How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Adobe has announced its latest addition to Adobe Scan, a service can that can convert the written paper documents into searchable PDFs. Other than big-sized documents, Adobe Scan can now scan business cards and turn them into mobile contacts on iOS and Android.

Now when someone gives you a business card, you can simply instantly extract the contact details given on the card and store in the mobile. And all this happens even without typing it line by line. Moreover, if you are an Adobe Document Cloud subscriber, all the data will save in its cloud too.

Then you can politely hand the card back. No need to accumulate and fill your wallet/bag/office drawers with the stack of business cards during a conference or a visiting a trade show. What a relief!

Though this feature is already available in Google Lens and Microsoft’s Office, Adobe is leveraging its text recognition superpower that makes it far sharper scanner app.

Adobe Scan Intelligent Technology

The design company, Adobe is definitely progressing towards replacing the paper culture with the digital processes. Adobe Scan has been downloaded 10 million times since its launch in March 2017.

By incorporating the super-smart artificial intelligence Adobe Sensei technology in Adobe Scan, the app can identify the card borders and rotate skewed perspectives, balance dim& dark lighting and apply optical character recognition (OCR) to extract the text.

During low lighting, Adobe’s intelligent technology commands Adobe Scan camera to switch on the flash exactly at the moment of click. It can even easily spot dark shadows formed by phone or the holder’s finger or thumb at the card’s edge. The app crops out all dark lights while scanning the contact details, writes Lisa Croft, the author at Adobe blog.

Following this, the app user has to just click on “Save Contact” option to automatically add the person’s contact details such as name, phone number and email address. Additionally, Adobe Scan will also save an image of the business card to the contacts. So that’s a backup plan if the Adobe scanner app misses out any information! The app’s performance is “unparalleled”, boasts Akhil Chugh, Product Manager at Adobe.

“Adobe Scan taps the heterogeneous compute capabilities of both Android and iOS devices to remove unwanted objects from the scan, like fingers, and uses heuristics models to identify fields like email addresses with 99 percent accuracy. In the rare instances it doesn’t get a name or number right, it offers machine learning-powered suggestions,” explained VentureBeat.

Types of Business Cards

There are three types of business cards from the computing perspective. First one is the most common – white background and black text. Adobe Scan could easily get trained on this category.

The next type of business card is white or gray text printed on a black background and the final one is colored text with a colored background. To operate the scanner on these kinds of business cards, Adobe applied AI to invert the colors of the components, that is, white background with black text.

The equivalent challenge was thrust from white cards lying on the white background. “It took a couple of months to solve,” Chugh said.

Presently Adobe Scan can scan business cards in English only. The design company will bring support for other languages very soon.

Adobe also introduced other enhanced features in other Adobe Document Cloud products including Adobe Sign and PDF integration with Microsoft Office 365.

Networking can take your business places.

That said, as your network grows, the total number of contacts continue to grow on your iPhone’s contact app or any other device, which is probably great since you are expanding your horizons by networking.

However, all this networking might go in vain if you aren’t organizing and managing your contacts properly.

But organizing your iPhone contact app isn’t as easy as it may sound. It must be flooded with incorrect and outdated contact numbers as well. Today we will help you tackle this problem with some tips and one useful Address Book manager app.

Read on to find out!

1. Conflate Your iPhone’s Contact App With CircleBack, An Address Book Manager

For starters, if you want to use your iPhone’s contact app to its potential best, then you must consider automating your contact organizing process.

This is where CircleBack, an automated address book manager, comes into play.

CircleBack is poised to become the best address book manager that does plenty of things for you including updating your contacts list intelligently, discovering new contacts in your Google, Microsoft, and Exchange inboxes, cleaning up duplicate contacts.

Apart from this, it also works perfectly as a business card scanning app which automatically exports business card to CRM.

Taking the management of your address book seriously can actually save you a lot of time and hassle. In fact, if you want to navigate through your contacts list with ease, without getting inflicted by the irrelevant, outdated clutter, then you have got to pay attention to your address book management.

So, don’t delegate anymore and automate the process of managing your phone address book using CircleBack.

2. Don’t Forget To Add Full Contact Details

“Hey Siri, call my mother.”

You can give this simple command and literally reach any person.

But there’s a catch: you need to fill out the full contact details in order to do that. Regular, generic information like a person’s name, email, and phone number won’t cut it out for you. When you enter details like people’s nicknames and the relationship you have with them, it makes Siri more powerful. This, in turn, makes your own task considerably easier.

Adding your contact’s address might also come in handy later on. For one, it saves you the trouble of searching for your contact’s distance in your Maps app. Secondly, you won’t have to keep asking people their address every time you are to visit them.

3. Categorize Your Contacts

Your iPhone’s contact app allows you to organize your contact into groups to avoid the clutter and the ensuing confusion.

Say, for instance, you have a whole list of entrepreneurs you need to text, but it is an arduous task to remember each one of their names. However, if you categorize people in different groups, this problem may never arise again. Grouping people can help you send your messages through without excluding anyone important in your contact list.

You can always manage your grouped contacts via the Contacts app on the Mac or in the iCloud.

4. Use A Business Card Scanning App

While you most certainly are capable of entering each and every contact detail manually, it still leaves you vulnerable to mistakes.

For instance, while you are attending an important entrepreneurial conference, the chances are that you will be flooded with business cards left, right and center. The best way to tackle this is by using a prominent business card scanning app like ScanBizCards.

ScanBizCards will not only scan the business cards you get but also export them directly into Salesforce. Apart from helping in entering accurate contact information, this business card scanning app also allows users to enter contact information in bulk.

Conclusion

There are so many major things your iPhone’s Contact App can do. You just need to follow the aforementioned points to make the most out of it. All these tips along with an automated address book manager can do wonders for you and save you a lot of unwarranted hassle.

Ever feel like you’re scrolling through your iPhone endlessly to find the one contact you need? Contact bloat is a real issue: as the years go by, new contacts get added, numbers are changed and some services can even create duplicate contacts. Thankfully, cleaning up the contact clutter can be easy, if you follow a few simple steps.

Apple is known for its user-friendly stance on privacy, but that doesn’t mean using an iPhone is completely secure. Tap or click here to see how your iPhone is secretly tracking your every move.

From staying on top of synced accounts to deleting unwanted contacts to merging duplicate contacts and more, with these four simple steps even the most bloated, disorganized contacts list can be reigned in.

