How to Do an Easy Magic Trick
Here’s an easy magic trick that every smart aleck needs to know. You grab any spoon, press down on it with your hands and appear to bend the spoon. As your stunned spectators register what you just did, you lift up the spoon and show that it is unbent, just as you found it.
Watch Now: The Quick and Easy Bend a Spoon Magic Trick
While it looks as if you bent the spoon with your bare hands, you actually haven’t harmed the spoon in any way. The secret’s in how you hold the spoon—it will take practice to master but it’s worth the effort. Below, learn the four simple steps it takes to learn the classic magic trick of bending a spoon.
What You’ll Need
Materials
- 1 Spoon
Instructions
The Grip
Using both of your hands, grasp the spoon and press the bowl of the spoon, open side up, onto a table. Don’t let the top if the handle peek out over your thumbs.
The Grip in Detail
This image shows the location of the spoons handle in your hands. We’ve removed one hand to show you the positioning, which is crucial.
The Bend
As you appear to press down on the spoon’s handle towards the table, the handle of the spoon slides through your hands until it’s at the base of your hands, nearest the table.
This shot shows how the effect looks to spectators, the next image shows what is actually happening.
What’s Really Happening
This image shows the position of the spoon’s handle when it appears that you have bent the spoon. The arrow shows the circular path of the handle. Of course, this action is covered by your other hand that is gripping the spoon.
This trick will take some practice to be convincing.
When you’re done, simply pick up the spoon off of the table with both hands and then show that the spoon is unbent.
Performance Options
Many magicians perform mentalism style effects where spoons are apparently bent by using the “power” of the mind. In these tricks, the spoons are actually bent and in many cases, destroyed.
In this spoon bending trick, the spoon isn’t harmed in any way. You could present and perform this one as a destruction and restoration effect where you apparently bend and damage the spoon and then bring it back to its original state.
The other way to present this effect as a quick gag or bit. You, the trickster, simply grab a spoon from the table and then appear to bend it. And everyone has fun being fooled and looking at others’ reactions to your little stunt.
Since you’re not actually bending the spoon, this one can be particularly fun at a party where you take a host’s spoon (the more expensive the better) and apparently bend it. It’s a great piece of impromptu magic that can be done at any time you have a spoon.
For more guidance and tips, you can learn this spoon bending trick in this instructional video.
How to Do the Two Corks Party Trick
Things You’ll Need
- Table
- Coin
Some magic tricks look amazing but are actually very simple and fun to perform. With plenty of practice doing a magic trick can be fairly easy, and you can impress your family or any audience. The coin trick is good place to start since it can look impressive and is very effective; you can fool anyone. Once you have mastered the basics of this trick, you will be able to adapt it to suit your style.
Tell your audience that you’re going to do a coin trick to get them excited and ready to watch your performance. This trick is as much about performance as it is about technique.
Place your coin on the table. Explain to your audience what you are doing, but be careful not to let them in on the illusion. Press down on the coin with your index, middle and third finger, then slide the coin towards you, keeping your arm parallel to the table; the coin should be completely covered up.
Slide the coin off the table so it falls into your lap. Bring your thumb to your middle finger as if you are going to pick the coin up as it reaches the edge of the table. Keep all of your fingers closed.
Look where the coin should be and whilst you are doing this, slowly move your hand away from your back to about 5 inches above where the coin originally was.
Start moving your thumb in a circular movement as if the coin is disappearing. Slowly turn your hand around and spread your fingers apart.
Turn your hand to the audience, and show them the coin has now disappeared.
Use magic words to convey that the trick is complete; examples include words such as “abracadabra” and “presto.” Act surprised and play along with the illusion; people are more likely to believe this trick if you act like you believe it yourself.
Stay calm — audiences love magic tricks, but if you do go wrong, start again, as trying to cover it up can make it worse. Create a story — taking simple tricks and adding an interesting story can work like magic. Tell jokes — this will keep the audience’s eyes on your mouth instead of your hands. Start with simple magic tricks and build up to the more complicated tricks.
