How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

new to Windows, well at least post XP SP1, so a newbie, asking:

How do I get the week numbers to the default calendar widget, the one that shows when you click on the time?

How about getting it visible also in the status bar itself in addition to time and date?

Can you even customise the status bar in any way? There appears to be a format for the time and date, but they cannot be manually changed—just selected from a “list” (with just one entry, at Finnish locale, that is).

Anyone know if they are defined somewhere in the registry?

you can adjust the date and time format in settings -> time & Language -> Date & Time -> formats

click the ‘change date and time formats’ and select from the drop down options.

you can show week numbers in the calendar app but not on the calendar that opens when you click on the time in the taskbar.

you might want to make the suggestion to Microsoft development team using the feedback hub.

Thanks, for the reply, although it does not quite solve the problem. The path you gave, leads to the same drop-down menus, I had already found, but with Finnish locale, the menus have only one entry—so no changes are possible that way. The format string is most likely hidden somewhere in the registry. If only one could manually edit it, it might even contain the desired week numbers for the taskbar (if it indeed is an ISO 8601 format string it appears).

I think, I might make a suggestion using the feedback hub, for the pop-up calendar from the taskbar.

Having an issue with the built-in Calendar app in Windows 10? In this guide, we will see how to reset and reinstall the Calendar app in Windows 10.

If the Calendar app is not opening or having some issues, you should first reset the app. Resetting the app will most likely fix the issue. But if the issue persists even after resetting the app, you should try reinstalling the app.

In short, try resetting the app first. If that doesn’t help, reinstall the app.

Method 1

Reset the Calendar app in Windows 10

Resetting the Calendar app will automatically reset the Mail app as well. You will lose all data saved in Mail and Calendar app on this device, including sign-in details.

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Navigate to Apps > Apps & features.

Step 2: Locate the Mail and Calendar entry. Click on the entry to see Advanced options link. Click on it.

Step 3: On the Storage usage and app reset page, click the Reset button. When you see the confirmation dialog, click the Reset button again to reset the Mail and Calendar.

Launch the Calendar app now.

Method 2

Reinstall the Calendar app in Windows 10

Important: Reinstalling the Calendar app will also reinstall the Mail app. After reinstalling the app, you will have to sign-in to your account(s) again.

Step 1: Open the PowerShell with admin rights. To do that, right-click on the Start button on the taskbar and then click Windows PowerShell (Admin) option. Alternatively, you can type PowerShell in the Start/taskbar search field and then simultaneously press Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys.

When you see the User Account Control screen, click the Yes button.

Step 2: At the PowerShell window, type the following command and then press Enter key to uninstall the Mail and Calendar app.

Get-AppxPackage *windowscommunicationsapps* | Remove-AppxPackage

NOTE: If you are unable to uninstall using this method, follow the directions in Method 3 of this guide (scroll down the page to see).

Step 3: Try searching for Calendar app in the Start/taskbar now. If uninstalled successfully, you will not see Mail and Calendar app.

Step 4: Now that you have successfully uninstalled the Mail and Calendar app, it’s time to install a fresh copy of the same from Windows Store.

Click on this Mail and Calendar link to automatically open the Mail and Calendar page in the Store app. Click the Get button to install the same. That’s it!

You might need to sign-in to your account(s) again.

Method 3

Reinstall the Calendar app using CCleaner

If you are not able to uninstall the Calendar app via PowerShell, you can use third-party tools to uninstall the Calendar app and then install the same from the Store. In this guide, we will use the free version of CCleaner to uninstall the Calendar app.

Step 1: Download CCleaner and install the same on your PC. As said before, the free version of CCleaner is good enough for this job.

Step 2: Launch the CCleaner program. Navigate to Tools > Uninstall.

Step 3: Look for Mail and Calendar app entry. Right-click on the entry and then click Uninstall option. When you get the warning dialog, click OK button to uninstall Mail and Calendar.

Step 4: Close the Store app if it’s running. Visit this link of Mail and Calendar and click the Get button to install the same. Congregations! You just reinstalled the Calendar app.

You’ve found the apps, now make them useful by adding your accounts. If this is the first time you’re opening either Mail or Calendar, follow the instructions on the Welcome page. Otherwise, do the following:

In the Mail or Calendar app, select Settings at the lower left.

Select Manage accounts > Add account, then choose an account, and follow the instructions.

Your mail and calendar will automatically start syncing. To add more accounts, return to Settings .

A few more handy things:

No need to add the same account twice—when you add it to one app, the other app automatically connects to the same account.

Switch between Mail and Calendar by selecting Switch to mail or Switch to calendar on the lower-left side of the window.

