So many stores, service stations, coffee shops, pubs and so on offer free Wi-Fi that you probably have countless networks saved on your phone or laptop. Having a password saved on your computer is great, but how can you get the password so you can use it on your phone as well?
Rather than trying to hunt down a member of staff to ask, or hunting high and low for that tiny sign that shares the password, you can instead view the wireless passwords you have saved. Read on to find out how to retrieve these passwords in both Windows 10 and Android.
If you already have the password for a wireless network saved on your laptop and want to retrieve it to use on your phone — or share with someone else — things are quite simple. The same method works in Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10, but it’s important to note that you need to be connected to the network you are trying to retrieve the password for.
- Press the Windows key and R, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter.
- Right click on the wireless network adaptor and select Status.
- Click the Wireless Properties button.
- In the Properties dialog that appears, move to the Security tab.
- Click the Show characters check box, and the network password will be revealed.
If you want to retrieve a saved wireless network password from Android or iOS, you’ll have to have a rooted or jailbroken device — sadly, there is no standard way to pull up security credentials. It’s worth noting that there are several apps out there in Google Play that claim to reveal Wi-Fi passwords; while some of these work, there are also numerous malicious tools out there, so it’s best to use an alternative method.
If you’re using Android, install a copy of the free file browser ES File Explorer.
- Navigate to the data/misc/wifi folder on your device — it will not be visible on non-rooted phones.
- Open the file called wpa_supplicant.conf and you will see a list of saved Wi-Fi networks complete with their passwords.
To retrieve a Wi-Fi password on a jailbroken iPhone, you can check in the Keychain access app if you have a Mac connected to the same network, but there’s another method if you prefer to do it all from your phone.
Fire up the app, and you’ll be presented with a list of all of the passwords your iPhone has for saved wireless networks.

Windows remembers every Wi-Fi password you’ve ever used. That’s how it reconnects to those networks. Here’s how you can view the saved password of any network you’ve ever connected to on your Windows PC.
Download NirSoft’s WirelessKeyView
You can view saved passwords with built-in command-line tools in Windows, but we recommend NirSoft’s free WirelessKeyView application. It’s a lightweight tool you don’t even have to install to use—just download it, open the ZIP file, and then double-click the included EXE file (if you have file extensions hidden, open the “WirelessKeyView” application file). You’ll then see a list of saved network names and their passwords stored in Windows.
Update: Some antivirus programs may say WirelessKeyView is malware. That’s a false positive, if so—we’ve never had issues with NirSoft’s free utilities. Unlike many modern Windows programs, they don’t even contain adware.
The “Network Name” column shows the name of the Wi-Fi network—in other words, its SSID. To find the password associated with a network, look under the “Key (Ascii)” column for that network name. This is the password you type to connect to that network.
To back up this information, you can select File > Save All Items. You’ll get a text file containing this information, so you can take it with you to a new PC or store it for later.
Use the Command Line
Windows 10’s standard Control Panel only lets you see the password of the Wi-Fi network you’re currently connected to. If you don’t want to download third-party software, you’ll have to use command line tools to discover this information.
To find a password on Windows without third-party software, open a Command Prompt or PowerShell window. To do this, right-click the Start button or press Windows+X, and then click “PowerShell.”
Run the following command to see the list of saved network profiles on your system:
Look for the name of the network you need the password for, and then run the following command, replacing “NETWORK” with the name of that network:
Look under “Security Settings” in the output. The “Key Content” field displays the Wi-Fi network password in plaintext.
Repeat this process for each Wi-Fi network you want to find the password for.
If you don’t have it saved in Windows, there are many other ways you can find a forgotten Wi-Fi password, including on another device (like a Mac), in a router’s web interface, or even printed on the router itself.
“How do I see a Wi-Fi password on a Windows 10 PC?”
If you are trying to see the password for the network that you’re currently connected to, follow these steps:
- Right-click the network icon on the toolbar and select “open network and sharing center.”
- In the resulting window, click “Change adapter settings,” right-click on the Wi-Fi network, and select “status” on the drop-down menu.