Warnings
Practice in front of a mirror before showing anyone — the more you practice, the more realistic it will look, and the more likely you’ll be able to fool your audience.
While magicians don’t often reveal their secrets, you’ll find some here! Your kids can use these tricks to amaze their friends.
Magic tricks for kids are a great way for parents and nannies to keep the family entertained. After all, who doesn’t love magic?
“When I perform for kids, I try to help them feel like adults, and when I perform for adults, I try to make them feel like kids,” says New York City magician Gary “Gary The Great” Ferrar. Magic tricks are fun, sure, but there’s even more to it. Magic is good for kids, asserts Nicholas “Magical Nick” Pugh, a Pennsylvania-based magician. “Learning magic tricks at a young age builds confidence and helps with social building skills, especially if the child tends to be a little shy,” he says.
Here are a few fun and easy magic tricks for kids to get your young magician started:
- Spoon Bending
The trick is all in the way you hold the spoon. You press down on the spoon while sliding your hand along the handle, which gives the illusion of the utensil bending. It takes some practice, but is one of the easier magic tricks for kids to master. Get the full directions at Udemy. - Walk Through Paper
Kidzone has a printable template that allows your young magician to walk through a hole in a standard piece of paper. How is that possible? Why magic, of course! Well, magic and enough cuts to turn the piece of paper into something with a very large opening. - Talking Magic Calculator
All your child needs is a calculator and a good memory. Your child will start by telling a friend the calculator wants to talk to them and that the code to get the conversation started is 0.7734. When the calculator is turned upside down with this number punched in, it looks as if the display says “HELLO.” Get more codes at Kidspot. - Betcha Can’t Crack an Egg
Have your child challenge her friends to crack a raw egg with their bare hands. What your child will know is that an egg is actually pretty tough when squeezed with the hand. Its shape allows it to withstand pressure very well when applied all over. Funology recommends doing this trick over a sink, though, just in case someone is strong enough! - Disappearing Water Trick
Your child will say a magic word of his choice over a cup of water, turn the cup over and only a chunk of ice will come out. Magic Tricks Reviewed explains the secret — a sponge wedged in the bottom of the glass absorbs the water. The ice cube is placed on top of the sponge. - Levitating Card
Rebel Magic provides a free video tutorial to teach this easy card trick to beginners. It involves creating a special card using plastic and super glue. Your child will be able to make the card look like it has levitated off her palm into the air. Because a live audience will want to touch the card, this is a trick that is best performed over Skype for cousins or grandparents. - Rubber Pencil
Positive Parenting shares this classic magic trick. By holding a regular pencil down by the eraser and shaking it at just the right speed, it appears to become made of bendable rubber instead of wood. This one doesn’t take any special skill, just a lot of practice to get the speed and technique just right. - Disappearing Coin
Kidspot says a basic disappearing coin trick is a great starter to help your child develop the fine motor skills, discipline and confidence needed to perform magic. The trick is to get down a sleight of hand so that when the coin is dropped into the magician’s lap, the audience doesn’t notice. - Rising Arm
Your child has a friend lean an arm against a wall for 30 to 60 seconds and says, “You will now slowly step away from the wall as I lift your arm with my mind.” According to Funology, the other child’s arm will automatically rise as they step away from the wall. - Make an Egg Fit Through an Impossibly Small Hole
This activity is actually a science experiment from Science Sparks, but it looks like magic! It requires a cooled, peeled hard-boiled egg, a glass bottle with a hole a bit smaller than the egg, two matches and an adult assistant for lighting the matches.
Magic tricks are fun any time, but they’re especially great for engaging young minds during school breaks. Magic can be an extra special addition to Kids Activities.
Rachael Moshman, who has her master’s degree in education, has loved watching kids explore magic, both as an early childhood educator and as a mom for decades.