1. Turn off unnecessary account syncing

When you connect accounts like iCloud, email, or Microsoft Exchange to your iPhone, these services will automatically download information attached to these accounts.

For example, a connected Gmail account will automatically download your Gmail contacts and add them to your contact list. If you don’t store important contacts on any third-party accounts, it’s important to turn off syncing for those accounts or at least disable the syncing of contacts.

Tech news that matters to you, daily

Privacy, security, the latest trends and the info you need to live your best digital life.

Configuring information that is synced from different accounts is thankfully easy: simply open the Settings app and navigate to Passwords & Accounts. From here, all your connected accounts will be listed, and by tapping on an account you will be able to toggle sync on and off for a variety of data, including mail, contacts, calendars, and notes.

2. Delete unwanted contacts manually

As people and services come in and out of your life, you may find you’d like to remove specific contacts from your iPhone altogether. Deleting contacts manually only takes a few taps:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap the Contacts tab.
  2. Select the contact you’d like to delete.
  3. Tap Edit at the top-right of the screen.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the contact and select Delete Contact.

If the contact you happen to delete was synced from another service, the contact will be removed from both your iPhone and the service.

3. Merge duplicate contacts

It’s easy to forget what contacts you have stored where, so duplicate contacts will likely pop up over time, especially if you sync contacts with another account. But deleting duplicates individually is tedious, and what if you’d like to keep some synced contacts, but not all, from a third-party account?

The solution to all these problems is the free app Cleanup Duplicate Contacts!

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Cleanup Duplicate Contacts works by scanning your contacts for either perfect or partial matches. Then, users can choose to remove or merge any or all of the duplicate contacts discovered.

The app even allows you to customize your scan, choosing exactly what level of similarity you’re looking for in your contacts. While the app is free, upgrading to the premium version will allow you to save scan results for later viewing.

Here are some features you get with the app:

  • Instant Cleanup of Duplicate Contacts
  • Choose the merge-level you need
  • Very fast – 5000 contacts centralized in about 45 seconds
  • Detailed reports of scanned results
  • Automatic merging of duplicate contact
  • Manages multiple contact sources like Gmail and iCloud
  • Creates a backup of your address book before cleaning
  • Lets you easily restore backups or a part of a backup

4. Centralize contacts with an address book manager

The above steps work to keep your iPhone’s contact list as clutter-free as possible, but there are many apps that replace Apple’s Contact’s app altogether. Address book managers, like Contacts+ or CircleBack, support third-party syncing, build in contact deduplication features and work across devices and platforms.

CircleBack updates your contacts intelligently, finds new contacts in your Google, Microsoft, and Exchange inboxes, cleans up duplicates, and allows you to scan business cards and save them as contacts. Packed with everything you need to stay organized while building and maintaining productive professional relationships, CircleBack makes it easier than ever to clean up your contacts.

Best of all, the most popular apps are free to download. An address book manager is your one-stop-shop for all your needs, and with only a simple download and login, your contacts will be available anywhere at the touch of a button.

Address book managers also often offer more advanced organization features, like scanning business cards, custom contacts grouping, automatic contact enrichment, spam block, and contact discovery.

Contacts+ is a cloud-based address book designed to take the hassle out of contact management. Truly multi-platform, Contacts+ syncs your contacts across your devices (including iOS, Mac, PC, & other mobile devices) as well as across various accounts you may store contacts in (such as Gmail, Exchange, Office365, and Twitter).

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Carrying and/or keeping track of an ever-growing horde of business cards can be frustrating. Several iPhone application developers have recognized the iPhone’s capability to handle our business card needs and have created apps that scan, store and integrate business card data with our Contacts/Address Book. Business Card Reader is one such application. We’ve done a comparison of the three best options currently available, but here’s a closer look at Business Card Reader.

Business Card Reader offers its users the ability to take a photo of a business card then, using its data recognition technology, enters the card’s contact information into the appropriate fields, which can be verified and corrected, then enters the contact into the iPhone’s address book. Business Card Reader recognizes English, French, German and Spanish business cards and contains a built-in browser, enabling users to make automated LinkedIn searches and profile views of scanned contacts, without leaving the app.

Business Card Reader’s menu interface is visually pleasing and separates itself from other, similar apps. It has a leather aesthetic and its elegant display and options are neatly tabbed, centered and color-coded. From the main menu, users can take a photo, select an image from their Camera Roll/Photo Library, view stored cards in Card Holder and read the app’s FAQ/Support:

When taking photos, Business Card Reader contains a built-in stabilization feature. While taking a picture, pressing anywhere on the screen turns the white, on-screen image edges red. When the camera is stabilized, the red edge indicators turn green and the picture is taken:

After your photo is taken, Business Card Reader scans the image pretty quickly, compared to similar apps, using a very cool highlighted line that moves the length of the image. Once scanning is done, the results are displayed within an editable New Contact screen. Users can also view scanning results in a text only format:

I scanned a total of three business cards and Business Card Reader’s data recognition technology impressively recognized all the data displayed on the cards, save for one data field on one card.

Once your image is scanned, you can enter it into contacts. Business Card Reader also contains a LinledIn Lookup feature, containing a built-in browser which allows users to see if that particular contact has a LinkedIn account. Users can view the contact’s Full Profile and save the link for future reference/purposes.

Users can also view their stored business cards via the Card Holder option on Business Card Reader’s main screen. The app displays your stored cards and selecting a card gives the user the option to save the image to their Camera Roll, view and edit contact information and delete the card:

All said, I found Business Card Reader to be a very reliable, solid business card reader. At $5.99, it’s well worth its price and is by far, the best business card reader I’ve used. I highly recommend this app to those looking for a reliable, elegant business card reader.

If you’re one of the many people who employs various methods to manage contacts, eventually, it can become necessary to merge them.

For example, Excel is a simple, minimalistic way to organize personal contacts, but if you’re a Apple product user, you’ve inevitably racked up a whole lot of iPhone contacts. Fortunately, you can combine all of your contacts into one spreadsheet by simply syncing your contacts to iCloud, and then exporting them to Excel.

Here are the steps you’ll need to take to export your iPhone contacts to Excel, starting with enabling iCloud syncing.

Adding and Managing Contacts

Lesson 7: Adding and Managing Contacts

Adding and managing contacts

The iPhone allows you to save phone numbers and contact information for the people you know. You can use saved contact information to quickly place a phone call, send an email, and more. The iPhone allows you to create as many contacts as you need so you’ll always have important contact information with you.