To see the contacts associated with your accounts, select Switch to People to open the People app.

Delete an account at any time by going to Settings > Manage accounts. Choose the account you want to delete, and then select Delete account. Here’s a quick look at how to change the Event Calendar from the Windows 10 Anniversary Update Taskbar.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is more than just a fit and finish release of Microsoft’s client operating system; there are some welcome productivity boosters littered throughout the OS. One such improvement is the ability to add and manage calendar events from the Windows 10 desktop. Let’s take quick look.

Create Calendar Events Using Date and Time Taskbar Notification

Click the Date and Time in your Taskbar Notification Area; this will display your calendar. At the bottom, you will see a new option to add events. Click the plus sign to add a new event; this will launch the calendar app. Enter your event details then click Done.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbarHow to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Your calendar events for the day will show up in the Notification Area. Events are color coded, so you can know which calendar the event belongs to. If you want to hide events, you can click the Show/Hide Agenda link in the Calendar.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbarHow to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Notifications are also provided when an event is approaching. Events are also integrated into the Windows 10 Action Center; you can modify notifications on the fly which include set to snooze, dismiss or delete.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbarHow to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

There are minor limitations to using calendar events. I notice events were restricted to just the desktop itself. I was expecting to at least receive a notification on my mobile device or an email message in Outlook.com. There is also no option to modify events from the Notification Area itself. So, there is room for improvement, but I am glad to see integration like this happening.

The addition of calendar events is quite basic, but it gives users more intimate and quicker access to managing their daily activities. Other areas of the desktop such as the Taskbar, include improvements in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Be sure to check out our articles about how to utilize these and many other improvements in Windows 10. Have you upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary Update yet, if so; what are your favorite features so far? Let us know in the comments.

All currently supported versions of the Windows Operating System have a Taskbar, and the Taskbar displays the date and the time in its right corner. By clicking on the date/time section of the Taskbar a user can expand the section into an entire widget that displays a calendar of the entire current month and an enlarged clock, along with a link that, when clicked on, takes the user to their computer’s date and time settings.

By default, the date/time section of the Taskbar – and the Taskbar itself – in Windows 10 is pretty bland as it is black in color by default. Since that is the case, most Windows 10 users want to change the color of the calendar and clock in Windows 10’s Taskbar. Now there are plenty of different ways a Windows 10 user can go about changing the color of the date/time section of their computer’s Taskbar – some of these ways also change the color of the entire Taskbar whereas others don’t, and some of these ways involve third-party programs whereas others don’t. In any case, the following are some of the best options a person has if they want to change the color of the calendar and clock in their Windows 10 computer’s Taskbar:

Option 1: Change the color of your Taskbar, Start Menu and window borders

The best and simplest option that anyone who wants to change the color of their Calendar and Clock in Windows 10’s taskbar has is to change the color of their Taskbar, Start Menu and window borders. Changing the colors of these elements – in particular their Taskbar – will consequentially change the color of both the date/time section of their Taskbar and the Calendar and Clock widget that shows up when they click on the date/time section. To change the color of your Windows 10 computer’s Taskbar, you need to:

Open the Start Menu.

Click on Settings.

Click on Personalization.

Click on Colors in the left pane.

In the right pane, make sure that the automatically pick accent color from my background option under Choose a color is disabled.

Under Choose a color, choose a new accent color from the color grid that appears for your Start Menu, window borders, Taskbar and – as a result – your Calendar and Clock.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Apply the settings and enjoy the new color of your Taskbar’s Calendar and Clock.

Option 2: Switch to the secret dark Windows 10 theme

Windows 10 has a pretty dark yet completely secret theme that you can only use after fiddling around with your computer’s registry a bit. This theme also changes the color of the Calendar and Clock in Windows 10’s Taskbar, and here’s how you can apply this theme:

Extract this .ZIP file to a new folder using a compression program such as WinRAR.

Open the new folder once the contents of the .ZIP file have been uncompressed and double-click on the file named enable-dark-theme.reg to launch it.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Restart your computer.

Voila – your Windows 10 computer now has a dark theme and you’ve successfully changed your Calendar and Clock’s color.

Option 3: Switch to a high contrast theme

High contrast themes on Windows 10, unlike those that came with its predecessors, are pretty modern, sleek and stylish. In addition, they apply unique color schemes to Windows 10 computers that make seeing elements easier for the visually impaired and basically give the whole computer an exclusive and extraordinary look. Switching to a high contrast theme is another solution for changing the color of the Calendar and Clock in your Windows 10 computer’s Taskbar, along with the color of basically everything on your computer from text to window borders. To switch to one of the various high contrast themes that Windows 10 comes with, you need to:

Open the Start Menu.