Introduction: How to Do a Cool and Simple Card Trick
I learned how to do this simple card trick from my uncle. It’s really easy to do but will still amaze the person you are showing it to. However if the person asks you to show the trick to them again DON’T. The reason for this is that they may find out how the trick works.
Keep reading to find out how to do this card trick!
Step 1: Shuffle the Deck
I know that this is sounds really simple but it is the most crucial part of the trick.
While shuffling you must take a look at the bottom card and memorize it (both number and suit). This will be very important later in the trick.
Step 2: Pick a Card
Now you fan the cards and ask the person to pick a card, look at it, and put it at the bottom of the deck.
Step 3: Shuffle the Deck, Again
This is also very important you must cut the cards up to 4 times (simple but important).
Step 4: Is This Your Card?
Now take the deck and start flipping cards over. Do you remember the card that you memorized earlier? When you see this card then you flip over one more card, pick it up and ask is this your card?

Everyone loves a well-performed magic trick. It’s great for parties and entertains both young and old.
Because of this, we compiled 3 cool magic tricks to impress your friends and family, along with a step by step guide that even kids can follow.
Ready to be the next young Houdini? Great! Let’s get started.
Before We Get Started, Here’s the Card Deck You Need
With every great magic card trick, the most important thing you need is a good set of cards. And sometimes, to truly impress an audience, a standard deck just won’t do.
This is why we’ve dedicated hours to find the best deck of cards available on the market. We’re presenting our favorite choice here. Namely, the Magic Maker’s Ultimate Gaff Deck.
Magic Makers Ultimate Gaff Deck isn’t just a deck of cards; it’s a collection of different styled decks and tricks for magicians of every level to learn and perform.
A Little Sneak Peek Inside the Box
The Ultimate Gaff Deck contains the following:
- A uniquely printed bicycle deck
- An instructional DVD
- A booklet of printed instructions
- An exclusive bonus special prop
In addition to this, there’s a total of 13 tricks that are explained in detail in their instructional DVD and booklet. Among these are the notable Full Deck Color Change, Crazy Aces, Queens Gone Wild, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Trading Kings.
Here’s a little taste of what to expect with the Ultimate Gaff Deck; a step-by-step guide of the 3 easiest tricks!
Chase the Ace
Chase the Ace has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years. Since the turn of the 15th century, in fact! Also known as 3-Card Monte and Three-card Trick, Chase the Ace is a magic trick that only has one goal: to find the Ace among the three face-down playing cards.
But there’s a twist; the player has no chance of winning whatsoever.
There are two different variations for this trick, the “Bent Corner” variation, and the “Solo” variation.
We’ll be discussing the Solo variation.
Step 1: What You’ll Need
3 cards – 2 identical and 1 different.
Step 2: Card Set-Up
For the purpose of this tutorial, let’s say the winning card is an Ace and the 2 losing cards are Jokers. Hold up these 3 cards in front of your audience side by side in a Joker – Ace – Joker fashion.
Step 3: The Switch
Hold the losing card along the bottom edges between your thumb and index finger, beside the winning card.
Remember, the positioning of the cards is Joker – Ace – Joker.
For a more genuine effect, flick the first Joker before setting it down on the table.
Do the same to your Ace, but before placing it down – and this is the crucial part – swap the cards using your thumb finger to the losing card, giving your audience the illusion that you’ve set down the Ace instead of the Joker.
Once all down the table, ask your audience to choose. They’ll always choose the wrong card.
This trick relies on your sleight of hand, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it the first few times. Practice makes perfect!
Itsy Bitsy Spider
This is a trick that’ll surely blow your audience’s minds. Imagine this: You have 4 cards with a drawing of a spider on the front. You show them to your spectators, flip the cards over, snap your fingers, and bam! The spiders vanish! All that’s left is their webs.