If someone helped set up your iPhone, he or she may have imported the contacts from your old phone to your iPhone. If you purchased your iPhone online, you can visit your wireless provider and ask someone to transfer your contacts.

To add a contact:

The iPhone gives you different ways to save contact information from the Phone app:

Tap Contacts, then tap the + button in the top-right corner.

Adding contact information

When creating a contact, you should (at the very least) enter a first and last name and a phone number. However, you can also enter other information, like an email address, street address, and birthday.

You can add contact information when first creating a contact or by opening an existing contact and tapping Edit.

Navigating contacts

If you have several people saved to your contacts list, it can be difficult to find a contact quickly. Fortunately, there are two easy ways to navigate your contacts:

Search: You can quickly search all of your contacts by using the Search bar at the top of the contacts list. Just tap the Search bar and type. Any contacts matching your search will appear.

To set the My Info card:

If you’d like Siri to access your personal contact information, you’ll need to set the My Info card. This will allow Siri to answer more complex requests, such as Give me directions home or Remind me about my meeting when I get to work.

Before you can set the My Info card, you will need to create a contact with your own name and information.

  1. Tap the Settings icon on the Home Screen.
  2. Scroll down and tap Contacts.

To add relationship labels:

If you’d like Siri to understand your relationships to different contacts (for example, that Frank is your brother and that Susan is your mother), you can add relationship labels.

To add a relationship, press and hold the Home button to access Siri, then explain the contact relationship.

After adding a relationship, Siri can respond to more personal requests, such as Call my husband or Send mom a text message.

You can also set a relationship label for a contact manually. When viewing the contact, tap Edit, then scroll down and select add related name.

If you have saved too many contacts on your iPhone, you may want to group the messy contacts for better search and management. It will be easier for you to search particular contacts or delete contacts in a group. However, iOS built-in contact app doesn’t support to create new contacts group with itself. Therefore, speaking of creating contact groups on iphone, there are several choice provided for you. In this post, we will show you how to group contacts on iPhone without limits. There are many reasons why someone may need to edit their iPhone’s contact list; there may be contacts you don’t need anymore, you may be looking to transfer to a new device, or maybe you simply need to do a little housekeeping. Removing contacts frees up a bit of storage space on your device, leaving more room for pictures and apps. While it’s common to add new contacts, removing them is usually a less frequent task. Read more to learn how to permanently delete contacts on your iPhone.

How to Permanently Delete Contacts on Your iPhone

When you delete a contact, it permanently removes them from your device. To delete a single contact on your iPhone, you’ll need to open the Contacts app and select the name you’d like to delete. After the contact’s information opens, tap Edit. Scroll all the way to the bottom of that contact’s information and select “Delete Contact.” This option will appear in red text, and you’ll need to tap it again to confirm.

Another thing to note is that if you delete a contact from your email account, you will also permanently delete that contact from all devices that are signed into that account.

    How to Delete Multiple Contacts

It is possible to remove multiple contacts at once, but it requires the use of a computer. Apple’s iCloud provides back up storage for everything on your device, even photos and apps, so if you’re looking to clean up a contact list and you’d prefer not to delete them one by one, you’ll need to access iCloud from a computer.

First, visit iCloud.com and log in with your Apple ID and password. On the main page, select Contacts; conveniently, the apps in iCloud mirror those on your phone, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. To delete multiple contacts on your iPhone, highlight the contacts you’d like to delete by continually holding the Control key on your keyboard. As long as the Control button is held, you can select any number of contacts you like. When you’re ready to delete them, click on the Settings icon in the bottom left of the screen and select Delete. You’ll need to confirm your choice by clicking Delete a second time, but doing this will remove multiple contacts from every device that uses your Apple ID.

    How to Manage Duplicate Contacts

Your iPhone can port in contacts from other accounts that are used on your device, such as email. However, the technology is not flawless, and there are occasional syncing issues that may result in duplicates in your contact list. If you have a few repeats in your contact list, you might choose to scroll through and delete them individually.

However, if you have a lengthy contact list, endlessly scrolling and deleting might not be for you. To manage the duplicate contacts that appear, take the following steps:

    • Open your iPhone’s Contacts app and select Groups in the upper left corner.
    • Check only one contact source such as All iCloud.
    • Open the Settings app and scroll down to Contacts. Turn syncing off for every source that you’ve connected to your Contacts account, except for one source.

When you turn syncing off for a source, you will be asked if you want to delete the contacts off your device. In this instance, select yes, since this won’t delete the contacts at the source, but will remove them from your iPhone to eliminate duplicates.

How to Delete All Contacts from Your iPhone

If you ever need to delete all the contacts on your iPhone at once, there are a few simple steps that you can take. Before you begin, you’ll need to make sure that your contact list is synced to iCloud, that way they’re backed up, in case you ever need to retrieve them. After that, open the Settings app on your phone and tap the tab at the top that has your name, profile picture, and the words “Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store.”

Select the iCloud tab, which will display all the information that is stored in the cloud from your device. Beside the word Contacts, there will be a toggle switch that is set to “on” with green bar, and a white circle. Tap that white circle to toggle that switch “off.” This will trigger a pop-up window that will ask you if you’d like to keep or delete the synced contacts on your phone. If your goal is to wipe your contact list clean, select “Delete from My iPhone.”

iOS allows you to add photos to your contacts so that you can easily recognize them in your Contacts list. These photos can also be viewed in Favorites, Messages, as well as on the incoming call screen.

If you want to add a photo to your contact, you can either do it from the Photos app or from Contacts. This process can be daunting because you have to add photos to each of your contacts individually, which can take a lot of time if you have many contacts to cover. Fortunately, a third-party app called Sync.ME can take care of this.

With just the single tap of a button, Sync.ME will automagically update the photos of your contacts with their picture from Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. This saves you a lot of time, rather than adding photos individually to each of your contacts.

Here’s how you can use the app to instantly add photos to most of your iPhone contacts. We’ll also show you how to add individual pictures via the Contacts app.

Setting your personal info, address, and contact information on an iPhone is important if you want to be able to do things like get directions home or to another location from home, appropriate auto-fill details, the ability to easily share your address and contact details with other people, and much more.

Perhaps it’s not surprising then that a common question is “how do I change my personal information on iPhone?“, and that’s what we’re going to demonstrate here. Yes, most iPhone users have “My Info” setup properly on their devices, but many others don’t, or some just may want to change their info or set a different contact card as their details.