- In the resulting pop-up window, select “Wireless Properties,” then click on the Security tab.
- You should see a check box beside “show characters.” Check this box to reveal your password. (Note: Windows 10 refers to this as a network security key instead of a password.)
If you’re looking up a Wi-Fi network that is out of range, you’ll have to use a command prompt, which is easier than it sounds:
- Open command prompt, and run it as an administrator.
- Then, type the following command:
- This command will list every Wi-Fi profile that you’ve ever connected to. To reveal the password of a specific network, type the following command, substituting “NETWORK NAME” with the Wi-Fi network you’re looking up:
netsh wlan show profile “NETWORK NAME” key=clear
You’ll see your Wi-Fi password in ‘key content,’ under security settings.

Forgetting your Wi-Fi passwords can be a real pain. Unfortunately for me, it happens more often than I’d like to admit. However, forgetting your Wi-Fi password should not be a huge issue. That’s because there’s an easy way to find out the password of your current Wi-Fi connection in Windows 10. You can even view the saved Wi-Fi passwords for other networks you have connected to in the past. So if you cannot recall your password, fret not because here’s how you can find saved Wi-Fi passwords in Windows 10.
Easily Find Wi-Fi Password in Windows 10
In this article, we will show you two methods to find your Wi-Fi password in Windows 10. The first one will use the network settings in your Windows 10 PC, while the second one will require the command prompt. Both methods work for private networks, public Wi-Fi, and mobile hotspots. So without further ado, let’s check out how you can see all saved Wi-Fi passwords on your Windows 10 computer.
Find Wi-Fi Password Using Network Settings
Using Network Settings, you can view the Wi-Fi password for the network you are currently connected to. Here’s how you go about it:
1. First, search for ‘control panel’ in the Windows Search Bar. Open the Control Panel and click on ‘Network and Sharing Center‘.
Note : If you can’t find the ‘Network and Sharing Center’, it might be because you’re using the ‘Category’ view in the Control Panel. Either change it to ‘Small icons’ using the ‘View by’ drop-drown menu at the top-right corner or go to ‘Network and Internet -> View network status and tasks’ while in Category view.
2. Now, click on ‘Change adapter settings‘ in the left sidebar.
3. Next, double-click on the target Wi-Fi adapter to open the Wi-Fi Status window for that connection.
4. From the Wi-Fi Status window, click the ‘Wireless Properties‘ button. On the next page, move to the ‘Security‘ tab.
5. Finally, click on the ‘Show Characters‘ checkbox to see the Wi-Fi password (i.e Network security key) for your current network.
Find Wi-Fi Password Using Command Prompt
Using the command line interface, you can not only find the password for your active Wi-Fi network but all saved networks on your Windows 10 PC. Here’s how to go about it:
1. Firstly, open Command Prompt in Admin mode on your Windows 10 computer. To do that, search for ‘cmd’ in the Search Bar and click on ‘Run as administrator’.
2. Now type in netsh wlan show profile and hit Enter. This command will display a list of all networks whose passwords are saved on your PC.
3. Now select the Wi-Fi network whose password you would like to see. Then, type in the following command and hit Enter: netsh wlan show profile name=”xyz” key=clear . You can see the saved password under ‘Key Content’. Do replace “xyz” with the name of the Wi-Fi network whose password you’re trying to find.

Windows allows to save passwords used to connect to Wi-Fi networks. Due to it, if a known Wi-Fi network is within range of your wireless network adapter, Windows can automatically connect to it without asking for a password. In this article we’ll show how to extract saved passwords for Wi-Fi networks on Windows 10, transfer the list of saved wireless networks with the security keys to other computers, and how to remove (forget) certain WLANs.

How to Find the Current Wi-Fi Password on Windows 10?
If your Windows 10 device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can view its password (security key) through the Control Panel:
List Saved Wi-Fi Passwords on Windows 10 Using Command Prompt
Above, we have shown how to get the password of the current Wi-Fi connection on Windows 10. However, you can view a password of any wireless network to which your device has previously connected. This info is only available in the command prompt using the built-in netsh tool.