But there’s a surprise to it. With a wave of your hand, you can bring these spiders back…literally!
Let’s see how it works.
Step 1: What You’ll Need
In this trick, you’ll be using items only found in the Ultimate Gaff Deck; 5 spider cards, (3 blank spiderweb cards, 1 double-sided spider card, 1 standard spider card), and a special spider prop.
We’re not going to show you how the spider comes into action in this guide – you’ll have to buy the set yourself to see how it really comes into play. No spoilers from us!
Step 2: Card Set-Up
You need to follow this card placement, from left to right: Spider card, 2 blank spiderweb cards, and double-sided spider card on top of the blank spider card.
So when you flip the cards, you’ll have a total of only 4 cards as one of them is on top of the other.
Step 3: The Disappearing Act
As you’re showing your audience the cards, turn the last two cards over to show your audience the two spiders. After this, you’ll need to put an act of showing them the rest of your cards.
This is where your sleight of hand comes into play; you’re not going to show them the empty cards, not really! You’ll instead keep flipping the top card quickly, giving it the illusion that all your cards have spiders on them.
This takes a bit of practice. No one should suspect you’re doing this, or your trick is spoiled.
To make the spiders vanish, all you’ll need to do is to flip the double-sided card over the deck and viola. The spiders are gone!
Queens Gone Wild
With this, you have a total of 8 Spades and 1 Queen of Hearts on the table. The trick? One by one, you’ll transform every Spade into a Queen of Heart in front of your audience’s very eyes.
Crazy, huh? Here’s how you do it.
Step 1: What You’ll Need
You will once again need cards from the Ultimate Gaff Deck.
You need 4 double faced-Queen of Hearts and 9 of Spades, and 5 regular Queen of Hearts.
Step 2: Card Set-Up
Place the 5 regularly faced Queen of Hearts in your hand, and place the four double facers on top of them. While showing your audience the cards, make sure to avoid showing them any more than 1 Queen of Heart.
To do this, you’ll need to count 4 Spades before showing them your Queen, before very subtly pulling the previous 4 Spades on top of the deck and counting once again, as if you’re showing them the rest of the cards.
This is the hardest part of the trick to master. You’ll be able to perform the trick smoothly once you do.
Step 3: The Flip
After this, you’ll be dealing the Queens face down, and the double-faced 9’s face up. This will show your spectators that you have four 9’s of Spades and four face-down cards.
This is where the magic happens: while collecting the cards, make sure that you’re flipping the double-sided 9’s to Queens, and show your audience that you managed to turn all your cards into Queens!
Just be careful not to show them the double-sided cards!
Final Thoughts
You don’t have to be Criss Angel to impress the world. Sometimes, all we need is a set of magical card decks.
And with the help of Magic Maker’s Ultimate Gaff Deck, you may be on your way to being one of the best. Or just simply one who everyone wants to invite to every party!

Here’s 4 magic tricks you can do with just your fingers and thumbs. They don’t require any practice, once you know the method- you could be doing them in minutes!
These are some pretty cool hand illusions you can do anytime, anywhere. That’s one of the beauties of prop less magic. This is the first post where I’ll be revealing some magic tricks so I hope you enjoy, more to follow.
flickr.com
Without further a do, lets get straight in to it… Here are the illusions we’re going to run through:
- The classic thumb remover
- Thumb stretcher!
- (Not so) Impossible finger bend
- Finger snap, crackle, pop
Ok so let’s kick things off with the thumb remover. This is an absolute classic, one that kids absolutely love and I still remember how baffled I was the first time I saw it.
Basically you appear to grab the top part of your thumb and VISUALLY separate it from the bottom part. Your audience sees an actual space where your thumb is missing before you then replace your thumb and magically restore it back together again.
Here’s a gif of how it looks:
So how do you do it? Well as with all finger tricks, it’s very simple. First you’ll want to fold your thumb down at the knuckle like so:
Next, put your other thumb up (knuckle also folded) to join it so they’re in a similar position.
