How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Did you wear those little white tank top undershirts when you were little? I used to make my mom cut off that teeny tiny bow at the neckline. The only skirt I would wear was my plaid uniform one and I only wore it because I was afraid of getting hit with a ruler if I didn’t. I had a really short haircut and preferred Evil Knieval to Barbie. So, I have shopping sympathy for my daughter who takes after me. With all the stores and websites, you’d think it would be easier to find clothes for a tomboy. While she would prefer the plain look of boys’ clothes, she can’t wear most of them because of the cut, and it is hard to find girls’ clothes without hearts, flowers or glitter. Even the sporty stuff is bedazzled. The worst part is, she will wear what I buy her without complaining, but she exudes discomfort when she doesn’t like it. I get itchy just looking at her. It is like hanging out with Mr. T in a dress.

The following is a list of stores at which I’ve had better success:

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School UniformNext is a UK company, so you have to leave some time for shipping, but the clothing is cute and reasonably priced.

Abercrombie Kids describes itself as preppy, but preppy looked different when I was a kid. The clothes are adorable. You will wish they have your size, but they are pricey for clothes she will outgrow quickly. Watch the sizing. Lots of their girls’ clothes are cut really small. Also, lookout for sales. You can usually find one for 40% off if you are patient and on their email list.

American Eagle has a kids’ line called Rumm. You’ll have to sort through to find stuff for your tree-climbing girl, but the basics are there.

I sometimes have luck at Old Navy and Gap Kids, but often they insist on putting sparkles and hearts on even the plainest of styles. The department stores are hit or miss, but the following brands are go-tos: Arizona Jean Co. at JCPenney, BCX Girls at Macy’s, Ralph Lauren at Bloomingdale’s.

Here’s a couple of tips for avoiding the attire argument before special occasions:
– Skirts go over better than dresses.
– A cute pair of Converse sneakers are often appropriate.
– Make compromises, e.g. you can wear your favorite jeans, but you have to leave the scarf on, or, leave the nice shoes on for the first hour and then you can change.
– Everyone would rather have a happy, comfortable kid at the party . as long as she is neat and clean, let it go. She’ll be raiding your wardrobe and your wallet soon enough.

While the wearing of school uniforms has a long history across Australia, we are only just starting to talk about the expectations around what girls wear to school.

From discussion about the lack of change in girls’ uniforms over time, to questions about why schools need to divide students down gender lines at all, various groups are asking why girls are still required to wear skirts and dresses at schools.

Girls’ uniforms and physical activity

For some parents, requiring girls to wear skirts and dresses to school is an outdated expectation that amounts to gender disadvantage and discrimination. As research shows, skirts and dresses

restrict movement in real ways; wearers must negotiate how they sit, how they play, and how quickly they move. Skirt-wearing, consciously and unconsciously, imposes considerations of modesty and immodesty, in ways that trousers do not.

Wearing a skirt can also inhibit a girl’s ability to participate in sports.

A study conducted in one Australian primary school in 2012 found that girls did significantly less exercise over a two-week period when wearing a school dress than they did when wearing shorts.

Research by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that young women do significantly less physical activity than young men.

Reasons given for this include the fear of being judged or ridiculed, and the tension between wanting to appear feminine and attractive, and the sweaty, muscular image attached to active girls.

It can be argued that making girls wear skirts and dresses plays directly into this tension and their fears.

In an attempt to support girls exercising more, the Australian government launched a campaign in February 2016 called “Girls Make Your Move”.

The focus on girls is important, as regular physical activity and exercise are associated with improved school performance, a greater sense of personal responsibility and group co-operation, and reduced drug and alcohol consumption.

While expensive education and awareness campaigns may encourage more girls to engage in sport, a simple change to what they are required to wear to school could have a far greater impact.

Education policy

While state education departments have the power to enforce uniform policies that are equitable, they largely leave it to individual schools.

All states require schools to comply with anti-discrimination legislation. In Queensland, for example, the Department of Education’s school dress code guidelines require that “student dress codes offer gender-neutral uniform options for all students”.

However, these policy documents are often wordy and wishy-washy. This leaves schools with a lack of clarity about exactly what is required.

Principals and parents may be confused by the language used in policy documents, and can conclude that allowing flexibility for students who request “special circumstances” is enough.

When this occurs, it is highly likely that most school children will continue to wear the same uniform as the majority of their same-sex peers, as fitting in is crucially important for children and adolescents. This means girls will likely continue to wear skirts and dresses.

While principals may be open to allowing “special circumstances”, it could be argued that the right of girls to wear shorts to school needs to be a given, and not a privilege that needs to be argued for in each individual case.

Will legal challenges be the way forward?

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission identified school uniform policies as an area where schools could find themselves vulnerable to legal action.

The commission said:

Requiring female students to wear dresses instead of pants may amount to direct discrimination.

Despite this, many schools continue to require girls to wear skirts and dresses.

To date, there has been no reported case of a school having to remove its requirements for girls to wear skirts and dresses as their only option in order to align with Education Department policy. But the desire for change is growing among parents.

A Melbourne mother recently created a petition on Change.org after her daughter was refused the right to wear trousers to her Catholic school, despite the fact that boys had this option. The petition called for the Victorian Department of Education to legislate that all schools must offer non-discriminatory gender uniform choices.

With 17,951 signatures supporting the petition, the issue is proving to be one that a number of parents think is important.

Will a school need to face legal action before all schools move to have uniform policies that allow girls to be as comfortable and free to move as the boys sitting beside them?

Welcome to the latest edition of Ask CF! Every couple of weeks, we select a reader fashion question and answer it here on the site. Do you have a specific fashion question for us? Scroll to the bottom of this post to learn how to send it our way!

Ask CF Question

I’m very much a tomboy and love wearing jeans and a t-shirt. But a lot of my friends say I can’t wear that going into college. Any ideas for outfits that will stay true to my style, but be suitable for college?

