What are Runes
Hidden amongst all main story missions, you will find 9 runes that can be used to unlock a hidden level titled . Upon visiting the island, you’ll find that it is made entirely up of just Mooshrooms. Unfortunately, these once friendly creatures are now filled with anger and are ready to attack on sight.
It is believed that this hidden level is a reference to Diablo II, which also featured a hidden Cow level.
How Do You Find Runes
Before you go finding runes, it is important to ensure that you have completed the game on Default difficulty mode. Without this level of difficulty completed, the runes will not appear for you in game.
Should you have completed the game, it’s now time to unlock the area in which you will need to access. To do this, make your way to the large church that can be found in the South Eastern area of your camp. To reach the church on your first visit, you will need to travel through some nearby trees in order to reach the entrance. You will find this gap of trees just South of the large house that is just South East of your camp.
Once you are outside the church, pull the lever that is near the entrance in order to lower the drawbridge. Lowering the drawbridge will create a shortcut to the area, making it much easier and quicker to reach.
With the drawbridge lowered, head inside and make your way to the very end of the room. Here you will find a wall with a button on the ground and 9 symbols. Pressing the button will turn all of your currently collected runes Purple.
How to Get to the Secret Moo? Level
Once all the runes have been collected, press the button once again to reveal a hidden doorway that leads to a small room that contains 2 chests and a map. This map will unlock the secret level on the map as “. “.

How to Unlock Soggy Cave
Found in Soggy Swamp, the Soggy Cave hidden area can can be rather difficult to find as its spawn rate is not very common.
To help make the process of finding this location easier, we found that it will only spawn when there are two secrets to be found in the level. In order to view how many secrets can be found, open your full-size map and read the text towards the bottom left of the screen. When it reads two, it will mean that the hidden crypt has spawned. During our experience, the Soggy Cave map can be located during the second/third half of the level and in most cases, on the left side of the map. You’ll know when you have found the area as you will travel down a set of cobblestone stairs and find a dungeon entrance at the bottom.
Minecraft Dungeons has a handful of secret hidden levels. Here’s how you access each of them for even better loot.

Minecraft Dungeons is a family-friendly dungeon crawler, but there’s more to it than might be immediately obvious from a casual run through the game. It actually houses a handful of hidden levels, which are great opportunities for more loot and gems. Like regular stages, these hidden stages can be repeated as often as you’d like, but you’ll have to find and unlock them first.
There are five hidden stages in the main campaign, for a total of 14. The Jungle Awakens DLC has another hidden stage. One element that makes the hidden stages difficult to find is that the levels in Minecraft Dungeons are randomly generated. The entrances to these dungeons can be difficult to pin down to one location, and they don’t even populate into a stage consistently. That means you could enter a stage that doesn’t actually have the entrance at all, and not realize it until you’ve searched high and low and come up empty.
Generally, though, the hidden stage entrances are marked by some telltale signs and tend to populate in a few reliable areas. We’ve outlined where to look below, and if you don’t see it, just exit back to Camp and try again. These can be found on any difficulty and that will unlock them across all difficulty levels, so set it to the easiest difficulty so you can rush through to look for the entrance without worrying too much about enemies. And if you need to comb a level thoroughly, as is the case in some, make sure to turn on your semi-transparent mini-map and don’t follow the yellow directional arrow.
Creepy Crypt (access from Creeper Woods)
This hidden button populates fairly regularly and early in Creepy Woods, usually in a path that splits off to the left from the main path. You’ll find a button tucked into some wooded overgrowth that will lead into an area with the map to Creepy Crypt.
Soggy Cave (access from Soggy Swamp)
Soggy Cave is one of the harder areas to find, either because it doesn’t populate as regularly as some others, or because the general overgrowth of the level design makes it harder to see. Look for a lantern on a stone structure with a temple entrance tucked into some mountains.