First, Have a Self Identifying “My Info” Contact Card

In order to accurately set “My Info” to your personal name, address, phone number, and other contact info, you’ll need to be sure you have created a contact card identity for yourself. This would be like creating any other contact in the “Contacts” app, and if you haven’t done that yet, here’s how you can make a card for yourself:

    1. Open the “Contacts” app, if you see your name and details at the top under “My Card” than you don’t need to create a new contact (though you can tap on it to double-check that your My Card information is accurate), otherwise tap the + plus button in the corner
    2. Add your name, address, email, phone number, and other useful information as usual and tap “Done” to complete

You can also edit an existing Contact card for yourself by tapping on your name in Contacts app, then tapping “Edit” and adding in the pertinent details like address for home.

How to Set or Change “My Info” Contact Details to Yourself on iPhone

Once you have a self identifying contact card, you can easily set it for the iPhone.

    1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone, then go to “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
    2. Scroll down to the Contacts section, then tap on “My Info”

Select your personal contact card that identifies yourself and contains your contact and address information by tapping on it

Now your personal contact information is set to you on iPhone (and yes this works the same on iPad and iPod touch). This can be changed at any time, so if your contact card changes or you give the iPhone to your partner or child, it’s easy to keep everything else the same if need be and just change the contact details.

You can also change the address, name, and other information at anytime by going through the ‘Contacts’ app as described in the first part of this article.

Now your iPhone knows who you are and where you live, which is exactly what you need if you want to be able to do things like tell Siri to give you voice directions home or from home to elsewhere, or share your home address with someone else, and much more.

Apple first announced Business Chat, a new way for customers to communicate with companies, at WWDC 2017. While Business Chat did not arrive with the initial release of iOS 11, Apple pushed it out in iOS 11.3 so companies can offer customer service in a whole new way, and it works pretty much the same in iOS 12 and higher as it did back then.

Some of the companies that support Business Chat include Ameritrade, Apple, Aramark, AXA, Buddybank, Burberry, Credit Suisse, DirectTV Now, Discover, Dish, Engie, Fairmont, Four Seasons, Freshly, Harry & David, Harvey Norman, Hendrick Automotive Group, Hilton, The Home Depot, KDDI, Kimpton, La Redoute, Lithia Motors, Lowe’s, Macerich, Mall of America, Matchesfashion.com, Men’s Warehouse, Newegg, Npower, Overstock.com, Quicken Loans, Robins & Day, SnapTravel, Sprint, Swisscom, Telstra, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Wells Fargo, West Elm, 1-800-Contacts, and 1-800-Flowers.com.

    Step 1: Initiate a Chat

Business Chat aims to make it easy for users to instantly communicate with their favorites companies via Messages, and there are a few ways of initiating a chat.

If the company in question participates, you’ll know so when you see a “Message” icon attached to the company’s contact information on your iPhone. When you search for a company in Safari, Spotlight Search, Maps, or Siri, you will see this icon next to “Call,” “Directions,” “Share,” or whichever options would otherwise appear. Simply tap this icon to launch into Business Chat with this company.

Another way to launch Business Chat with a company is to tap a link from online, either at the company’s site or anywhere else it should choose to put it. Yet another way is to scan its QR code. Usually, this means the company has placed a code somewhere in its store, either online or in physical stores, on a product’s packaging, or in advertisements, which customers can scan with their iPhone to conveniently open a chat.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

You could use the built-in QR code scanner in the Camera app (there’s a shortcut in the Control Center for it), or you can use a third-party QR code scanner on your iPhone.

Step 2: Type & Send Your Message

Apple has made it clear to businesses and customers alike that customers must start each conversation in Business Chat. That means you won’t receive unexpected messages from companies, and you can take as long as you need to send that first message.

You can start a chat however you’d like. If you know your query ahead of time, simply type and send it right away. For example, if interested in the availability of a product with Apple, you can ask “Do you have AirPods in stock?” and a response with an answer will be on its way.

However, you don’t have to start a conversation with a specific question. Simply say “Hello” or “Hi,” and the chat will begin. If you’re trying to get information about a specific branch, you may have to go through some hoops afterward to get connected to that store directly, like providing your zip code or giving up your phone number.

Apple claims all of Messages’ normal functions are fair game here. That means you can send attachments if need be, such as a picture of a product or a video of an issue. Companies can do the same. GIFs are even acceptable.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

You can always leave the conversation by tapping the back arrow in the top left or by swiping right from the left side of the display, just as you would any other conversation in Messages. You’ll know which threads are Business Chat from the company’s name, as well as the certification check on each. Businesses also have a square icon instead of a circle like your other contacts.

Step 3: Hide Alerts & Delete Messages

Although users must be first to start a chat, businesses can send notifications as they see fit to your device. Luckily, you can stop receiving notifications for these alerts as you would any other message thread, or you can delete the thread entirely which will prevent future messages from coming in.

Just swipe left on the thread to reveal these two options. If you choose to hide alerts, you will still receive messages, you just won’t get notifications for them. If you choose to delete the thread, you won’t be able to retrieve those messages, and it sends a signal to the company that you closed the chat and that they should retire the conversation. You can also hide alerts from the info (i) button directly in the thread.

It’s easy to change where your notifications show up, limit message notifications specifically, or hide specific message chains to veil them from wandering eyes.

    • Text messages (and other notifications) that pop up on your iPhone’s screen even when it’s locked can be read by anyone within eyesight of your phone, revealing your personal communications.
    • You can configure your iPhone’s notifications settings to hide text messages and other notifications until you actively want to view them.
    • There are also ways to hide message chains and new texts coming in from specific phone numbers.
    • Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.

There are lots of reasons you might want to hide the messages that pop up on your iPhone, especially those notifications that show up when your phone is locked.

Maybe you’re planning a surprise for your partner. Maybe your workplace doesn’t like you getting personal messages. Or maybe you just don’t like the idea of strangers being able to preview your text messages when they pop up on your iPhone.

Whatever the reason you want to hide text, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and other notifications, it only takes a few seconds to do it. And if you want to hide specific text message chains or the texts from a specific sender, that’s easy enough, too.

How to hide message notifications on an iPhone

If you don’t want messages popping up on your iPhone screen, you can shut the notifications down wholesale or on a case-by-case (app-by-app, e.g) basis.