Our Response

Dear College Tomboy,

Fashion is all about expressing your individual personality; that’s why it’s called personal style. Just because you are going to college doesn’t mean you should dress any differently than how you already like to dress. (Of course, if your college has a strict dress code, that’s an exception. But even then you can always add in your own touch of personal style!)

It’s understandable that others may think jeans and a t-shirt aren’t appropriate for college. But with a few additions to these basics, you can transform a basic jeans and t-shirt uniform into a unique and pulled-together look.

Instead of changing your “tomboy” style into something else, embrace it! Male fashion bloggers such as Andreas, Pelayo, and Adam, have been huge inspirations to myself and many well-known women in fashion. Personally, I’ve found my style inspired by men’s fashion recently. Instead of accessorizing a girly mini-skirt with a pretty necklace and sandals, I have found myself reaching for a baseball cap and sneakers instead. And, of course, the jeans-and-tee route has been on constant rotation.

For inspiration to transform your tomboy style into a statement-making personal style of your own, I’ve created a few “tomboy,” jeans & tee looks below that are appropriate for class. Hope this helps. And enjoy college!

Outfit # 1

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Maybe this t-shirt is a little cliché, but there’s no better way to embrace your tomboy style than to express it outright! For the jeans, I chose a high-waist dark denim jegging. Lately I have been loving a high-waisted jean; it’s a welcome change from the low-rise style that has been popular for a few years.

Like I mentioned above, some fun accessories are all you need to add to a jeans-and-tee routine to keep it looking fresh, unique, and stylish. An oxblood baseball cap perfectly captures a tomboy aesthetic. High-top sneakers are a comfy on-the-go shoe choice, while sparkly chandelier earrings bring in a feminine element to the look.

Outfit # 2

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

For this second outfit, I chose to pair some black distressed shorts with a graphic tee. While this boyfriend t-shirt is oversized and casual, the lace print of the numbers add that girlish touch. Additional feminine elements like a jeweled necklace and floral combat boots continue this trend. Finish with a lightweight military jacket and fedora.

Outfit # 3

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

No tomboy jeans-and-tee style guide would be complete without a pair of boyfriend jeans. I like the distressed look of these, but there are many other options sans-tears if you prefer. Next, throw on a sweater — I love this graphic superhero one, but a simple knit or color-block sweater could work equally well. Finish the look with accessories like sequin Keds, cat-eye sunnies, a functional black backpack, and a geometric watch.

Do you have a fashion question? Send it our way!

I am one of the smartest girls in my grade. I play a lot of sport, I am rough, and I’ve recently learned that a lot of people in my grade/school think of me as ‘one of the boys’. I am not afraid to speak my mind, and I guess when people piss me off I kind of lose it a little. I’m really not much of a violent person, but whenever I get worked up people are always like ‘omg please don’t hit me !’ or ‘dude. she’s gonna hit you so hard for saying that!’ I try to tell them that I don’t just hit people, but they’re always like lol yes you do. It kind of hurts. I try telling them and they always think I’m just joking. they also always joke about how smart I am. I spend a lot of time online and stuff, and sometimes (by force of habit) I correct people, and they kinda jokingly mock me and say like, oh watch out, Mr Jousting’s here. (Mr Jousting is my school’s head of English). Or if I raise my hand to answer a question everyone’s always like oh look who’s a little genius as usual. I hang out with the ‘popular’ group in my grade (not sure how that happened, but I do fit in well with them) I am sporty, I have a good figure and I wouldn’t say I’m ugly. and I really want to ditch this geeky tomboy reputation, and get people to realise that I am a girl (haha). I want to be more like the girls I hang around. pretty, girly, seen as someone guys want to date, not play rugby with, and be known by more people. I’m not saying I want to change who I am, I just want to get rid of this whole reputation thing. I want a new one, one as girly girl. I do like shopping, I listen to music like it’s my life. I am a lot like most of the girls I hang out with, people just never have a chance to see it. basically, I just want a new image make-over. I still want to keep up my grades and be a good student, and there is no way I’m giving up my sport (alot of the girls in my ‘group’ hang play some sport as well. ) but please, help me to get people to treat me as more of a pretty, popular, girly kind of girl 🙂 any tips and stuff are really appreciated ! 🙂

a few things I forgot to add, I live in Australia (in Brisbane) I go to a private school that is pretty strict on uniform, and we are not supposed to wear make-up but a lot of girls do. teachers just don’t pick up on it because the girls are good at doing their make-up, which I am not. I tried to put eyeliner on once and I looked like a hooker :L

something else – my sister is in grade 12 and the Prefect of Sport at my school. She is Netball, Touch Football and Field Hockey captain. She is actually one of the most beautiful people ever, she is so kind and caring and is friends with everyone. Although she plays a lot of sport, she is one of the girliest people ever. She does modelling and is starting to get put in magazines and on ads and stuff. Everyone loves her, and when they find out she has a sister they think ‘oh her sister must be pretty cool!’ but when they find out that the sister is me, they seem to think ‘oh.. what went wrong?’

Having a hobby that you enjoy—whether that’s crocheting a sweater for your bestie’s new baby, hitting the slopes to enjoy some fresh powder, or practicing pirouettes in ballet class—has all sorts of well-documented benefits, from lower levels of stress to an increased sense of belonging and purpose.

Clearly, hobbies can make a serious impact on your quality of life. But they can also improve your work performance. According to licensed professional counselor Rebecca Weiler, when you’re engaged and fulfilled in your life outside of work (like you are when you’re pursuing meaningful hobbies), that happiness spills over. It can make you more focused and enthusiastic when you’re on the job.

And depending on the hobby, the skills you gain as a result of your leisurely pursuits can also make you better at your job (and make you a more appealing candidate for potential employers). “For example, someone who performs in an improvisational group as a hobby could be attractive to an employer because they can think quickly on their feet and may also be more comfortable presenting in front of a group of people,” Weiler says.

So, having a hobby that you love can do good things for your life and your job. But what if you don’t actually have a hobby you enjoy? You’re not alone. According to Weiler, trying to find meaningful hobbies is one of the primary reasons her clients—especially young people—seek counseling.

