The football community is in mourning for the passing of famous player Mark Peter Kellar, who was born in Minneapolis and died on November 23, 2023, at the age of 71.
Kellar, who was lovingly referred to as “Baby Bull” and the “Carpentersville Cruncher,” had a lasting impression on the football world.
The beginning of Mark Kellar’s reputation was at Northern Illinois University (NIU), where he was a standout fullback who broke records and was inducted into the NIU Hall of Fame.
His outstanding contributions to NIU football included becoming the national leader in running, and in recognition of his accomplishments, his number-31 jersey was retired.
Professionally, Kellar established himself as a formidable running back by showcasing his skills during stints with the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Fire.
Fans and other athletes are moved by his influence on the game and his alma mater, even though the cause of his death is yet unknown.
Mark Kellar was well-known for his passions for travel, golf, and card games outside of the football field.
He left behind daughters Marcella, Grace, and Meagan as well as granddaughter Audrey. He was described as having a big heart and cherishing time spent with family and friends.
Mark Kellar’s life will be honored during a memorial service at the Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel on December 1.

In honor of a living legend, the football community remembers Mark Kellar for his remarkable career and the long-lasting influence he had both on and off the field.