    1. Open the Settings app.

    2. Scroll down to and tap “Notifications.” This will open a long list of every app on your phone that generates notifications.

iOS 6 features tighter integration with Facebook, including adding your Facebook friends to your contacts list, not to mention adding their birthdays to your calendar. Learn how to loosen Facebook’s grip on your contacts and calendar.

Matt Elliott, a technology writer for more than a decade, is a PC tester and Mac user based in New Hampshire.

Perhaps I’m slow, but just I noticed that all of my Facebook friends are now littered throughout my iPhone’s contacts list. This change is a result of iOS 6’s tighter integration with Facebook, so I’ve been living with it for a few months now. (In my defense, allow me to state that for most calls, I use the Favorites list, where Facebook contacts don’t show up instead of the All Contacts list, where they do.)

    Screenshot by Matt Elliott/CNET

If you have been living with a contacts list inundated with hundreds of Facebook friends, there is an easy fix. Head to Settings and scroll down until you find Facebook. For the Facebook setting, you’ll see a section titled Allow These Apps to Use Your Account. Tap the slider to Off for Contacts. Now, head back to the All Contacts list and you’ll see your list returned to its state prior to iOS 6 — listing only the contacts you entered.

Not allowing Facebook to access your contacts also has another effect: it cleans up the calendar app by removing birthday reminders for your Facebook friends. And if you’d like to keep Facebook events from showing up on your calendar, turn the Calendar slider to Off in Settings > Facebook.

Jude Biersdorfer has helped readers navigate their digital products since 1998.

Your phone’s contacts app can be easy to treat as a simple address book. But the default versions usually included in Apple’s iOS 15 and Google’s Android 12 can be much more useful — providing specific ringtones, travel directions, birthday reminders and more — if you take the time to flesh out the entries for your favorite people. Here’s a quick guide.

    Introduce Yourself

Apple’s iOS Contacts app and Google’s free Contacts for Android include a card for your own details. It may seem odd, but the information you provide is helpful when working with your phone’s assistant app or using auto-fill fields in the Safari and Chrome browsers. For example, specifying family relationships on your personal contact card helps Siri or the Google Assistant when you say, “Call Mom,” although you’ll probably need to verbally confirm the relationship with the assistant.

To find your card on the iPhone, open the Contacts app. If you don’t see it at the top of the list, tap the + icon to set it up. Select your card and tap Edit. Tap “add related name” and choose relationship labels for family members in your contacts. In the Medical ID area, you can designate an emergency contact visible on your phone’s lock screen if you are incapacitated.

Usually, your iPhone presents no problems when you need to use it to contact someone you know. You can easily pull up your contact list and see the names and numbers of everyone who is in your life, both personally and professionally. But what if you try pulling up your contacts, and you can’t see any of the names? This experience can be thoroughly frustrating, and it does sometimes happen with Apple devices. Let’s go over what you can do about this problem if you’re running into it with your iPhone.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Why Might the Contact Names Disappear from Your iPhone?

If the names of your contacts have vanished from your iPhone, but you still see the numbers, then either a software or hardware problem could be to blame. Software trouble is more likely, though. There are a few different glitches and bugs that could lead to this situation.

Let’s run down a few fixes that you can try.

Restarting Your iPhone Might Cause Contact Names to Return

Seldom is it a bad idea to turn your iPhone off and on again if you feel like there’s a software bug happening.

If you own the iPhone X or a newer model than that, you should press and hold either of your Volume buttons at the same time as the Side button. The Slide to Power Off slider will appear. Slide it to the right, which turns off the device. Then, after a few seconds, press and hold down the Side button until you see the Apple logo come up.

If yours is an iPhone 6, 7, or 8, you will need to press and hold down the Side button until you see that same Slide to Power Off slider. Slide it to the right, turning off the device. Next, press and hold down your Side button until the Apple logo pops up on the display and the phone restarts.

If your iPhone is a generation 5 or older, then you should press and hold the Top button until you get the Slide to Power Off slider. Slide it to the right. To turn it back on, you must press and hold down the Top button until you see the Apple logo.

Once you’ve done this, check and see if the contact names are back. If you still don’t see them, move on to the next fix on this list.

Toggling Your Contacts in iCloud Can Cause Your Contact Names to Reappear

Another option would be to use iCloud to toggle your contacts off and on again. You’ll need to go to Settings, then iCloud. Turn the Contacts toggle to the off position. You will see a prompt asking you if you want to delete or keep your previously synced contacts. You can choose Delete from My iPhone. Don’t be concerned. This will not cause you to lose any contacts permanently, because they are backed up to iCloud.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Next, turn Contacts back on, and they should be restored to your device through iCloud. See if the names of the missing contacts are there beside the numbers again. If you don’t see them, keep reading.

Make an Adjustment to Your iPhone’s Contact Settings

This is another trick that might fix the issue. Go to your Contacts app. At the top of the Contacts page, tap where it says Groups. You will see two options, those being All iCloud and All on My iPhone. The option you want to take is All on My iPhone. If you haven’t chosen that one yet for your device, do so.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Have the contacts come back? If you still do not see them, try this next option.

Turn the Individual Accounts for Your iPhone Off and then On Again

If you go to Settings, you will see Accounts and Passwords as one of the options. Tap it. You must now select each of the accounts that sync with your device. That might include Outlook, iCloud, Gmail, etc. Open each one of these accounts, and then toggle the Contacts button to the Off position. Then, wait about 30 seconds, and toggle each one back to the On position.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

See if that has solved the issue. If the contact names are still not showing up, move on to the next fix.

Do a Forced Rebuild of Your iPhone Contacts

To attempt this next option, you’ll have to first open any random contact on your iPhone. Make some edits to the information that you see there. For instance, you might add a fax number or a work number. They don’t have to be real.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Next, you can restart your iPhone, as we detailed earlier in the article. When the device is powered back up, check to see if you can see the contact names now. This technique works a surprising amount of times that Apple device users try it. The addition of the new information forces the data connected to your contacts to be rebuilt.

If it worked, then you can delete the fake information that you put in for that particular contact. If it didn’t, then go on to the next fix.

Look into Third-Party Data Recovery Tools for Your iPhone

At this point, you’ll probably want to consider looking into third-party data recovery tools for the iPhone. There are a few different ones on the market that are reasonably priced, and most of the more reputable ones have some sort of money-back guarantee if they fail to solve the problem.

