Instagram users concerned 2023 'Wrapped' app 'will expose' their activities

As we are near the end of 2023, social media users are eager to look back at their online habits with features like Spotify’s Wrapped and YouTube’s Rewind, but a third-party app that promises something similar for Instagram has sparked concerns, owing to the details it asks the users to share.

Instagram users are trying the ‘Wrapped’ in 2023

Instagram users have turned to the third-party app, Wrapped, which claims to show activities related to your account. At the time of writing this, it is only available in the Apple Store.

The application claims to present an in-depth analysis of your data – which you need to download from the original app – including how many people screenshot your posts, how many users blocked you, and who you interacted the most with among others.

Even though users are met with results on the unofficial app, there’s no way to tell if it is accurate. Meta has a strict policy against revealing any details regarding its users and none of its apps – Instagram or Facebook – show who visited your profile.

You can always learn about your activities on Instagram, but it is highly unlikely that any other app will show you fellow users’ activities corresponding to your profile.

A few users claimed Wrapped showed them different figures with each attempt, making it harder to trust the final result.

Sharing your personal data is never safe

Wrapped asks its users to share data from their personal Instagram accounts, leaving some worried about their online habits being “exposed.”

Instagram does allow its users to download information regarding their activities on its platform, but many are skeptical about sharing the same with a third-party application as it may contain sensitive information that isn’t safe to reveal.

“Has anyone tried this app? I feel this will expose my stalking habit,” wrote one user.

“I had to change all my users so people don’t know I’m stalking,” read one comment.

Another claimed: “It changes every time I open the app. “

“This is against Instagram’s terms of service so if you log into the app with Instagram you might not be able to get back into IG – FYI,” said a third person.

Another comment read: “I tried this and now I am traumatized.”

Instagram has Recap Reel

Instagram introduced a feature called Recap Reel in 2022, allowing users to highlight significant moments from the past year in the form of a reel.

The end-of-year review on Instagram for 2023 is not out yet, but the app may soon let you wrap up this year as it was made available in December last year.

The Recap Reel lets users share up to 10 stories with their followers and the steps are pretty simple.