Finally, wrap your index finger around the join to cover it up.
From the other side it should now look pretty convincing that this is your normal thumb.
Now all that’s left to do is to separate it in a dramatic fashion a few times before quickly returning it back to normal. When you return it back to normal just let go with your index finger and straighten both thumbs really quickly. You can even throw in a screwing motion at the end to give the impression you just stuck the thumb back together.
Extras- You can make this even more gory by adding some fake blood to your thumb knuckle for when you “remove” the tip.
Next we’re on to the thumb stretcher. This is really visual and looks awesome.
You grab your thumb and then appear to grip the top of it in your teeth before pulling upwards. The thumb appears to stretch an impossible amount as you pull up. Here’s how it looks:
The method: Again this is an illusion that works on the way you grip the thumb. As you close your hand around your left thumb, you’re actually closing your fingers around your right thumb. The audience only see the top of the thumb from the front so they won’t be able to tell. Next, you pretend to grab your thumb with your teeth and stretch upwards. As you pull up with your teeth, fully extend both thumbs to exaggerate the stretching.
Finally, return your thumb back down and as you do so, lower your right thumb below your left before you uncurl your fingers. This will help secure the illusion that it was definitely the left thumb that stretched.
The Not so impossible finger bend…
I think this trick has even been featured by Dynamo which shows you how cool the illusion is. The effect: Basically you take your little finger and appear to slowly start bending it SIDEWAYS. There appears to be a click and the finger bends an impossible 45 degrees! It looks gross, gets great reactions and it’s not painful in the slightest.
So how does it work? Basically this is an optical illusion. You’re actually bending your finger forwards, the normal way it should bend. You’ll notice that if you bend your little finger forward slightly, it’s a lot easier to rotate towards your other fingers. All you’re doing here is curling your little finger forwards and bending it slightly to touch your ring finger.
Once in that position you can push in the second knuckle to give an impossible angle and make it look super gross. Pushing the second knuckle in suddenly also gives the appearance of a click or dislocation! This effect is really just an optical illusion. In reality you’re bending your little finger only slightly to the side but it looks like it’s completely wrong.
One thing you could try with this is to have a plastic cup under your armpit. As you push the knuckle in, crush the plastic cup under your armpit to make a horrendous crunch noise. This really seals the deal, you’ll have people running away from you screaming at this point! It’s very important to add a dramatic jolt to your finger (like in the clip above) as you reach the final position to make it appear as though bones have just broken!
Finger snap, crackle and pop
This one is a real crowd pleaser. Make your fingers crack with really loud pops, you’ll have everyone wondering if you’re pulling your fingers out of socket.
The effect: You bend your fingers back as if to click/crack them when suddenly there’s an enormous click noise, your audience gasp and you take a bow as they admire your cracking power.
This one is really simple to do and it will fool people every single time. What you need to do is grasp one of your fingers as if you’re going to bend it backwards to crack it. Then from behind, bring your thumb and finger together and click your fingers together like so:
So you’re basically just clicking your fingers but it’s hidden by the motion of bending your finger of your other hand backwards. What’s great is that as you click your fingers, this will jolt your hands slightly, making the crack seem even more real.
Extra- You could try tying this in with the little finger bend illusion to eliminate the need for the plastic cup.
So there you have it! 4 tricks you can do using just your hands that will blow minds. Have fun with them, be sure to follow the blog to get all the new posts so you don’t miss out on learning magic tricks!
Do magic, read minds, and impress your friends!
Do You Want to Learn Magic?
Magic can be an illusion, a deception, or a surprising display of the laws of science. Well, it’s an art, too, so if you’re dramatic, artistic, scientific, and/or tricky, knowing magic and having a few tricks up your sleeve is an excellent and fun way to amuse people and mess with their minds.