Clearly, there are plenty of people out there who don’t have, or don’t know how to find, a hobby. But that doesn’t mean they can’t find one. It doesn’t matter if you’re 25 or 85 years old—it’s not too late to hop on board the hobby train! Here are a few strategies you can use to find a hobby you truly love.

1. Transform What You Already Enjoy Into a Hobby

Even if you don’t have something that you consider a hobby, there’s definitely some activity that you enjoy—and chances are, there’s a way to transform it into a full-fledged hobby. “I always ask people what it is they like to do for fun,” says Weiler. “It’s a good thing to explore—because things like ‘eating’ and ‘watching sports’ could easily be turned into hobbies such as ‘taking cooking classes’ or ‘joining a softball team.’”

Look at the ways you already enjoy spending your time and figure out how they can become hobbies. Have you watched every stand-up special on Netflix. twice? Try taking an improv class. Is your favorite part of the day playing with your dog? Try volunteering with a rescue organization. Love reading about random pop culture facts on the internet? Try joining a trivia team.

The point is, you’re already doing things you love. The easiest way to find hobbies that you truly enjoy—and that will make you a better, more well-rounded person and employee—is to figure out how to build off those things.

2. Reclaim Your Childhood Interests

Think about the hobbies you used to enjoy before work, life, and #adulting got in the way.

When you were a kid, what did you like to do? Did you spend hours finger-painting masterpieces to hang on the fridge? If so, you might want to explore taking an art class. Were you constantly getting dressed in costume and putting on shows for your friends? Then maybe you can check out a local acting troupe. Or maybe you spent the entire year looking forward to Field Day at school—in which case, you could explore joining an adult kickball or flag football league.

When you were a kid, you probably had hobbies you loved—so revisiting them as an adult can be a great way to get back into the groove.

3. Take an Assessment

The most fun hobby in the world for one person can be downright torturous for another—and vice versa. People tend to enjoy hobbies that appeal to their own unique strengths, interests, and personality characteristics.

According to Weiler, there are a number of personality assessments that can help you figure out which hobbies might be the right fit. Two of the most effective? The Strong Interest Inventory, which can help you identify key interests, and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, which can give you deeper insight into your personality type. These assessments can help you figure out which hobbies are most aligned with who you are and offer insight into what you might enjoy.

So, for example, you might take the Myers-Briggs assessment and find out you’re an ENFJ. ENFJs tend to be social, passionate, and altruistic—so doing volunteer work for a charitable organization might feel like a meaningful hobby to pursue. Or maybe you’re an INTP, in which case you value logic above all else—so learning how to program and spending your free time writing computer software or games could be a great fit.

4. Start Trying Things (and See What Sticks)

The truth is, no matter how you approach finding a new hobby, it can be hit or miss. For example, you might think crafting is the perfect creative outlet—only to find it feels boring and monotonous. That’s OK! If you really want to find a hobby you love, you need to be willing to put yourself out there—and be just as willing to accept that not everything you try is going to be a slam dunk.

Think of anything you might find interesting—whether that’s kite surfing, macramé, or karate—and take a class. If you like it, great! Keep pursuing it. If not, cross it off the list and move on to the next potentially interesting thing.

“Join organizations, clubs, or groups where you can try things out. Websites such as Meetup.com are a great way to explore different interests which can then lead to hobbies and also allows people to test the waters at no or a low cost,” says Weiler. “Connecting with similarly minded people can also be important as it can teach us more about ourselves and what we like/dislike or want to make a commitment to.”

It might take a few attempts to find a hobby that you love, but the key is to not give up. Keep putting yourself out there, connecting with people, and exploring new things that feel exciting to you. Eventually, you’ll find a hobby that feels like the right fit—and you’ll learn a bunch of new things and meet cool people in the process!

Windows 10 still has problems but Windows 7 is about to hit the scrap heap (and Windows 8 is a pointless sideways move). As such, millions of users must soon jump to Windows 10 for the safety of their data and Microsoft charges $139 for the standard edition. But what if I told you there’s a legal way you can still upgrade for free?

02/04 Update: Now Windows 7 has now reached end of life it is no longer safe to store your data on the platform because all new vulnerabilities will be left exposed. Consequently. I’ve received a lot of updates asking if this free upgrade hack for Windows 10 still works. I’ve just retested it and it does. I will continue to check this monthly due to high demand.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Free Windows 10 upgrades are still available

Yes, this is no joke. Despite Microsoft ending its free Windows 10 upgrade offer to all users on July 30, 2016, the company has (in my opinion, knowingly) left open a loophole. There’s just one snag: you will need a legal copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8 to do this.

Tip: if you don’t have one, you can buy a legal copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8 at third part retailers for a fraction of the cost of a Windows 10 licence. Home licences update to Windows 10 Home, Pro licences update to Windows 10 Pro, so choose carefully.

With that caveat out the way, here’s how you get your Windows 10 free upgrade:

  1. Click on the Windows 10 download page link here
  2. Click ‘Download Tool now‘ – this downloads the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.
  3. When finished, open the download and accept the license terms
  4. Choose: ‘Upgrade this PC now‘ then click ‘Next’
  5. Choose ‘Keep personal files and apps
  6. Click ‘Install’ (note this takes some time and involves multiple restarts)
  7. Once installed, open: Settings > Windows Update > Activation to activate your Windows 10 digital license.
  8. OR enter your (genuine) Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 product key if you haven’t previously activated your old version of Windows

If you’d like to check your licence has successfully been activated afterwards, open: Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Note: a Windows 10 licence is tied to your hardware. As such, if you need to format your computer for any reason Windows 10 will reactivate automatically.

