July! We're in the heat of summer now. This month brings to mind the "oohs" and "aahs" of fireworks, long, hot summer days by the pool, and dinners from the grill, complete with buttery corn on the cob. Yum. Here are 10 events and holidays you and your family will want to recognize in July:

Oh, Canada. This is the day informally referred to as Canada's birthday. Much like America's July 4 holiday, Canadians celebrate the holiday with parades, festivals, barbecues, fireworks, and outdoor concerts. July 1

Independence Day

Picnics, parades, fireworks, and more! One of our favorite holidays of the year. July 4. Here are some local RVA fireworks to enjoy! 

**Tuesday, July 4, 2023, the Chesterfield Fourth of July celebration presented by Virginia Credit Union. This event includes a Kids' Zone, food vendors, live music by The Tight Slacks, special entertainment, fireworks and more!Event DetailsChesterfield County Fairgrounds - 10300 Courthouse Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832. Gates open at 5 p.m.; fireworks will begin at dark. There is no rain date.

** Colonial Heights 4th of July Fireworks Show . July 4th, 2023-Fireworks can be seen best around the Southpark Mall Area.

** Fireworks on the Appomattox - The Fireworks display will begin at 9:30 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023 .The display is free and open to the public

**Dogwood Dell - Fourth of July Celebration -Tuesday, July 04, 2023 , 5:00pm .600 S. Arthur Ashe Blvd
Bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy live music and a fireworks show as part of the Festival of Arts.

** Flying Squirrels - A  fireworks show will take place at The Diamond.
The Diamond, 3001 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond ,  game starts at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 4. 

** FIREWORKS AT KINGS DOMINION -JULY 4, 2023, 9:00 p.m.

** Red, White, and Lights 2023- Celebrate the Independence Day holiday with live music, food trucks, and a kids’ zone. The Richmond Symphony is headlining the show with a laser light show finale.* FREE Admission! The finale is a laser-light show set to music. There are NO fireworks.

** FREE FOURTH OF JULY - LEWIS GINTER BOTANICAL GARDEN- FREE admission to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, courtesy of CarMax! Enjoy the beautiful gardens, Butterflies LIVE! and children's activities in the library


Teddy Bear Picnic Day

This holiday came about because of a children's song from 1907 called "Teddy's Bear Picnic." Round up the kids and their favorite stuffies to celebrate. Perhaps the menu calls for peanut butter and honey sandwiches, with gummy bears for dessert? July 10

Shark Awareness Day

Shark facts to amaze your kids:
