Meet Kelis’s parents and two kids to learn more about her ethnicity.
When Kelis launched a string of angry Instagram posts targeting Pharrell Williams and Beyoncé, labelling Beyoncé “disrespectful” and a thief, a celebrity feud erupted.
Even before the Renaissance album by Beyoncé was released, leaks were a problem. And it all began when a single Instagram fan account started disseminating information about the song.
What Ethnicity Is Kelis?
American singer Kelis is of mixed racial and ethnic heritage. Her father, Kenneth, was a Pentecostal minister and jazz pianist who taught at Wesleyan University.
On the other side, Kelis was inspired to pursue a singing career by her mother Eveliss, a Chinese-Puerto Rican fashion designer.
Along with her three sisters, Kelis Rogers was born and raised in the Frederick Douglass Houses in Manhattan’s Harlem neighbourhood. The third of Mora’s four daughters is named Kelis.
Despite having a Chinese-Puerto Rican mother, Kelis identifies as black.
Although my mother is half Chinese and half Puerto Rican, I consider myself black, Kelis said in an interview. The father I have is black.
Kenneth and Iveliss, her parents’ names, were combined to create her given name, Kelis.
At the age of 14, she was accepted to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts in New York thanks to the influence of her mother.
She joined the Girls Choir of Harlem and picked up the saxophone there. After finishing high school in 1997, Kelis contributed background vocals on the album track “Fairytalez” by the American hip-hop group Gravediggaz.
She later started working with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, collectively known as The Neptunes, on music, and as a result, she was signed to Virgin Records in 1998.
Virgin Records released Kelis’ first studio album, Kaleidoscope, on December 7, 1999. The 1970s jazz and disco music that served as the album’s inspiration was a financial and critical success.
Three singles came out of it: “Get Along With You,” “Good Stuff,” and “Caught Out There.” Her first gold-certified album, it peaked at number 43 in the United Kingdom.
Milkshake – Radio Mix, Deal With It, Trick Me – Club Mix, Bounce, 4th of July (Fireworks), Acapella, Biscuits ‘n’ Gravy, and more songs from Kelis’ hit lists are just a few.

Knight, Kelis’s first child, “doesn’t participate,” she said about him in 2010. He shows up when it’s fun and there is a great photo opportunity. It shouldn’t be split equally, in my opinion, just because your sperm was used.
The couple opted to share joint physical and legal custody, according to TMZ. According to court documents, the ex-couple lists the holidays on which they each have the child; Nas has him on Father’s Day, and Kelis has him on Mother’s Day.
Additionally, they agreed to switch who gets him on birthdays, with his mother getting him on odd years and his father getting him on even years.
Mike Mora is the father of one son and one daughter for Kelis.
Nas and his former fiancée Carmen Bryan also share a 23-year-old daughter named Destiny (Daily Mail).
From his second marriage to Mike Mora, Kelis has two more kids. Galilee and Sheperd Mora are them. She gave birth to Shepherd, her second son, in November 2015.