Tip: if you change multiple components in your PC as part of a device upgrade, Windows 10 may mistakenly think you’ve bought a new PC and refuse to register the licence automatically. Thankfully, Microsoft has a simple process you can follow if that happens.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

a girl who would pick diggin up worms and climbing tree in her backyard rather than goin shopping at a mall. tomboys tend to hang out and get along with boys rather than fellow girls. tomboys usually get this way from hanging out with brothers/neighborhood boys and their friends or being raised by brothers or males figures of the family. a stereotypical tomboy wears no makeup or jewelry, wears jeans, baseball caps, has scraggly hair, etc. this is not neccesarily true, as many tomboys wear girl stuff. they just dont care what other girls or people think of them. a tomboy who wears girl stuff usual does not cooperate with “normal” girl activities and due stuff that they like to do.

despite hangin out mainly with boys, a large number of boys find tomboys attractive. jealous preppy girls usually get jealous and try to spread rumors that tomboys are lesbians, but in all actuality, its the preppy slut who looses because tomboys dont care SHIT about what other think of them and the guys still like them! ;P

indeed, tomboys are the true individuals of society.

Adding lines and boxes in Word 2010 is handled by the Border command button in the Home tab’s Paragraph group and the Borders and Shading dialog box. (A line is known as a border in Word.)

Putting a line above a heading

A common use of lines in Word is to apply a line to a heading in your document:

Place the insertion pointer in a heading or paragraph.

Click the Borders command button and choose Top Border from the menu.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Drawing a fat, thick line

Sometimes, you need one of those fat, thick lines to break up your text. Choose the Horizontal Line command from the Border menu. Word inserts a thin, inky stroke running from the left to right margins on a line all by itself.

To adjust the horizontal line, click to select it with the mouse. Six “handles” appear (top and bottom and the four corners) around the selected image. You can drag those handles with the mouse to set the line’s width or thickness. Double-clicking the horizontal line displays a Format Horizontal Line dialog box, where further adjustments can be made and color added.

To remove the horizontal line, click once to select it and then press either the Delete or Backspace key.

Boxing text or paragraphs

You can stick a box around any spate of words or paragraphs:

Select the text you want to box in.

Choose the Borders and Shading command from the bottom of the Border menu.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

The Borders and Shading dialog box appears.

If you want to apply the border to only text (words) and not to the entire paragraph, choose Text from the Apply To drop-down list.

Select a box style from the Setting column: Box, Shadow, or 3-D.

Boxing a title

Someday when you’re tasked with creating an organizational newsletter, you can surprise all your friends and others who were smart enough to avoid that task by coming up with a fancy title, similar to the following newsletter heading. It looks complex and such, but it’s nothing more than the crafty application of borders plus some deft text, paragraph, and tab stop skills.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

The key to creating such a heading is to type the text first and then use the Borders and Shading dialog box to add different border styles above and below the paragraphs.

Use the Preview window in the Borders and Shading dialog box to set the line style. Click the mouse in the Preview window to add or remove lines above or below or to either side of the text.

To listen to music on your iPod, you first need to copy any tracks that you’ve saved on your computer to Apple’s music player.

To do this, you will need a copy of Apple’s music program iTunes. Here, you’ll be shown a simple way of transferring your music to iTunes.

It’s assumed that you already have iTunes installed and that you already know how to add music to it. If not, see our guides How to download iTunes and How to add songs to iTunes.

You’ll need:

  • a computer with access to the internet, ideally through a broadband connection
  • an email account
  • iTunes installed on the computer.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to add music to your iPod

Step 1: Your iPod will have come with a cable that will enable you to connect it to your computer. You’ll find that the smaller end will easily plug into the iPod. The other end is a USB connection that will plug into your computer.

Step 2: When your iPod is detected, iTunes should automatically load up. If not, start iTunes by double-clicking on the iTunes icon on your desktop. Alternatively, click Start, hover over ‘All Programs’, find iTunes on that list and click it.

Step 3: Open the File menu and select Devices in the menu.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Step 4: There will be a number of headings at the top of the page. Click Music.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Step 5: You now have a choice: to copy your entire music library or to select playlists, artists, albums and/or genres from a list that’s presented to you. Be sure that you have enough space on your iPod to install whatever music you select.

If you tick Entire Music Library, move on to Step 7.

Step 6: Otherwise, tick ‘Selected laylists, artists, albums, and…’ and put a tick by all the ‘Playlists’ and/or ‘Artists’ that you want to transfer to your iPod.

Step 7: Click Sync. (‘Sync’ is short for ‘synchronise’ – you’re matching what you have on your computer to what’s on the iPod.)

Step 8: If you want to disconnect the iPod, click the eject arrow to the right of the iPod listing under ‘Devices’.

The Castle of Lions

As you floated around in space, a giant white, trimmed with blue, space ship that looked awesome came flying towards you and you started waving frantically hoping to get its attention so you could be rescued. Fortunately, it did see you and opened the hangar and you drifted in. When the door shut you took off your helmet and breathed normally. You were safe. Hopefully.

Soon enough, a bunch of very strange looking people walked in. The one leading the way looked like he was in his early 20s. He had black hair and the sides were shaved shorter than the top and a longer white bunch at the front. He had on uniform like the rest but the coloured bits were black. He had a serious but kind look on his face and a scar across his nose.

Following him was a friendly looking guy, around 17, with the same uniform armour stuff with yellow. He had dark hair and dark skin. He had a yellow bandana tied around his head and he waved and gave you a friendly smile. Next to him was a person, around 15, though they were small for their age. You couldn’t tell if they were male or female but they had the same armour still, with green.

Behind them was a guy with blue armour, short, brown hair and middle tan skin. He gave you a flirty grin and then realised that you were much younger than him. He was around 18. You were 12.

Next to him was a girl with pointy ears, pink markings under her eyes and white hair pulled into a bun that complimented her dark skin. She had on the pink uniform, armour thing. And finally, behind her, was a guy, maybe in his 50s? I don’t know – with ginger hair, a ginger mustache that looked fabulous, and a bunch of mice on his shoulder. He also had pointy ears and markings under his eyes, except his were blue.

“Hello, my name is Shiro, this is Hunk, Pidge, Lance, Allura and Coran. Welcome to the castle of lions.” said the first guy, pointing at each of the people when saying their names.

“Yes, welcome. But what is your name?” asked the Allura person.

