Spotify puts star on Taylor Swift songs
Every time you play one of Taylor Swift’s many hits on Spotify, a cute star appears on the progress bar at the bottom.
While the song is playing, the glistening star moves along to indicate how many seconds through the track you are.
People have taken to Twitter/X in confusion, with one person writing: “Now why do Taylor Swift songs have a star on the Spotify progress time bar thingy?”
“Someone explain to me why Spotify shows a little star only when I listen to Taylor Swift,” said another.
Why is there a star on the progress bar?
The star is there because the Anti-Hero singer was named Spotify’s most-streamed artist in 2023 earlier this week.
“Fans everywhere will be thrilled to see Taylor Swift as this year’s top artist, with more than 26.1 billion global streams since January 1,” Spotify said.
“For a limited time, when you play one of her songs on Spotify, watch as the progress bar changes and sparkles to match the song’s era color.”
Leading up to the announcement, the streaming platform revealed 21 puzzle pieces with Swift-themed easter eggs in billboards.
The clues led to a a spotlight video with nods to her universe, featuring everything from cats to her well known red lips.

The singer took to Instagram after she was named as Spotify’s top artist and thanked fans with a brand new song.
“Um ok this is unreal?? I just wanted to say to anyone who listened to my music this year, anywhere in the world, thank you,” she wrote.
She said getting named at Spotify’s Global Top Artist in 2023 is “truly the best birthday/holiday gift you could’ve given me”.
“So I was trying to think of a way to thank you, and a lot of you have been asking me to put ‘You’re Losing Me (From The Vault)’ on streaming… so here you go!”