Click on Settings.

Click on Personalization.

Click on Themes in the left pane.

Navigate to Theme settings.

Choose a high contrast theme under the High Contrast Themes section and click on it to select it.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Apply the theme and enjoy the changed color of your Windows 10 computer’s Calendar and Clock in Windows 10.

To reverse these changes, simply repeat the same steps listed and described above but select a default Windows 10 theme instead of a high contrast theme.

Pro Tip: The High Contrast Black theme works and looks the best out of the numerous options that you have when it comes to high contrast themes in Windows 10.

Option 4: Use a third-party Clock and Calendar application

The last option that you have when it comes to changing the color of the Calendar and Clock in Windows 10’s Taskbar, although this solution will also almost certainly change the style of the Clock and Calendar, is to use a third-party application that replaces both the Clock and Calendar in your Taskbar with customizable ones. Two of the best options when it comes to third-party applications of this persuasion are Atomic Alarm Clock and T-Clock. Both of these options come with hordes and hordes of customization and personalization options.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Atomic Alarm Clock can be synchronized to an atomic clock and changing how it looks is pretty simple. T-Clock is pretty old (it was first introduced to the world in 2010) but it does have support for Windows 10, so you’re good on that front. T-Clock limits customization to an extent as its main customization options centre around changing the font, formatting and color of the text displayed by its Calendar and Clock, whereas Atomic Alarm Clock supports tons of different themes that you can play around and experiment with. T-Clock is completely free whereas Atomic Alarm Clock is only free for 60 days, after which you are going to have to purchase it if you want to continue using it.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

For better or worse, Windows 10 has brought us a lot of changes, and the new clock panel is one of them. In case you are wondering, I’m talking about the thing that pops up when you click on the time in the taskbar. When you compare it to the previous versions of Windows, the new clock panel in Windows 10 is really neat and elegantly shows the calendar and date and time and is also touch-friendly while still being comfortable to use with the mouse. That being said, the new clock design is not that appealing if you want to add additional clocks.

But if you still miss the old classic style clock that you had in Windows 7 or 8, then you can bring that old clock back in Windows 10 with a simple registry edit.

Note: before doing anything make sure that you have a good backup of Windows registry editor – just in case.

Bring Back Old Clock in Windows 10

To replace the modern clock with the old classic clock in Windows 10 you need to add a new value to the Windows registry. To do that, press “W + R,” type regedit and press the Enter button to open the Windows registry editor.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Once the registry editor has been opened, navigate to the following location.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

Here we need to create a new DWORD value. To do that right-click on the right panel and select the “New” option and then “DWORD (32-bit) Value.”

The above action will create a new DWORD value with the default name. Just right-click on the key and select the “Rename” option. Then rename it to “UseWin32TrayClockExperience” and press the enter button to confirm the name.

Now we need to the change the value data of the newly created key. To do that, double-click on the key; this action opens the “Edit DWORD Value” window. Enter the new value data of “1,” and click on the “Ok” button to save the changes.

Once you are done with the changes, this is how it will look in your Windows registry editor.

As a final step, just restart your system or sign out and sign in to make the changes take effect. Once you are back up, you will find that you can now start using the old classic clock in Windows 10.

How to use your calendar from windows 10’s taskbar

If you ever want to revert back, just change the value data from “1” to “0,” or delete the newly-created key. If you want to delete it, right-click on the key and then select the “Delete” option.

This action will bring back the new modern clock in Windows 10.

Vamsi – What if, you have a 64 Bit operating system? Do you use the QWORD? When I upgrade to Win 10, I will have the Windows 10 Pro version, which is a 64 Bit version. I happen to like the Win 7 Pro version, of the clock and additional clocks, in Win 7 Pro.

You can just use the DWORD value even on a 64-bit system. Both DWORD and QWORD values are essentially same except that the QWORD can hold any integer within the range of 64-bits.

Vamsi – Thank you, for responding to my question, so quickly. I do appreciate the answer. When I do upgrade to Win 10 Pro, this is another thing, that I will know what to do, to keep what I really like. 🙂

Worked great! 🙂 Easy stuff. Thanks man!

It worked great. I didn’t even have to reboot my computer. I just close the reg editor and it was there… fast and simple. Thank you.

Does anyone know of a similar, simple, small/fast and free timer? Thank you.

If only it worked in the anniversary (1607) build! I hate the new calendar. I had a couple of time zones set up in the old style clock/calendar and I miss having them.

Doesn’t work in the latest version of Windows 10, sadly.