“(Y/N).” you said, not knowing where that came from. “my name is (Y/N).” you said, suddenly sure of it.

“Where did you come from?” asked Pidge.

“My ship was about to crash so I ejected and was just floating around in space until you found me.”

“Wait, are you part of the Blade of Marmora?” Shiro asked, just realising that you were in the Blades uniform.

“What?” you were seriously confused at this point.

After they had explained what the Blade was and said that Keith, a member of their team, was with them and that every member of the Blade has a, well, a blade. You pulled out your dagger and everyone gasped.

” It’s identical to Keith’s!!” Hunk exclaimed.

“Alright guys, I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything.” Shiro said trying to get everyone to calm down.

“But Shiro! No two blades are the same!” Pidge said

“Okay, we can figure this out later. We have bigger problems to worry about right now.” Shiro said, gesturing at you.

Once you had been given a room, everyone decided that it would be best if you stayed with them in the castle. You were given a tour of the castle that went something like this:

“what does this do? What’s that? Oooh! What’s this?”

“Can you let me finish?!”

“does this do anything? Where’s the bathroom? I’m hungry. How do you stay clean because you only have one set of clothes and your paladin armour?” how do you brush your teeth? What does this do? “

” DON’T TOUCH THAT!! “

One every one was settled and all the questions were answered, you all sat down to enjoy a lovely dinner that was;

Why show off your messy living room when you can video chat from the beach or the Starship Enterprise?

Millions of people have taken to the Zoom video chat app to work and study from home during the coronavirus pandemic . And many have discovered a fun little setting that transforms your video background from the room behind you to outer space or the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. You can even upload a photo to customize your own.

For the most part, Zoom — which has seen a tremendous rise in use as a result of states mandating shelter-in-place and other measures — will hold onto your background image pretty well. It can make for a fun way to express yourself, or hide the cluttered room behind you. After all, you may want participants to focus on you, rather than your curio collection.

For more like this

Just be aware that you do need to make sure your system has the right requirements to change your Zoom background. And if you tend to gesture a lot or rock back in your chair, or a wayward pup or child lands on your lap during your call, your caller will notice breaks in the background. Don’t worry, they’ll resolve shortly. (You should also be aware of potential security issues like Zoombombing during your video chat, and take steps to lock down your Zoom account .)

What’s more fun than beaming into conference calls from outer space?

Change your Zoom background on the desktop app

1. In the Zoom app, click your profile in the top right corner, and click Settings.

2. On the menu to the left, click Virtual Background.

3. You’ll see a few default background options provided by Zoom, including an outer space scene or blades of grass. You can choose one of those by clicking on it, and it will automatically change your screen as well. There’s also an option for if you have a green screen and want to use that.

4. If you want to upload a photo to use as your background, on the same Virtual Background Page, click the + icon next to where it says Choose Virtual Background. A box will pop up allowing you to upload a photo from your computer. Click on the one you want, and it will appear alongside the other pictures as an option for you to choose from.

5. To get rid of any photos you upload, tap the X in their top left corner.

Change your Zoom background on the mobile app

1. When you log into your account and join a meeting, tap the three dots at the bottom right of the screen to open the More menu.

2. Tap Virtual Background.

3. Select a background from the default options, or upload your own.

Example Explained

We have styled the dropdown button with a background-color, padding, hover effect, etc.

The .dropdown class uses position:relative , which is needed when we want the dropdown content to be placed right below the dropdown button (using position:absolute ).

The .dropdown-content class holds the actual dropdown menu. It is hidden by default, and will be displayed on hover (see below). Note the min-width is set to 160px. Feel free to change this. Tip: If you want the width of the dropdown content to be as wide as the dropdown button, set the width to 100% (and overflow:auto to enable scroll on small screens).

Instead of using a border, we have used the box-shadow property to make the dropdown menu look like a “card”. We also use z-index to place the dropdown in front of other elements.

Building relationships with recruiters may expose you to career opportunities that you might not learn about otherwise. Most employers don’t advertise the positions they hire recruiters to help fill, which are typically a firm’s most senior and highest-paying. And search executives usually promote their services to employers, not job hunters.

Identifying and connecting with recruiters who specialize in your area of expertise can be very worthwhile — though candidates should remember that recruiters are paid by the employer, and will put that employer’s interests first. Such niche recruiters aren’t always easy to find, so job seekers might need to use creative tactics.

Here are some ways of identifying recruiters who specialize in your area of expertise.

Start by tapping your own network. Many senior executives work with recruiters at some point in their careers as a candidate or client. Ask the most experienced professionals in your network to refer you to the recruiters they know.

Other sources are people you know in your industry or at organizations that interest you. Find out which recruiting firms their employers use. Don’t be discouraged if the list you compile is short. In certain niche markets, there are recruiters who pretty much work with all big players, so you’ll typically hear the same name several times.

A good way to stay on a recruiter’s radar screen is to suggest names of prospects you know for jobs the recruiter is seeking to fill, but for which you don’t qualify. Be sure to offer quality referrals because inappropriate recommendations can reflect poorly on you.

Scan recruiter directories. Your local library may have these resources available at no charge.

RileyGuide.com, a free online job-search resource, has a listing of recruiter directories, some free to users online, such as Oya’s Directory of Recruiters, among others. Most fee-based directories are more up-to-date and offer better search options.

Kennedy Information Inc. publishes RecruiterRedbook.com, the online database version of its book “The Directory of Executive Recruiters 2007-2008.” Both cost $59.95 and list 16,500 recruiters at more than 5,700 search firms. The database comes as an annual subscription. Kennedy, based in Peterborough, N.H., also publishes SelectRecruiters.com, offering a downloadable spreadsheet, handy for mass mailing a resume to recruiters, for a one-time fee of $1 per spreadsheet and a minimum payment of $30. (Kennedy is a business partner of CareerJournal.com.)

BlueSteps.com, from the Association of Executive Search Consultants, includes a database of more than 4,000 recruiters from its member firms, along with other features. Access to the database costs $299 for two years, among other pricing options.

