Nahant Marsh Oberholtzer Awards honor local conservationists
Nahant Marsh is recognizing outstanding contributions to conservation at their annual awards ceremony.
The organization has announced the recipients of the fifth annual Oberholtzer Awards, which honor outstanding contributions in conservation. This prestigious event honors people who will or have demonstrated exemplary commitment and dedication to the environment.
This year’s recipients are:
James Haring has been awarded the Past Conservation Leadership Award for contributions to environmental conservation throughout his career. His legacy includes charitable contributions to environmental causes and setting Clinton County Conservation on the road to future success.
Haring’s daughters will accept the award on his behalf.
Glenn Drowns will receive the Present Conservation Leadership Award for his commitment to preservation. Drowns has preserved thousands of varieties of heirloom seeds and poultry and teaches kids about environmental science.
Cade Meek will be awarded the Future Conservation Leadership Award to recognize Meek’s commitment to shaping the future of conservation. Using innovative approaches and dedication, Meek has performed several environmental research projects, covering threatened and endangered species like the Blanding’s turtle, Indiana bat and rusty-patched bumble bee.
The Oberholtzer Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at The Bend Event Center, 910 Bend Boulevard in East Moline. Environmental enthusiasts, community leaders and supporters will celebrate the work done by these recipients. The event features brunch, presentations, live music and inspiration for a sustainable future.