When you connect to a Wi-Fi network, Windows creates a WLAN profile for it containing a network name (SSID), a password (a security key) and some Wi-Fi security options used to connect to the wireless access point. You can display the list of saved WLAN profiles using the following command:
netsh wlan show profile
To get information about a specific WLAN profile and its saved password, you need to specify its SSID. For example:
netsh wlan show profile “Xiaomi_10D1” key=clear
The saved Wi-Fi password is specified in the Security key field.
Display All Saved Wi-Fi Passwords Using PowerShell
Using PowerShell, you can display the list of all saved network SSIDs and passwords. Here is a PowerShell one-liner to display passwords of all WLAN profiles on Windows 10:
| Format-Table -AutoSize | Out-File $env:USERPROFILE\Desktop\SavedWiFiPass.txt
How to Export and Import WLAN Profiles on Windows 10?
You can export any saved WLAN profile settings along with the Wi-Fi network security key to an XML file and then import it to another computer.
To export a WLAN profile, this command is used:
netsh wlan export profile name=”Xiaomi_10D1″ key=clear folder=C:\PS
Or you can export all saved wireless profiles (a separate XML file is created for each profile with a network SSID as its name):
netsh wlan export profile key=clear folder=C:\PS
Then you can copy the XML files with configured wireless profiles to another Windows device (or deploy files using GPO) and import saved WLAN profiles for all computer users using the command below:
netsh wlan add profile filename=” “C:\PS\home-Xiaomi_10D1.xml” user=all
Or you can import a saved Wi-Fi network to the current user only:
netsh wlan add profile filename=” “C:\PS\home-Xiaomi_10D1.xml” user=current
Now, if any of the imported Wi-Fi networks is within range of the computer’s wireless adapter, Windows will automatically connect to it.
How to Forger a Saved Wi-Fi Network on Windows 10?
You can delete a saved Wi-Fi network with its password in Windows settings. Open Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi -> Manage known networks.
You will see the list of saved wireless profiles of the networks used earlier. Select the SSID of the network you want to delete and click Forget.
You can also remove (forget) a saved Wi-Fi network from the command prompt using the netsh . Specify the name of the WLAN profile you want to remove, for example:
netsh wlan delete profile name=”Rt2253”
If you want to delete all saved Wi-Fi networs at once, run the following command:
In this Windows 10 tutorial, we will let you know how to see saved WiFi passwords on a Windows 10 PC. It was relatively easier on Windows 7 to see WiFi passwords, but on Windows 10 you need to follow a few easy steps.
Step by Step Tutorial:
- Right Click on the WiFi icon in Taskbar. Click on “Open Networking and Sharing center”
2) Now, once Networking and Sharing Center opens, you would be able to see the WiFi network you are currently connected to. Now click on it.
3) Now, you will see a pop-out small screen opening. Click on Wireless properties.
4) A new pop-out screen will open. Switch to “Security” tab. Check the box “Show characters” and you should be able to see the password.
In case you want to see WiFi password for any of the networks you have ever connected to you can use these steps.
- Right click on Windows icon on start screen. Open command prompt / Powershell as an administrator. Now type the following command: netsh wlan show profile
- This command will list all Wi-Fi profiles that you’ve ever connected to.
- Now for revealing the password of a specific network, use the command “netsh wlan show profile “NETWORK NAME” key=clear”. Substitute “NETWORK NAME” with the Wi-Fi network you want to see password of
- You’ll be able to see Wi-Fi password in ‘key content,’ under security settings.
Are you connected to Wi-Fi on one device, but need the password to log in on another one? Here’s how to find Wi-Fi passwords in Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
Need a Wi-Fi password? Maybe you’re visiting a friend’s house, but they’re busy. Or your laptop is connected, but your phone is not. There are ways to wirelessly share passwords between devices, but if that’s not an option, here’s how to grab the Wi-Fi password from your already-connected devices.
How to See Wi-Fi Password in Windows
Windows makes this easy, as long as you’re currently connected to the network in question. Open the Start menu and search for Network Status, then click the Change Adapter Options button that appears in the settings menu. (If you’re on Windows 7, open the Control Panel and head to Network and Internet > Network Connections.)