Seek the Help of Apple Support

If you do not want to spend any money on third-party tools, the other thing that you can do is to seek help at this stage from Apple Support. You can either reach out to them via the Apple website or by phone. Alternatively, you could take the device to an Apple Store with a Genius Bar if there is one that is near to you.

Make sure to tell the employees there all of the fixes that you tried so as to avoid any redundancies. If you have the original factory warranty on the iPhone or the AppleCare+ package, then it probably won’t cost you anything to get the issue fixed.

If everything else on your iPhone works except for the single issue of the contact names not showing up, then it still seems likely that a software problem is to blame. It is not inconceivable, though, that some obscure hardware problem is the cause of what is going on. It will probably be beyond your power to figure out what it is, though, which is why it’s best at this point to bring in some trained Apple repair people to give you an assist.

The one where David loses all his iPhone contacts, whines about it, and tells you how to avoid a similar fate.

In addition to hosting the ZDNet Government and ZDNet DIY-IT blogs, Distinguished Lecturer David Gewirtz is an author, U.S. policy advisor and computer scientist.

I can’t tell you how pissed I am. I’d say it’s all my fault, but it’s not entirely my fault. There was a series of cascading errors and failures, and the result is that three years of contacts went poof. All gone. Unrecoverable.

    Backstory

    So here’s how it happened.

My Gmail account has years of accumulated contacts. When I got my latest iPhone, these were downloaded to my device. They were stored on my iPhone in an All Google contacts group (not the iCloud group).

My phone was apparently set up so that when I added a new contact, it went into the All Google group instead of the iCloud group. I had no contacts in iCloud.

At some point, contacts added on my iPhone and in my desktop Gmail stopped syncing. I did not know this. I use Gmail on my phone every day, and I’ve had no problem with it. So I never suspected that my contacts weren’t syncing properly.

I almost never use my iPhone contacts on my desktop computer. After all, I use the iPhone contacts to text and call, and that’s all been done on the iPhone.

Over the past month or so, I’ve been updating my Apple hardware. While testing out new configurations, I noticed that my iPhone contacts never showed up in the Mac Contacts app. It didn’t bother me that much, but I decided to explore it because it was a mystery — and I don’t really like mysteries.

There was one other symptom. For some time now, my iPhone has been intermittently spitting out a CardDAV synchronization error screen. CardDAV is a data exchange protocol for exchanging address book information. I was never sure what was causing the error, or what apps I might be using that needed CardDAV.

I didn’t realize that even though my Gmail calendar and mail sync using Google’s protocol, my Gmail contacts were trying unsuccessfully to sync using CardDAV. It never dawned on me that all three elements of Gmail wouldn’t sync using the same mechanism.

So, let’s recap. First, all the contacts I added on my phone were not stored in the iCloud group, but in an All Google group. That group does not sync to iCloud, and is not backed up by the iPhone’s iCloud backup system. That group also doesn’t backup to Google any longer, because the CardDAV authentication broke at some point.

Now, here’s another gotcha. You can’t just export contacts from secondary groups on your iPhone. You can export individual vCards, but you can’t do something like a tab-delimited data dump. You also can’t transfer contacts from one iPhone Contacts group to another.

My attempt to fix it made it worse

With me so far? I had all my contacts on the iPhone, but they were locked into an All Google group that I couldn’t move or export.

This week, after digging into this situation on and off for a while, I realized that the CardDAV error was most likely related to my Gmail contacts. Figuring this out took me a while because the CardDAV error simply said there was an authentication error, but not what it was trying and failing to authenticate.

Once I figured it out, I tried to fix it. There’s an “account enabled” button in Settings for Google contacts. I turned that off, thinking that perhaps I could fix any account-related authentication errors and toggle it back on.

I never expected it to be destructive, and there were no warnings when toggling it off. Once off, the account was then listed in Settings as “Inactive.”

I went back to my Contacts and noticed that my contacts were gone. In fact, the All Google group was gone too. At this point, I wasn’t yet worried. There had been no warning that data was going to be destroyed and, besides, I’d been (I thought) backing everything up to iCloud.

But when I went back to the Accounts screen and turned my Google Contacts back on, all the local data was gone. Just gone.

In a bit of a panic, I tried figuring out how to restore those contacts. With no useful ideas, I called Apple Support. The Apple guy couldn’t seem to understand that I had had a bucket of contacts on the iPhone that had never made it to Google’s servers.

He tried getting me to put my password in on the Google contacts account screen, but that didn’t work. It turns out that to use Google contacts on the iPhone, you need to authenticate CardDAV with a special Google App Password (you generate these one-use passwords in the Google Manage Your Account screen).

I put that password into my account screen and, lo and behold, my Gmail contacts were mirrored down to the iPhone’s All Google group.

    ZDNet Recommends

And here’s where there’s not enough coffee in the world to make it better. My old desktop contacts were now in the All Google group on my iPhone. But all the contacts I had manually added into my iPhone over the past three years were gone forever.

I moved to Oregon three years ago. I can’t find a single Oregon contact in my Google contacts or my iPhone contacts. Everyone’s contact information for everyone I met in the last three years, all the services and contractors I’ve worked with — everyone I added over the last three years — is gone.

    Learn from my mistakes

So, what’s the moral of this story? Don’t be like David. Check to make sure your contacts are syncing and backing up to another source. Don’t assume backups magically work.

I’m about as anal as you can be when it comes to backup strategy, and if I can lose this valuable data, so can you. Learn from my mistake. Damn, I am so upset.

Also, I think it makes sense to recommend you keep your Gmail contacts and your iPhone contacts separate. I have thousands upon thousands of Gmail contacts because every email correspondence I do adds a new contact. I don’t need all of those on my phone in my iPhone’s Contacts app. So I’m not going to sync my Google Contacts to my iPhone. Instead, I’m just going to use iCloud contacts and sync to iCloud and my Mac.

What about you? Are you running fast and loose with your contacts? Do you have them backed up? Have you checked that they are, in fact, syncing the way they’re supposed to? Do you use iCloud contacts or Google contacts? Let us know in the comments below. And be nice and be kind. I don’t want to hear “you were stupid” criticisms a hundred times over. Waaah.

Android devices have a common misperception that contracts are kept on the SIM card. So, How Do I Know If My Contacts Are Saved On My Phone Or Sim? Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t true. While Google or another service provider syncs your contacts with your phone, they are saved on the phone itself.