Arch Haven (access from Pumpkin Pastures)
Easily the most difficult hidden stage to find, Arch Haven populates into a stage extremely inconsistently and it may take several attempts to find it. Generally, your best bet is to head to the right when you see the large stone ramparts. If the entrance has populated, you’ll find a ship in this direction. Just be ready for plenty of failed attempts.
Underhalls (access from Highblock Halls)
Unlike Arch Haven, the Underhalls is one of the easiest stages to access. The entrance almost always appears in Highblock Halls, and it’s near the beginning of the stage to boot. Just look for an area near one of the first staircases where there are two shields hanging from the wall.
Panda Plateau (access from Dingy Jungle – DLC Only)
This stage is only accessible if you have the Island Realms DLC. In the Jungle Awakens expansion, the first stage is Dingy Jungle. The hidden entrance is relatively easy to find, but it’s deep into a very long level that’s crawling with enemies, so be sure to set your difficulty to an easier setting to breeze through. Near the end when you’re climbing across treetops near the canyon, explore off the beaten path to find a small cave. Inside will be an area that looks like a mixture of jungle and volcano biomes, and there you’ll find the map for Panda Plateau.
Moo?
The final hidden stage is the most complex since it involves finding nine runes scattered across all of the main stages. Once you’ve compiled them all you can insert them in the church at your Camp and that will open the way to the hidden cow level. For help finding all the runes, consult our dedicated Rune Guide.
This Minecraft tutorial explains all about difficulty modes (Peaceful, Easy, Normal, Hard) in Minecraft. Let’s take a closer look.
Difficulty
There are 4 difficulty levels that you can play in Minecraft – Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard. Let’s quickly explain the differences between these modes.
Peaceful Mode
Peaceful mode is the safest mode to use. In this mode, hostile mobs will not spawn and deal damage, with the exception of the ender dragon. The ender dragon is the boss mob in the End biome and will still spawn in Peaceful mode.
You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or falling from heights. If you are damaged, your health bar will slowly replenish over time. Your food bar will not deplete and you will not get hungry. This will prevent you from being able to eat food. The only food you will be able to eat is golden apples.
Easy Mode
Easy mode is harder than Peaceful. In Easy mode, hostile mobs will spawn but deal less damage than Normal mode. However, mobs will not cause you harmful status effects. For example, cave spiders will not poison you and the wither boss will not cause you the Wither effect.
You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or falls. Your food bar will deplete and you will get hungry. You will need to eat food to replenish your food bar. If your food bar is depleted, hunger will only take your health bar down to 5 hearts . So you can not die from hunger in Easy mode.
Normal Mode
Normal mode is the standard mode in the game. In this mode, hostile mobs will spawn and deal the standard damage. Mobs can cause you harmful status effects such as poison or the Wither effect.
You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or fall damage. Your food bar will deplete so you will get hungry and need to eat. If your food bar is depleted, hunger will only take your health bar down to 0.5 hearts . So you can not die from hunger in Normal mode.
Hard Mode
Hard is a more difficult mode than Normal. In Hard mode, hostile mobs will spawn and deal more damage than Normal mode. Mobs can cause you harmful status effects such as Poison or the Wither effect.
You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or fall damage. Your food bar will deplete so you will get hungry and need to eat. In Hard mode, you can die from hunger.
Congratulations, you just learned about difficulty modes in Minecraft.
Minecraft Dungeons is the latest spinoff of the popular series from Mojang. The game offers a few secret levels that players can uncover with some exploration and guidance. And while a few of these levels are easy to find, others are a bit complicated and may take up some time. So, let us take a look at all the secret levels available in Minecraft Dungeons and go over how you can actually unlock them.
You will find a total of five secret levels that you can find in Minecraft Dungeons. Here’s a list of all the hidden missions with location details and a description of how you can go about unlocking it.