Right-click on your computer’s Wi-Fi adapter in the list, choose Status > Wireless Properties. Under the Security tab, you should see a password box with dots in it—click the Show Characters box to see the password appear in plain text.
If you’re trying to view the password for a network you aren’t currently connected to, things are a tad more complicated. You can download a third-party app like Magical JellyBean WiFi Password Revealer, which will show you the passwords of all saved networks.
If you prefer not to install extra software, you can find the password from the Windows Command Prompt. Open the Start Menu, search for Command Prompt, right-click the app and select Run As Administrator. Then run the following command to see a list of saved Wi-Fi networks:
netsh wlan show profile
Pick the network you want from the list, then run:
netsh wlan show profile MyNetwork key=clear
(Replace MyNetwork with the name of the network you found earlier.) You’ll be presented with some info about the network, including the “Key Content,” or password.
How to See a Wi-Fi Password in macOS
Apple’s macOS stores Wi-Fi passwords in its keychain, which you can view by opening the Keychain Access app. Press Command + Space to open Spotlight, search for “keychain access,” and open the app. Then, use the search bar in the Keychain Access app to search for the name of any Wi-Fi network you’ve connected to in the past.
When you see the network in the list, double-click on it to see its password entry. You’ll need to check the Show Password box along the bottom to see the password in plain text.
How to See a Wi-Fi Password on iPhone
Viewing Wi-Fi passwords on an iPhone is not a simple affair, since Apple never built the feature into iOS. If you sync your iPhone’s Wi-Fi passwords with your iCloud Keychain, you should be able to use the Mac instructions above to see the password on your computer. This method will work on Mac, even if you have never connected to that network with the device. Otherwise, the Wi-Fi share feature for the iPhone is your only option, though this won’t show the password in plain text.
Jailbreaking has become far less common in recent years. Only the most dedicated users now go through the process to hack their iOS device, but if you are jailbroken, head to Cydia (an App Store for jailbroken phones) and search for WiFi Passwords. This tool will reveal those passwords for you, though it may or may not work depending on the version of your jailbroken software—these things are always in flux. If you can’t get it working, there are a number of other similar apps in Cydia that are worth trying out.
How to See Wi-Fi Password on Android
If you’re running Android 10 or higher, this is easily accessible under Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi. Just select the network in question. (If you aren’t currently connected, you’ll need to tap Saved Networks to see other networks you’ve connected to in the past.) Then, tap the Share button, and the network’s password will appear below the QR code.
Without Android 10, you can’t see a Wi-Fi network’s password unless your phone is rooted. If yours is, a root-friendly file explorer like Solid Explorer can help you find the password. Just navigate to /data/misc/wifi and open the wpa_supplicant.conf file.
Within that document, you should be able to find the network’s name along with its password. Note that the location of that file and the effectiveness of this method may vary from device to device, since some may encrypt the passwords within wpa_supplicant.conf.
Check the Router’s Admin Page
If you’ve read this far and you’re still without a password, you have one other (slightly shady) option: check the Wi-Fi router’s administrative tools. If you view the Wi-Fi network’s information on your device—for example, clicking the “i” next to the Wi-Fi name on iOS’ settings—you’ll be able to see the router’s IP address, usually something like 192.168.0.1.
Type that number into the address bar of your browser, and use a site like routerpasswords.com to see if the default username and password for that model router gains you access to the settings. (If you don’t know the model number, it may be on the login page, or you can find it printed on the router itself.) Find the Wi-Fi section of the settings, and you might be able to view the network’s password.
If the network’s owner has changed the administrative password to their router—which everyone should do for security reasons—you won’t be able to do this, and if you don’t have their permission, it’s generally not a good idea to go rooting around someone else’s router settings. (If you’re on your own network, or a close family member’s, then you’re probably fine.) Just don’t break anything while you’re in there.
