Abuse/Diversity Policy. Details of his initial suspension were kept private.

On January 7, 2015, Sting traded DeAngelo to Sault Ste. Maria. He was then optioned to the Lightning’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in 2015. The Lightning traded DeAngelo to the Arizona Coyotes on June 25, 2016, during the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. On November 8, 2016, he scored his first NHL goal in his professional debut.