Minecraft Dungeons all levels
1. Creepy Crypt
Location: Creeper Woods
Creepy Crypt is a place where you can find emeralds and other loots. You need to search around the area and look for a hidden path towards the left on the map. The exact location cannot be described mainly because the path generator is random. Once you reach a circular area, you need to follow the path that leads you towards a temple. Once you get there, enter inside and look for a green map to unlock the level.
2. Arch Haven
Location: Pumpkin Pastures
Arch Haven is a seaside village island whose map can be accessed within Pumpkin Pastures. You will get the map for the hidden level located inside a small pirate ship. To locate the map, you need to head to the bottom of the ship. You should see the map across the other side of the room. You need to go through the enemies to unlock this level.
3. Moo?
Unlocking the ‘Moo?’ can be a tricky one. The first step to unlock this level is beating the game with difficulty set to default. Once you have completed the campaign, you need to visit a dog’s portrait which is close to a church near the Camp area. Behind the dog’s picture, you will see a golden button that has ten runes on top. You need to track all the runes and go back to the button and interact with it to unlock this level.
4. Soggy Swamp
Location: Soggy Cave
The Soggy Cave is one of the most difficult spots to find. You need to head towards the second part of this area and start looking for dungeons towards the left on the map. Once you find a few ruins, you will know that you have come to the right cave. After you have found the cave, you need to complete the puzzles to unlock the level.
5. Underhalls
Location: Highblock Halls
This is a relatively easier level to unlock as compared to others. You need to visit the Highblock Halls and look for a set of stairs at in the main hall. Head down the steps where you will find two shields hanging on a blank wall. Once you find it, you need to interact with one of the shields to open a secret passage. This will unlock the Underhalls level.

Minecraft Dungeons Runes are scattered throughout every level. Each main area in Minecraft Dungeons has a secret location with a rune in it. Collecting all ten runes in Adventure Mode allows you to unlock a secret level. Before you do this, you will first need to defeat the Arch-Illager in Story Mode. Once he is defeated, this secret “quest” opens up.
In this guide, we will walk you through where to find the Rune location and explain what they unlock in Minecraft Dungeons
How to unlock Minecraft Dungeons Secret Levels
Make sure you’re in Adventure Mode, and then you will need to find the secret areas on each level. Doing so will unlock a secret level that you can explore for some awesome loot. Here’s a breakdown of each secret area you need to find, with an in-depth explanation below:
Keep in mind everyone’s map will be slightly different due to procedural generation. However, certain parts of the map always look the same. They may be slightly rotated or pieced together differently, but the secret locations should be roughly the same. After finding all ten runes in the secret locations, you unlock the hidden level.
Secret Church Location
You first begin in the Lobby, also known as the Camp. After defeating the Arch-Illager in Normal Mode, you unlock a new area in your starting zone. Start inside the Camp and head down and to the right. Go past the house with the portal until you get to a springboard. Jump across both springboards and hang a left through the trees off the path.
Continue on your way until you get to the church. Follow the red carpet through to the end where you will see a button. Pressing this button shows you your rune progress. You have just unlocked your first rune for finding this location.
Creeper Woods Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
Get to the end of the level where you need to start freeing villagers from the cages. You can find a portal on the ground in the middle of some stone platforms. Go inside and head through the level and step on the center of the platform. You will find the next rune in this area.
Pumpkin Pastures Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
There’s a stone castle wall throughout this level. Follow it to the end and you might notice some slightly off-color bricks. Look for a little switch nearby and activate it to open the wall, revealing a secret level. Go inside and follow it through to the end for the next rune.
Soggy Swamp Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
After defeating the Cauldron, proceed to the end of the level but do not exit. You will see a stone temple with a bunch of mushrooms near the bottom of it. Among the mushroom you can find a switch to open the wall and reveal the secret level.
Cacti Canyon Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
In this level you will reach a point where you need to defeat enemies to get a blue and yellow key. At this part, you only need to defeat the first wave of enemies and then head to the area towards the next key. You will see an area with a palm tree. You can find a hidden switch behind the palm tree to open up the next rune location.