If you’ve forgotten the password for connecting to your Wi-Fi network, you can find it on any Windows 10 devices that have previously connected to that wireless network. By default, Windows 10 saves passwords (keys) of all Wi-FI networks to which the device has ever been connected. In this article, we will show you how to view passwords for saved Wi-FI networks on Windows 10.
The current password of the Wi-Fi network to which your Windows device is currently connected can be viewed from the graphical interface of the Control Panel.
- Open “Settings” > “Network and Internet” > “Status” > “View network adapters and change connection settings”;
Hint. You can open the Network Connections Control Panel dialog by clicking Win+R > ncpa.cpl > Enter;
This method is quite simple, but it allows you to see only the password for the current Wi-Fi network.
You can list passwords for all saved wireless Wi-Fi networks using the command prompt.
- Run Command Prompt (cmd.exe) or PowerShell console as an administrator;
- Run the command:
You will see a list of all known Wi-Fi networks. They are listed in the User Profiles section. To display the connection key for a specific Wi-Fi network, copy its name and run the command:
Hint. If the name of the Wi-FI profile contains spaces, it must be enclosed in quotes.
Using PowerShell, you can display only a list of SSIDs and keys:
Hint. Wi-Fi profiles are stored in XML files located in the directory C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Profiles\Interfaces\.
Thus, in Windows 10, you can see the passwords for all saved Wi-Fi networks to which your device has previously connected.
If you own a laptop, tablet, smartphone, or even a desktop computer , chances are you connect to the internet via Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi frees you up to move around while using your device, instead of being tethered in place with an ethernet cable. Plus, if you allow your device to save the Wi-Fi password of the network you regularly use, you can be online at all times since you’ll be automatically connected.
If you’re running Windows 10 and don’t know or remember your Wi-Fi password, but need it to connect another device or computer to the same network, it’s easy to find that Wi-Fi password within your PC.
By following a few simple steps, you can find the Wi-Fi passwords stored on your Windows 10 computer. Here’s how to do it.
How to find your stored Wi-Fi passwords on a Windows 10 computer
1. Using a PC that regularly connects to the Wi-Fi network you’re attempting to locate the password for, select the Start button in the lower left corner of your screen.
2. Click “Settings,” which looks like a small gear.
3. From the “Windows Settings” menu, click on the “Network & Internet” option.
4. In the “Network & Internet” menu, click the “Status” option on the left side of your screen.
5. Scroll down until you see the “Network & Sharing Center” option and click it. A new pop-up window will launch.
6. In the “Network & Sharing Center,” select the Wi-Fi network you’re trying to locate the password for. This will be located next to the “Connections” menu.
7. Under “Wi-Fi Status,” click “Wireless Properties.”
8. In the “Wireless Properties” menu, click the “Security” tab.
9. Click the small box next to “Show characters.” The password for your selected Wi-Fi network will then be displayed.

Something New
Forgetting Wi-Fi passwords can be a real pain, but Windows 11 lets users easily find the passwords for all saved Wi-Fi networks on the computer.
Forgetting Wi-Fi passwords can be a real pain, but fortunately, Windows 11 offers an easy way to find the passwords for all saved Wi-Fi networks on the computer. Released in October 2021 for all compatible PCs, Windows 11 brings a whole host of incremental changes over its predecessor, including Android app integration, better virtual desktop support for enhanced multitasking, official widget support, and more. The new OS is currently rolling out as a free update for Windows 10 users on supported devices.
Windows 11 also carries over most of the existing Windows 10 features, including the ability to find the passwords of all Wi-Fi networks the PC connected to in the past. There are two ways to find out Wi-Fi passwords on a Windows 11 computer, and both methods work for private networks, public Wi-Fi, and mobile hotspots. However, while one of the methods only applies to the current Wi-Fi connection, the other one can be used to find passwords for all Wi-Fi networks saved on the PC. The methods are similar on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
As explained by Microsoft, the easiest way to find the Wi-Fi password for an active connection in Windows 11 is through Network Settings. To get to Network Settings, open the Control Panel and click on ‘Network and Sharing Center.’ If the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ option is not visible, change the ‘View’ to ‘Small Icons’ using the ‘View by’ drop-drown menu at the top-right corner of the Control Panel window, or go to ‘Network and Internet’ and then select ‘View network status and tasks’ while in ‘Category’ view. Next, click on ‘Change adapter settings’ in the left sidebar and then double-click on the target Wi-Fi adapter to open the Wi-Fi Status window for that connection. Next, on the Wi-Fi Status window, click on the ‘Wireless Properties’ button, and on the next page, move to the ‘Security’ tab. Finally, click on the ‘Show Characters’ checkbox to see the password (Network security key) for the active Wi-Fi network.