You can also search for recruiters’ profiles online. Many recruiters have profiles on networking sites such as LinkedIn.com, Ecademy.com and Doostang.com. To find them, do a keyword search or ask fellow members for referrals.

LinkedIn.com, for instance, carries about 90,000 recruiter profiles and most list a specialty. It’s free to join and search the site, though other features require paid membership. To find recruiters’ profiles, click on the “advanced search” tool at the top of the home page for members. In the Industry category, select “corporate services,” then choose “staffing and recruiting.” Enter a keyword, such as the recruiter specialty you’re seeking, and then hit “search.”

Message boards may have postings that relate to specialists in your search area. Check career-networking sites. In addition, job hunters can seek recruiter referrals on boards hosted by their trade association, professional society or alma mater.

Members of Netshare.com, a networking Web site for executives, frequently post queries for referrals on its discussion boards. (Netshare is a business partner of CareerJournal.com.) Netshare, a membership organization based in Novato, Calif., costs $40 a month to $360 a year to join. In addition to career-related groups, job hunters can seek recruiter referrals on boards hosted by their trade association, professional society or alma mater.

Remember to read the business press. Recruiters often are quoted in news media. If you read about one who interests you, type the recruiter’s name into a search engine to find his or her contact information.

News stories announcing executive changes can be another source of recruiter leads. They often mention the search firm a company has hired to find a replacement.

Check trade or industry groups for referrals. Many recruiters belong to an association in their specialty. These groups may include a roster of members on their Web sites. If you join, you’ll likely have opportunities to network with recruiter members.

Call top employers in your industry. Dial the main number and request to be transferred to the human-resources department. Then ask the HR employee who answers which search firm the company uses. But this tactic is likely a shot in the dark, as the employee might only give the information if the company was working with a recruiting firm on a search at the time.

Every true fan has a team jersey for their favorite sport, maybe lots of them! Whether you wear them to cheer from the couch or stands or actually participate in a sport, these jerseys are expensive and we want them to last as long as possible. Learn how to keep sports jerseys looking great and make repairs if the letters or numbers begin to peel away.

How to Wash a Team Jersey
    DetergentRegular laundry detergent
    Water TemperatureCold or Warm
    Cycle TypePermanent Press
Drying Cycle TypeDo not machine dry, air-dry only
    Special TreatmentsWash inside out
    Iron SettingsDo not iron

    Project Metrics

Most jerseys are made from polyester or another synthetic fabric. These fabrics are easy to wash and dry but jerseys have the addition of letters and numbers that must be treated with care. The team may be tough but washing your jersey requires a more gentle touch. Take a minute to read the care label. If it says to use cold water, believe it. If it says do not put in the dryer, don’t do it anyway! You’ll be sorry.

    Working time: 15 minutes

    Total time: 2 hours

    Skill level: Beginner

    What You’ll Need

    Supplies

    • Laundry detergent
    • Stain remover (optional)
    • Water

    Tools

    • Washer
    • Soft-bristled brush (optional)
    • Clothesline or drying rack

    Instructions

Pretreat Stains From Snacking or Playing

Pretreat stains like mustard, ketchup, beer, mud, and grass before putting the jersey in the washer. Use an enzyme-based stain remover or a dab of heavy-duty laundry detergent on the stains. Rub in the stain remover with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush and allow it to work for at least 15 minutes before washing.

    Load the Washer

Turn every jersey inside out before adding it to the washer. This will protect the numbers and lettering from abrasion and will make them last longer.

Select the Washer Cycle and Water Temperature

Select the Permanent Press washer cycle to help prevent excessive wrinkling and wear on the letters and numbers. Set the water temperature to cold or warm. Hot water can cause fading, shrinking, and letter damage.

    Drying a Jersey

After removing it from the washer, turn the jersey right side out and give it a shake. This will prevent the lettering from sticking together. For best results, do not put a sports jersey in the dryer. The high heat is too much for the jersey and you may end up with cracked letters or worse, letters stuck together. Dry a jersey flat on a drying rack or hang to air dry.

    Avoid an Ironing Disaster

Avoid ironing because, again, the high temperature can burn holes or melt letters and logos. If you absolutely must iron the jersey, use a pressing cloth and low temperature.

Repair Peeling Letters and Numbers on a Jersey

You’ve done your best but now the letters or numbers on your jersey are curling up and peeling away. Or, the printer misspelled a player’s name. Here’s what to do.

    What You’ll Need

    Supplies

    • White copy paper or notebook paper
    • Acetone-based nail polish remover
    • Cotton swab
    • Matching jersey fabric (optional)
    • New fabric letters or numbers (optional)
    • Matching thread(s) (optional)

    Tools

    • Iron
    • Ironing board
    • Sewing machine

Repair Curling and Peeling Letters and Numbers

Place a freshly-washed jersey on an ironing board with the peeling symbol face up. Set the iron on high with no steam. Position or smooth the symbol back to the way it should be and cover the curling section with a sheet of white notebook or copy paper.

Use just the tip of the iron, never the entire flat bottom surface, over the white paper, and press just the edge of the curling symbol. Begin slowly, with a very short pressing time. Just tap the edge of the iron and the edge of the paper-covered symbol for a few seconds. Gradually increase the time until you see the symbol is sticking again to the fabric. Never allow the iron to actually touch the jersey or letting. Leave the jersey flat on the ironing board until the area is completely cool.

Work on only one problem at a time. When the corrected section is cool, you can move to another area.

    How to Separate Melted Lettering

If the jersey was accidentally put in the dryer on high heat and the letters have melted together, they can be separated to save the jersey. No matter how careful you are, the letters are never going to look perfect. However, this technique will allow you to wear the jersey again without a big hole.

Allow the jersey to cool completely. Dip a cotton swab in acetone (fingernail polish remover) and slowly swab the stuck areas while GENTLY pulling the letters apart. There will be some damage to the letters.