Although magic is an honest profession, a magician’s job is to deceive you. Magic is the one time getting fooled is fun. Magicians have been tricking people since the beginning of time and if you learn this ancient art, you’ll know that it feels like dream come true.
Here I present five simple tricks. Anyone, even those who have never done magic before, can do these.
Remember: anyone can do magic, but not everyone can do it well. Making the trick truly tricky requires practice.
Magic Trick #1: Three Dates
Our first trick is a popular trick for a young audience by David Ginn, a native of Atlantic City in the US. He is a full-time magician who always includes simple and fun tricks for children in his performances.
Material required: A calendar, a piece of plain paper, a pencil, and a mathematic mind. (The paper and pencil are for the kid you’re doing the trick for. You’ll need to do simple math in your head.)
Magic: Give a kid a calendar and ask him/her to choose three successive days from any one month, without telling you which days or month. Give the kid the paper and pencil and have him/her add the three numbers and tell you the sum. Any three successive dates from 1 to 31 will do, as long as they are consecutive. After you have this number, you will be able to tell that kid which three dates s/he chose.
Secret: This a very simple trick. Once you have the sum of the three dates, all you have to do is divide that number by 3, which will give you the middle date they chose. For example, the kid chose the 24th, 25th and 26th of October, then added those up and told you the number 75. In your head, you divide by 3 and get 25: that is the kid’s middle number. Add 1 to get the date after and subtract 1 to get the date before.
Magic trick with a calendar.
Magic Trick #2: Numbered Disks
This second trick is a simple, mind-reading party trick. However, it requires a careful performance to make it appear truly magical.
This trick was created by Dr. BV Pattabhi Ram, the first magician in Asia to receive doctorate at a university for his services to the Art of Magic. He used to perform this trick in high school where friends called him a mathematical wizard, even though he says he never got good marks in math.
Materials required: five cardboard circles. Write seven numbers on each card, as shown in the illustration.
Magic: Place all the cards on a table and declare you will be reading the mind of a member in the audience. Let someone come forward. Ask them to think of a number between 1 and 14 and then pick up every card on the table that bears that number. Then you can make a big show of announce the correct number.
Secret: All you have to do is add the numbers in the middle of every card left over on table and subtract that sum from 15 to get the correct number.
Wasn’t that easy? 🙂
Magic trick with numbers.
Magic Trick #3: Truth by Fire
The third trick is one that is traditionally performed by a roadside juggler. This is a fortune-telling trick that uses a box of miraculous matches to predict the future. When setting up this trick, you should have a good story to tell about how fire knows everything, and how all those secrets are contained inside the match, waiting to be set free.
Materials required: A box of wooden matches and a big bowl full of water. (You will also need glue, a wire cutter, and a sewing pin.)
Magic: You can have some fun with your friends and your imagination on this one. You can set this trick up any way you want it. Use one of these stories or make up your own to accompany your match trick:
- Ask a friend to imagine three girls/boys they know. Hand them a regular match, have them say one of the names, then have them strike the match and throw it into a bowl of water. When it floats horizontally, have them say the next name and repeat. After they say the third name, hand them a special match and when the match floats vertically in the water, you say that means they will marry that person.
- Have a friend throw four matches: one represents north, one south, one east, and one west. The one that floats vertically indicates the direction they will travel in life.
- Have them choose three professions or three colleges or three cities and use the matches to see where they’ll end up.
- Have your friend ask three questions. Tell them that if the match lies flat, the answer is “no” but if the match points to the sky, the answer is “yes.”
Secret: The easiest way to make a matchstick float vertically in a glass of water is to weight its end. Set up: take a match and stick a pin in the end of it (the side opposite the red phosphorus). Cut off excess metal with a wire cutter so the end doesn’t show. If the wood splits a little, you can mend it with a little glue. When you’re done, the weighted match should look like a regular match. If you’re friend is very observant, maybe you should be the one to strike and throw the match so they won’t have the opportunity to study that match very closely!
