Federal police on Wednesday launched an operation to investigate alleged fraud in the vaccination cards of former President Jair Bolsonaro and persons associated with him. Among those arrested was Army Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, a former assistant to Bolsonaro in the presidency of the republic.

The operation, known as Venier, was authorized by Alexandre de Moraes, Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), as part of an investigation into “digital militias”.

Federal police are investigating the entry of false vaccination data into the Ministry of Health with the aim of issuing fake certificates allowing Bolsonaro to travel to the United States. The investigation has executed sixteen search and seizure warrants in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to six arrest warrants.

Vaccination certificates for Bolsonaro, his 12-year-old daughter, his wife and his daughter were found to be forged, marking a major development in the ongoing investigation.