Only if you manually copied your phone’s contact information to the SIM card, for example, if you lost your Smartphone and needed a backup copy of all its data, will you see it on your SIM card.

As some people believe, Google contacts are not stored on your SIM card but instead on your phone’s internal memory. Only if you manually copied your phone’s contact information to the SIM card; for instance, if you lost your phone and needed a backup copy of all its data, will you see it on your SIM card.

Android has added an app called Contacts Storage, which lets users organize their contacts more effectively by organizing them into categories such as “receive calls,” “send SMS,” or any other category they want. That way, if someone unintentionally sends one message instead of several over WhatsApp, they will know exactly which contact to remove.

It’s a fundamental question, but it’s one that many people have pondered before. When reading material from the Internet, keep in mind that you should always verify your findings! Even if it’s been said by someone else, you need to verify the credibility of your sources!

How Can I Tell Whether My Contacts Are Saved On My Mobile Or Sim?

Many individuals have this question. It’s easy to tell if your contacts are saved in Android by checking how you receive messages and phone calls. Anyone using WhatsApp can easily find the person they need to delete if they unintentionally send a single text message instead of many ones. They can scroll through their contacts list to find the individual they want to get rid of.

When You Change Your SIM Card, Do You Remove Your Contacts?

If you’re not attentive, it’s easy to lose contacts when switching SIM cards. Time and care are required when moving your old phone number’s information to a new one. The two phone numbers should also have similar contact lists to merge.

Because each contact has its own dedicated “save” location on the SIM card or in the phone’s memory space, there will be no wasted or duplicated communications between texts and calls. Due to the variations in operating systems between Android and iOS devices, this method may be slightly different for iOS devices, but it should still function similarly.

You can erase contacts on an Android or iOS device if you are syncing all of your data from your android cellphone to your new one, including old texts and calls from the SIM card of the previous phone.

All devices follow a similar deletion procedure. Begin by finding and deleting the problematic contact, which should simplify navigating through their contact list. As a second step, check to see if they’ve been saved to your phone’s contacts app, which can be discovered by going to Settings > Contacts and pressing “Storage Settings” under the communication column.

It’s okay if it says “Inbox Storage: Phone Memory,” but if it says “SIM Card Storage: Phone Memory,” you’ll need to switch the SIM card to clear it. A simple browse through the list of contacts is all that is needed to locate a contact quickly.

Remove them from your text message inbox as you usually would; however, if they’re saved in the Contacts app, which can be found in Settings > Contacts by tapping “Storage Settings” under the communication section, you’ll need to switch out your SIM card before you can delete them. This is the recommended method.

    Conclusion

This is all about the topic How Do I Know If My Contacts Are Saved On My Phone Or Sim? The number of names you can save depends on the memory size of your SIM. Approximately 200 contacts are likely to be stored on your SIM. The drawback is that all contacts are stored on the SIM and are not backed up. This implies that if your phone or SIM is lost or damaged, your contacts will be lost as well.

Most modern cellphones can only import and export contacts from the SIM card. From Android 4.0 onwards, the contact app includes a function that allows you to import your SIM card contacts to either Google contacts (which I highly suggest) or local telephone contacts.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out if my contacts are maintained on my phone or my iPhone’s SIM card?

In Settings – Contacts – Default Account, you can choose where to store your contacts. In this case, new contacts are saved on the device’s internal storage and then linked with the account selected here. If you activate and select iCloud, you’ll be able to use this feature. Contacts can be exported from the SIM card, but they cannot be kept on the SIM card.

What is the location of Apple’s contact database?

Address books are kept in the /Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ directory on Mac OS X systems. However, they are composed of an extensive delta database and saved in a separate, more extensive database. As a result, there will be no “prior” version of the file that you can review.

Is iCloud storing my phone contacts?

It doesn’t matter if you’re using an iPad, iPhone, Mac, or even a Windows pc to retrieve your iCloud contacts; they’ll all be there for you. If you’re connected to the Internet, you’ll have access to all your contacts in the cloud.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

The name of Ontario’s upcoming smartphone app for business to scan QR proof of vaccination codes will be called, ‘Verify Ontario’, according to CBC’s Mike Crawley.

The Verify Ontario smartphone app will launch on October 22, 2021, and will allow businesses and other places to scan QR codes showing proof of vaccination. Currently, almost 82% of Ontario residents aged 12 and older are now fully vaccinated.

The following higher-risk indoor settings require proof of vaccination to enter:

    • Restaurants and bars (excluding outdoor patios, as well as delivery and takeout);
    • Nightclubs (including outdoor areas of the establishment);
    • Meeting and event spaces, such as banquet halls and conference/convention centres;
    • Facilities used for sports and fitness activities and personal fitness training, such as gyms, fitness and recreational facilities with the exception of youth recreational sport;
    • Sporting events;
    • Casinos, bingo halls and gaming establishments;
    • Concerts, music festivals, theatres and cinemas;
    • Strip clubs, bathhouses and sex clubs;
    • Racing venues (e.g., horse racing).

As it stands, since September 22, Ontarians have been showing paper vaccine receipts and also screenshots of QR codes.

My native iPhone Contacts show not only my contacts with phone numbers, but also any email address I’ve ever sent an email to or received an email from. I really would rather not have email contacts save into my contact list automatically. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

In Gmail Settings, under General, check the following option:

Then go to Contacts and delete all the Other Contacts that were previously added automatically. Performing this action in Gmail will be faster than on your iPhone because you can select all those contacts with a single click. Then, just wait for the deletions to propagate to your iPhone.

I suspect you the see this behavior since upgrading to iOS 9. Go into Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars and deactivate Contacts Found in Mail. In iOS 10 it is found at Settings -> Contacts where you can deactivate Contacts Found in Apps. This option should be above the Import SIM Contacts option.

This option does not really write all the addresses into the contacts, it just sorts found mail addresses to your contacts (where you can explicitly add them to the contacts database if you want). This is not permanent unless you explicitly choose to import individual addresses, so maybe you can leave this on.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

Tap on Phone icon. Then tap on contacts. In the contacts page on the upper left hand corner there is an icon named Group. Tap on that and then you come to a page where the heading is : Show all contacts and below that there is All iCloud, All Facebook and All Yahoo etc. Just click on All iCloud and press Done on the upper right hand top corner. You will find all the emails vanish from your contacts and only the phone contacts will remain.

Let me know if it helps.

mail, contacts calendars select your email account you will see the tab contacts switch this to OFF. It will ask you to delete email content in your contact list. Delete it.