Find All Saved Wi-Fi Passwords Using Command Prompt
While the method mentioned above works perfectly for the active Wi-Fi connection, it doesn’t let users see the passwords for all Wi-Fi networks that the PC ever connected to. For that, users have to resort to the command line interface. To do that, firstly, open the Command Prompt in Admin mode by searching for ‘cmd’ in the Search Bar and then clicking on ‘Run as administrator.’ Next, type in netsh wlan show profile and hit Enter. This command will list all the Wi-Fi networks saved on that PC.
Now select the network whose password is needed, and then type the following command and hit Enter: netsh wlan show profile name=”xyz” key=clear . The password can now be seen under ‘Key Content.’ Do note that “xyz” needs to be replaced with the network’s name whose password the user is looking for. So if the network name is “OneWiFi,” the command should be netsh wlan show profile name=”OneWiFi” key=clear . This should help the user find the forgotten password for “OneWiFi” on their Windows 11 PC.
Passwords keep our accounts and networks secured. But, with a lot of passwords to manage, it is understandable for us to forget them. Keeping a record may be prone to hacking, so you want to save your passwords in a separate device with encryption.
Windows 10 and 11 save your WiFi passwords with all the networks you connect to both in the past and present. If you need to access these wireless network authentication passwords, there are several ways for you to find and view them on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. Even if you only connected to a network router and entered the password once, you can still find and view the information on your Windows computer.
Finding & Viewing Saved WiFi Passwords on Windows 10 & 11 Computer
When connecting to a Wi-Fi home network on your Windows 11 or 10 PC, you only need to type in your password once. Windows will save and store your passwords so you can connect automatically to the same network in the future. If you want to know your WiFi password, check out the methods below.

Most computers these days use multiple Wi-Fi networks to access the internet. Although Windows stores all the Wi-Fi passwords you have ever used on your computer, sometimes you need those passwords to connect to other devices. In such a situation, recovering the right password from Windows can be tricky, but necessary. In this tutorial, we will describe in simple steps how to view saved Wi-Fi passwords in Windows 10 so that you can find the password of any network you have ever connected to your Windows computer.
Things to Remember
Before you start the process of finding the saved passwords of the Wi-Fi networks on your Windows computer you should keep some things in mind.
- The password that you will find in Windows will be the last active password used by Windows for accessing that Wi-Fi Network.
- Whether the password you will find is still active for that network is absolutely not guaranteed. This is especially true for Wi-Fi networks you had accessed a long time ago.
How to View Wi-Fi Passwords in Windows 10
We will share two methods for finding the Wi-Fi passwords stored on your Windows computer.
- Method 1: Find Password of Currently Active Wi-Fi Network
- Method 2: Find Passwords of All the Wi-Fi Networks Ever Used
Both of these methods are simple to execute, but you must execute the steps exactly as they have been mentioned.
Method 1: Find Password for Currently Active Wi-Fi Network
If you want to find the password of the Wi-Fi network your computer is currently connected to, then follow the steps given below.
- Right-click the ‘Wi-Fi connection icon’ on the Windows task bar and choose ‘Open Network & Internet settings’ from the options.
- In the Status window, locate and click the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ on the bottom of the page.
- In the Network and Sharing Center window, click on the ‘Change adapter settings’ link.
- Locate and right-click the currently active Wi-Fi network icon and choose ‘Status’ from the displayed options.
- In the Wi-Fi Status window, choose ‘Wireless Properties’ button.
