The Internet Can't Decide If the 'Harry Potter' Movies Are Christmas Movies

Another holiday season is upon us, meaning that there are endless debates about what is and isn't a Christmas movie. And now, it looks like the Harry Potter franchise has been caught in the crossfire.

The iconic franchise wrapped up a few years back, but still remains a core part of fans' yearly routines. For some, that apparently means breaking out their eight-film box set, or one of the installments, around Christmastime. But does that mean that the Harry Potter films are technically Christmas movies?

As some have argued, if your qualification is that the film in question has to take place during Christmas (the reason why people still think Die Hard is a Christmas movie), most of the Harry Potter films technically pass. But as others have pointed out, the films may have segments devoted to Christmastime, but it's only a small portion of Harry, Ron, and Hermione's school year. So in their mind, the films shouldn't be lumped into the same category as the ever-growing Christmas specials and movies.

At the end of the day, you're more than welcome to watch a Harry Potter film around the holidays, or whenever else your heart desires. But either way, the Internet has had quite a debate about whether it earns the "Christmas movie" title. Here's a round-up of some of our favorite tweets.

@SDel23

I realize that the Harry Potter films aren’t exclusively Christmas movies but the fact that they are no longer a part of Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas feels like a personal attack.

@justgopher_it

Die Hard is absolutely not a Christmas movie, period. Neither is Harry Potter for that matter.

@Jess5_11

Look if you're gonna say Christmas films pick Christmas films not...films with Christmas scenes.

Harry Potter is lovely and has Christmas and snow but it's not a blummin' Christmas film.