Redstone Mines Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
In the Redstone Mines, you have a mission to free enslaved villagers. At one point, you will come to a room where you need to free a bunch of villagers at once. There is a small portion of the wall where you can tell a portal could be, and next to it you can find a lever on the wall. Click on it to reveal the portal for the Redstone Mines secret location rune.
Desert Temple Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
As soon as you open up the room using the golden key, you can find a switch inside the next room. It’s on the right side of the wall next to a palm tree. Activate the switch to activate the portal and open up the pathway. The next rune will be inside.
Fiery Forge Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
Here’s an easy one to find. Near the start of the level, you will see a golem on the ground with some light shining on him. At the bottom of the stairs on the wall, you can see a lever. Activate it to reveal the portal to the Fiery Forge secret location rune.
Highblock Halls Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
In Highblock Halls, it’s a bit confusing to find the secret location. You need to look in the main outside area of the level, which is kind of like a village. In this area, you can find an unlit torch on the wall that you can interact with to open the portal to the next location. Try your best to look for the unlit torch, because that’s the giveaway.
Obsidian Pinnacle Rune Location in Minecraft Dungeons
Head to the inside area of the level to the tavern library area. You will find a wall of bookshelves at the top of the stairs. One of the books can be clicked on to open up the portal to the next rune location. This area is visible on the map. Also, you get some bonus loot in the rune room which is a nice surprise.
Now that you found all of the runes in the secret levels, you can head back to the Church. The runes should all light up now and unlock the final secret level. Walk into the portal and claim your loot. If you want to see what to expect in this hidden level, check out our post about the secret cow level in Minecraft Dungeons, also known as Mooshroom Island.

Which difficulty level should you pick in Minecraft Dungeons? Here’s everything you need to know
Which Minecraft Dungeons difficulty setting should you choose? If you’re starting out in Minecraft Dungeons, you may be new to the world of top down action-RPGs, a hack and slash style genre where you build character abilities and move through waves of enemies. In Minecraft Dungeons you’re tasked with storming through levels to take down mobs and free villages from the wicked clutches of the evil Arch Illager.
If you’ve played through a couple of levels, you may find it too easy, or too hard – good news. You can adjust the difficulty easily before jumping in to each level. There is the overall difficulty, which has three different levels: default, adventure, and apocalypse. You’ll need to complete the game on each previous difficulty setting to unlock the next, thus proving yourself worthy of taking on the next apocalyptic challenge. Here’s how long Minecraft Dungeons is – so you can power through to reach a higher tier. As you progress in the difficulty setting, there is a better chance of finding Minecraft Dungeon artifacts and ultra good rewards, such as the best Minecraft Dungeon enchantments.
Within each Minecraft Dungeons difficulty there’s also a threat slider, which ranges from one to six, with one being the least offensive, and six being very challenging. Minecraft Dungeons will recommend the difficulty and threat slider to you based on your current level – making it easy to gauge how comfortable your current skills will be. If however, you want more of a challenge, here’s all you need to know about the difficulty settings and threat slider in Minecraft Dungeons.
Minecraft Dungeons difficulty settings
Default
- Enemies are balanced for a first playthrough
- Very few enchanted enemies
- Rewards are average
Adventure
- Enemies are hard to defeat and hit hard
- New enemy enchantments
- Rewards are better
- New gear and artifacts
Apocalypse
- Enemies are ultra beefy and ultra punishing
- Lots of powerful enchantments
- Rewards are ultra good
- Even more gear and artifacts available
Minecraft Dungeons threat slider
We tried and tested all these settings within the threat slider, even ones above the recommended amount, and it does provide much more of a challenge. As a level 10, we took on a level 27 suggestion, with dire results. We recommend going up one on the slider for more of a challenge, maybe two if you’re confident.
