Many are wondering if McDonald’s is doing Barbie Happy Meal toys to celebrate the new movie which is releasing this week. It follows Barbie and Ken, played by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, as they leave the perfect world of Barbie Land and go to the real world.
McDonald’s always brings out cool toys when big movies arrive, like Super Mario Bros and The Little Mermaid – but what about Barbie? Read on to find out whether you can get your own Mattel doll at the fast food chain in the USA or UK this month.
Is McDonald’s doing Barbie Happy Meal toys?
No, sadly McDonald’s isn’t doing any Barbie toys or merchandise to celebrate the film.
Many were hoping the fast food chain would replicate the Barbie toys that were available in the 1990s and 2000s, but that’s not the case.
They first introduced Barbie Happy Meal toys in 1990, giving out miniature versions of the Mattel dolls that were around three to five inches.
Each of them had a different theme, including All-American Barbie, Hawaiian Barbie, Happy Birthday Barbie, and Costume Ball Barbie.
After their huge success, McDonald’s released more Barbie toys in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
They continued into the 2000s too, with a range every year until 2005. The final Mattel toys then launched six years later, in 2011.
Everyone is disappointed
It’s now been more than a decade since McDonald’s did Barbie toys and people thought this was the perfect opportunity to bring them back.
One person wrote on Twitter: “I’m actually shocked McDonald’s and places like that didn’t have Barbie themed happy meals and toys.”
“So why haven’t any fast food restaurants collab with Barbie? I want a Barbie meal McDonald’s with a mini Barbie in there.”
A third person added: “McDonald’s should have done Barbie toys for girls and Oppenheimer toys for boys for the Happy Meals.”
Burger King has released a Barbie meal with a pink doughnut milkshake and burger containing pink sauce, but sadly it’s only available in Brazil.

What McDonald’s toys can you get now?
McDonald’s has just launched The Marvels Happy Meal toys in the USA, themed around the movie which is coming on November 10.
The superhero film was supposed to come out in July, hence the McDonald’s toys, but was delayed and pushed back four months.
McDonald’s Happy Meal collaborations are planned years in advance, so it would have been impossible to move the release.
There are eight different characters to collect: Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, Ms Marvel, Nick Fury, Goose, Prince Yan and Dar-Benn.
Those in the UK can get Dobble cards in Happy Meals, allowing you to play the symbol-matching game. There are five themes: Original, water, food, camping, fruit & veg and fantasy.