    How to Restore Cracked Lettering

If the numbers and lettering have begun to crack or fade, it is nearly impossible to restore them to their original glory. Some sites recommend using fabric paint to repaint the lettering. You can purchase fabric paint at a craft store or online. However, the repair will never look like the original and can look uneven and amateurish if you don’t do it correctly. Why not wear your well-worn team’s laundry proudly as a sign of years of support?

    How to Correct Misspelled Lettering

Printers make mistakes and sometimes a name is misspelled or a number needs to be changed. It is usually impossible to remove the letters without damaging the fabric. Instead, buy some matching jersey fabric and attach the new numbers or lettering (iron-on or stitched) to the fabric. Then hand- or machine-sew the square or rectangle onto the jersey. It won’t look perfect but it can get a kid through a baseball season. And, it is less expensive than a new jersey.

    Storage

Team jerseys should be washed before storage to avoid difficult-to-remove stains for the next season. They can be folded or hung but should always be kept in a temperature-controlled environment to prevent damage to the lettering.

Samson was without question the school’s star, he was a natural at soccer, he tried to be a team player of course but everyone’s play was the same, kick the ball to Samson, soon Samson became known for “Singlefootedly” carrying his team to victory.

Today was just another day for Samson who was on his way to the space behind the English block to psyche himself up for this afternoon’s game. He was interrupted by Rebecca from the girls soccer team.

    “Hey Sammy,” she called out.

“Don’t call me that,” was Samson’s only response.

“Fine… Hey Samson,” she corrected herself.

    “What do you want?”

“Susan’s ankle is useless after she tried to wear heels on her date, and as you know we don’t have a lot of team mates so there’s no one to take her place.”

    “So why come to me?”

“We could really use your help.”

“What, you automatically assume I know a bunch of girls who play soccer.”

“You know us. But not what I meant. I was hoping you could help us in a more active way.”

“Yeah I’m not dressing up like a girl to play soccer, that was a weird movie.”

Then Rebecca slammed an epipen type object into Samson’s thigh.

“What the hell,” Samson shouted as he pulled it out.

Samson made his way to the space behind the English block, but now it was to check the spot where he’d been stabbed.

Samson’s body went numb and he collapsed just managing to put his hands on the unused bench. Hair started falling out of his sleeves, suddenly his lower ribs cracked inwards and he tried to scream but no sound came out as his voice had stopped working. Following his bones his waist sucked in. His hair rustled slightly as it grew just a few centimetres. His spine suddenly curved back pulling him up as it strengthened itself, next came the pain in his chest as it began to inflate leaving a pair of D cups hanging on his chest. He screwed up his face in pain and when he released it his face no longer quite matched its old look, seeming softer. Next his hips were thrust backwards as the last vestige of his old self was sucked up into his pelvis, as his bottom stuck out from the force of this it began to inflate, not as much his chest had but enough to be noticeable, his hips and thighs grew with it. Finally his hips thrust forwards as a tear ripped open between his legs, this time the scream was audible as his voice returned different to before. Samson started moving his hips around as the tear began to reshape itself and his hips, butt and thighs sculpted themselves.

Samson lay there over the bench gasping for breath as the pain started to fade from her new body.

She sat up and looked down at the stretched out section on the front of her chest, she started taking shallow breaths as she couldn’t breathe properly. After a few minutes Samson pulled herself up and walked, a bit awkwardly as she was trying to fight the natural flow of her new shape, back to where the interaction with Rebecca had taken place.

She raised her fist, subconsciously placed her hand on her hip and yelled “, What the hell did you do.”

Her face flushed at the sound of her new voice and she had to stop talking for a moment to catch her breath. Her new voice was undeniably a girl’s voice but it didn’t sound feminine at all.

“Well, you can’t exactly play for the boy’s team now can you Sammy?”

“Don’t call me that,” Samson told her, turning slightly redder.

    “Fine Delilah it is then.”

“Why would you… never mind I just got it. Wait a minute. FIX ME NOW!”

“I can’t, that was Billie’s invention, she says it’ll take a while to make another, about as long as… it takes for Susan’s ankle to get better.”

    “You are just… evil.”

“And of course, we’ll only give it to you…”

    “I get the picture.”

Rebecca walked up to Samson and undid her top two buttons

“I CAN BREATHE,” Samson gasped for air.

“You’re going to need new clothes.”

The next Monday the newly rechristened Delilah walked into the classroom, she was wearing the fuku uniform top but with her old pants which didn’t really fit over her new hips.

“Hah, my old pants still fit, I guess I didn’t need that stupid skirt you gave me after all.”

    “You sure?” asked Rebecca.

“I’m not wearing a skirt, stop asking.”

There was the sound of tearing from behind Delilah and cheering from the boys in the back of the class.

    “I stand by my statement.”

A very short story based on image drawn by Jayronzski .

I personally like the character I came up with and I can certainly envision future moments of her predicament.

I’ve been working on a website and I’d like to add a small icon to the browser tab.

How can I do this in HTML and where in the code would I need to place it (e.g. header)? I have a .png logo file that I’d like to convert to an icon.

    13 Answers 13

There are actually two ways to add a favicon to a website.

Simply add the following code to the element:

The shortcut link type is often seen before icon , but this link type is non-conforming, ignored and web authors must not use it anymore.

All modern browsers (tested with Chrome 4, Firefox 3.5, IE8, Opera 10 and Safari 4) will always request a favicon.ico unless you’ve specified a shortcut icon via
    .

So all you have to do is to make the /favicon.ico request to your website return your favicon. This option unfortunately doesn’t allow you to use a PNG icon.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

Use a tool to convert your png to a ico file. You can search “favicon generator” and you can find many online tools.

Place the ico address in the head with a link -tag:

The best one that I found is I say best because it gave me the crispest favicon, and required no editing after their transformation. It will generate favicons at 16×16 and 32×32 and to quote them “Every damn size, sir!” Also, their site looks cool and is easy to use.

They also generate the html that you need to use for the files they generate.

I looked at the first 20 or so google results, and this was by far the best.