- In the Wireless Network Properties window, click the ‘Show characters’ checkbox and you will be able to view the password for the chosen Wi-Fi network in the ‘Network security key’ field.
- Now you can use this password on any other Wi-Fi enabled device and connect it to this Wi-Fi network.
Method 2: Find Passwords of All the Wi-Fi Networks Ever Used
If you want to find the password for a Wi-Fi network which you used on your Windows computer in the past, then you need to follow the steps given below.
- Type ‘cmd’ in the search box and right-click ‘Command Prompt’ in the search results, then choose ‘Run as administrator’ option.
Note: If you have any problem in running Command Prompt in Windows 10, then visit this link to know how to open command prompt as administrator. - Type or copy-paste ‘netsh wlan show profile’ command and press ‘Enter’. Now, you can see the list of all the Wi-Fi networks you have ever accessed from this Windows computer.
- There may be some similar sounding names in the list of Wi-Fi networks. Therefore, you must know the exact name of the Wi-Fi network whose password you want to recover. Note down that Wi-Fi network name and proceed to the next step.
- Type or copy-paste ‘netsh wlan show profile = NETWORK key=clear’ command. Now, replace ‘NETWORK’ with the network name you noted down in the Step 3. Then, press ‘Enter’.
- Now you can view all the details related to your specified Wi-Fi network. Under the ‘Security settings’ section, locate ‘Key Content’. The value in front of the Key Content is the ‘password’ of your chosen Wi-Fi network.
- You can use the same process for all the Wi-Fi networks whose passwords you want to recover. After you know the password of your preferred Wi-Fi network you can use that password to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network using any Wi-Fi enabled device.

Password of the WiFi in which we are connected
If we want to find the password of the WiFi network to which we are connected at that moment, we can do it in a simple way on our computer with Windows 10. The first thing we have to do in this case is to right click with the mouse on the icon of the WiFi that is in the taskbar on the computer. This leads us to the configuration of the connections. There we are placed in the State section, where we have to look for the option called Change adapter options. Then we click on it. We are taken to a Control Panel window, in which we see the adapters that the network card has. We right click on the adapter that is active at that moment and enter Status.
Then a new window opens where we have data on the status of said adapter. Click on the Wireless Properties tab, located at the top. In this case, the first thing we have to do is open a Command Prompt window as administrator. To do this, we can use the Windows + X key combination. And then we just have to choose the Command Prompt (Administrator) option. When this window opens on the computer screen, we just have to enter the following command in it: netsh wlan show profiles and then press Enter. This command will be executed, which will give us access to the passwords.
We will see a list, where we have to look for said WiFi network in question whose password we are interested in recovering in this case. If you want to search for a specific network, we can use another command for it in this case, which is the following: netsh wlan show profile name = name_detu_WiFi key = clear where we have to put the name of the network in question where we have indicated in the screen. It will give us access to its data then, so that we can see this key and we can copy or save it.

Once you connect all of your devices to your Wi-Fi router at home, you’ll never need that long, complicated Wi-Fi password ever again, right?
Unfortunately, life isn’t that easy. If you need to reset the network settings on your phone or tablet, or have a friend or family member who needs to check their email real quick, you’re going to need to remember that long, complicated password.
If you don’t have it written down anywhere, there’s a way you can find out what it is on your Windows PC, as long as you’re still connected to the Wi-Fi hotspot. Just note that this trick only works if you are a local admin on your computer. If not, you’ll need to enter the admin username and password.
- Go to your network adapter settings. (This can be done by accessing Network Connections through the Control Panel, by using the Run menu (pressing Win+R on your keyboard and typing in “ncpa.cpl”), or by simply typing in “ncpa.cpl” in the Start menu.)
- Once the Network Connections window pops up, find your wireless network, right-click on it, and select “Status” from the menu.
- In the Wi-Fi Status window, tap on “Wireless Properties.”
- Go to the Security tab, and check the box next to “Show characters.”
- Your password will appear in the text box next to “Network security key.”
And with the password in-hand, you can give it away to a friend or family member, use it on your other devices, or even just jot it down somewhere so you can quickly access it later without having to go through this process again.