Et voila bye bye emails in contact list.

(just FYI – it will delete ALL contacts even the PHONE contacts you have added!)

I had the same problem but what i have just done (pure trial and error) is to go into Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar and, on each of your accounts, unselect Contacts, then import SIM contacts.

Voilà! No more random email contacts and all the numbers from your SIM! (Not sure how this will effect your email contacts when emailing but you can always sync them again if needed, I guess!)

The iOS email contacts are saved into the Contacts app; so, the only way to remove the email addresses from your Contacts app would cause the email addresses not show up in the Mail app. If you are using Gmail, the official Gmail app could be the solution, but I have not used the Gmail app so I cannot be sure.

How to scan business cards into your iphone’s contact list

You need to go into your Outlook to your Contact tab and create a folder for business contacts and for personal contacts and separate them accordingly. Then on your iPhone go into your Contacts and hit groups and you can select either folder or both and this should fix your problem.

Go to Phone then select Contacts, or select the Contacts app directly. In the upper left corner select Groups, then remove Suggested Contacts from the list of synced contacts.

Did you know that you can use your iPad to make phone calls?

I will show you today five easy methods on how to use an iPad as a phone. I’m sure that many of you, like myself, would like to get more usage of their iPad. Yeah it is a big screen but who cares, nowadays, the bigger the better, right?

There are a number of ways to make calls using your iPad and I will go through each one and explain it in detail. Some of these methods are free and some other are paid, so you pick your most convenient method.

These methods should work on any iPad, I personally tested these on iPad mini, iPad (4th generation, Air and Air2)

First Method: Make calls from iPad using iPhone

This method is the most exciting one, you can basically use your iPhone to make calls through your iPad. There is a feature on your iPhone that gives you the ability to sync calls to your iPad.

What happens is that these calls get routed from your iPhone to your iPad, so you can use your iPad to place and receive calls from the contact list you have on your iPhone. Here’s how to do it:

1- On your iPhone, go to ‘Settings’-> ‘Phone’->’WiFi calling’-> Turn it ON (Depends on carriers, this is not supported in some countries)

2- Go back to Phone Settings -> Turn ON ‘Call on other devices’

3- Once you turn on ‘Call on other devices’, you will see the list of devices. Choose your iPad from the list. (make sure you’re connected to the same WiFi on both iPad and iPhone)

4- Make sure you’re logged in with the same AppleID on both devices, so you can see you iPhone’s contact list on your iPad

Second Method: Call from iPad using Facetime

Facetime is Apple’s video/audio calls application, you can find it on every apple iPhone/iPad. if both caller/receiver have facetime then you can do free calls using this app. Facetime uses your apple ID to make calls, so the other person should also login with his apple ID.

You can choose between video and audio call, if you wish to use only audio then click on ‘audio’ to place a regular call.

As I said Facetime doesn’t use your phone credits, it uses cellular data or WiFi, so all calls you make are free of charge.

Third Method: Make calls from iPad using Google Voice and Talkatone

This method works not only on iPads but on iPhones, iPods and Android devices too! It will allow to do FREE and UNLIMITED calling and texting within the US. Given the big screen and extended battery life of the iPad, it would be cool to use it as a phone. This method will use either WiFi or cellular data (considering you have the iPad 3G/4G with SIM card capabilities).

Google Voice is a free service, you can sign up and get a new number or port your existing number for a one-time fee. (please keep in mind that porting your existing number can terminate your contract with your carrier, so proceed with caution).

Google Voice doesn’t support calling feature over data and only uses your phone line and that’s not possible with an iPad, it will allow you to receive voice mails and text messages. To get around this issue, you would need to get Talkatone app as well. The good thing about it is that it integrates with Google voice account and it can also sync with your Facebook contacts.

1- Download Google Voice and Talkatone from Apple’s app store. As I mentioned earlier, you would need a number to use Google Voice so either get a new number or port your existing one.

2- Open Google Voice and sign in with your Google account on both Google Voice and set up your number.

3- Open Talkatone and sign in with your Google account, your number will appear on the app. If you sync your phone contacts with your Google account, then you will be able to see the contacts list on your Talkatone.

4- When you need to make a call, you can either choose a contact or enter the phone number manually using the keypad. Of course, you can also send and receive text messages.

As I said earlier, you will be using WiFi or data when making calls/texts, so it’s completely FREE.

For more details on how to use Talkatone, you can follow the instructions on this link.

Fourth Method: Make calls from iPad using Skype

Everybody knows Skype, the famous VoIP app that can be download on all platforms (Windows, MAC, IOS, Android..)

Calls from Skype to phone numbers aren’t free unlike the methods I mentioned earlier, however, Skype-to-Skype calls are absolutely free considering you and receiver both have the Skype app installed on your devices.

In case you need to call someone who doesn’t use Skype, then you would need to buy Skype credits to be able to make calls to a phone number.

The charges are acceptable and not very expensive, so if you’re considering calling from Skype to phone numbers, you may need to buy credits in order to use this feature. The advantage of Skype is the ability to call international numbers so you’re not limited to US like Google Voice and Talkatone.

Fifth Method: Make calls from iPad using Vonage

Vonage is another free app that enables you to make Free calls using your iPad. Vonage is similar to Talkatone as it works for users calling from US and Canada.

The easiest way is to use with Google Voice, because you need to have a number to be able to make calls. I personally use my Google Voice’s number and it works perfectly. It also works on both WiFi and data packages.

Here’s a quick step by step on how to set up Vonage:

1- Download Vonage from the app store from your ipad.

2- Open the app and input your Google Voice phone number and your email address. An SMS will be sent to the number you provided

3- Get the verification code from the received SMS and put in your Vonage app then click ‘Finish’.

4- You will now be able to make free cals using Vonage.

This is an easy set up and takes only a couple of minutes to get everything working.

    Which method should you use?

I personally use an iPad Air with Google Voice, Talkatone and Skype and all of these apps work really well. I like the big screen and the battery life of the iPad and I save a lot on credits since I’m using calls over WiFi. So which one should you use? Well, it’s really up to you, you can check which method suits best your needs.

I have provided you with as much detail as possible on these five methods, it’s now up to you to decide. All of these apps work great with the iPad, and who doesn’t want to make free calls anyway? 😉

Now that you know how to use an iPad as a phone, grab your iPad and give these methods a try!