How to Add a Tomboy Touch to a School Uniform

There are a number of different icons and even splash screens that you can set for various devices. This answer goes through how to support them all.

Here are some snippets I have used with relevant links to where I gathered the information. See my blog for more information and more information about the ASP.NET MVC Boilerplate project template with all this built in right out of the box (Including sample image files).

Add the following mark-up to your html head. The commented out sections are entirely optional. While the uncommented sections are recommended to cover all icon usages. Don’t be scared, most if it is comments to help you.

My browserconfig.xml file. Full explanation above.

My manifest.json file. Full explanation above.

A list of the files in the project (Note that the names of these files are important if you decide to put some of them at the root of your project to avoid using the above meta tags):

    Total Overhead

If you take out the comments that’s 3KB of extra HTML, if you don’t support splash screens that’s 1.5KB. If you are using GZIP compression on your HTML content, which everyone should be doing these days, that leaves you with about 634 Bytes of overhead per request to support all platforms or 446 Bytes without splash screens. I personally think its worth it to support IOS, Android and Windows devices but its your choice, I’m just giving the options!

Side Note About The Current Web Icon/Splash Screen/Settings Situation

This situation with vendor specific icons, splash screens and special tags to control the web browser or pinned icons is ridiculous. In a perfect world we would all use a favicon.svg file which could look good at any size and could be placed at the root of the page. Only FireFox supports this at the time of writing (See CanIUse.com).

However, icons are not the only setting these days, there are several other vendor specific settings (shown above) but a favicon.svg file would cover most use cases.

    Update

Updated to include the new Android/Chrome version M39+ favicon/theming options. Interestingly, they have gone with a similar approach to Microsoft but are using a JSON file instead of XML.

When Google first introduced Chromebooks in 2011, it seemed like a ridiculous idea. A laptop that can only run a browser? Who wants that? But over time, web apps slowly became more powerful and capable, while Google steadily improved the Chrome OS experience. Then, Google went even further and added the ability to run Android apps, and still further with Linux desktop apps.

All of this means the Chromebooks of 2019 and 2020 are nothing like that original experience. Today, Chrome OS feels like a modern operating system that offers a first-class web browser, the flexibility of mobile apps, and a desktop experience in one box. It can satisfy the needs of almost every user, with the notable exception of those who need video or advanced image editing.

If you set your Chromebook up right, that is. Let’s get that done.

    1. Get to know ChromeOS

A Chromebook desktop with Chrome OS 76.

Chrome OS has some basic similarities with other desktop systems. Just like Windows, Linux, and OS X, there’s a desktop area that you can customize with your own background image. But unlike the desktop in other systems, you cannot place any files here. It’s merely a visual space where you can arrange open windows.

When you open an app it will open in a new window if it’s an Android app, desktop app, or web app that you’ve set-up to launch in its own window. Otherwise, you’re opening a tab in the main browser. Open windows can be resized or split to take up half the display like in other systems, though some Linux desktop apps may not respond to these commands.

You’ll probably notice right away that your keyboard has a search icon where the caps lock key should be. This search key is a way to search your devices, apps, and the web in one spot. It’s also a way to see every app on your system.

To begin, tap the key, and a Google Assistant box pops up at the bottom of the screen with some of your recently used apps. Click the upward-facing arrow above the search box to get a view of everything you have available.

Most apps will appear here just as they would on an Android phone, but Linux apps are grouped together.

The Chrome OS Files app in version 76.

One system-critical Chromebook app is Files. This is the Chrome OS file manager that lets you access files saved on your system, view the contents of a ZIP folder, or access items in Google Drive.

The last point of interest in our system tour is the lower-right corner of the taskbar-like Shelf, called the system tray. (More on the Shelf later.) The first thing you’ll see is a small counter that tells you how many notifications you have. Click it, and you can view and clear your notifications.

The system tray in Chrome OS 76.

Next to that are a clock, Wi-Fi status, and a battery life indicator. Click this area, and a panel appears with basic system settings, including Wi-Fi, VPN, Bluetooth, Night Light, volume, screen brightness, a shutdown button, and more

Selecting the cog icon in this section opens your Chromebook’s settings window. Here you can access system settings for the touchpad, mouse, keyboard, display, and onboard storage.

Finally, to access your Chromebook’s task manager, click Search + Esc. This shortcut used to be Shift + Esc, but Google is phasing it out.

    2. Set up your shelf

When you first open your Chromebook, you’ll see several app icons sitting at the bottom of the screen. This area is called the Shelf, and it mimics the Windows taskbar. The Chrome OS Shelf shows which apps are running and provides an easy way to launch apps.

To make the Chromebook your own you’ll want to add your commonly used apps to the Shelf, and remove the ones you don’t use. To get rid of something, hover your mouse pointer over the app icon in question, tap the touchpad with two fingers (the equivalent of a right-click), and select Unpin from the context menu that appears.

Adding a website to the shelf in Chrome OS.

The easiest way to add web apps is to open the site you want in the browser. Next, right-click the webpage tab—it looks like three vertical dots—and select More tools > Create shortcut. . A small pop-up window appears asking you to confirm that you want to add the web app. If you want a desktop-like experience for the web app, check the box that says Open as window, and then click Create.

To rearrange apps on the shelf, click and drag them to the desired position.

    3. Smartphone unlock

To open a Chromebook, you need to sign in with your Google account password. That’s easy enough, but if you have an Android phone this process can become even easier. Your phone can automatically unlock your computer without a password via Bluetooth.

To set this up, click the clock in the lower right corner of your desktop and select Settings. Next, in the left rail select Connected devices, then in the main window click Set up in the Android phone section.

A new window will pop-up displaying your phone by brand or nickname. If you recently switched phones it may take a few days for your Chromebook to recognize the new phone. If everything is set click Accept & continue, then enter your password and click Done. Finally, back in the Settings window, confirm that the slider next to your phone is enabled. If not, activate the slider and enter your password to confirm.

Now when your phone is near your Chromebook it should automatically unlock.

    4. Modify Google Sync

Decide what you want to sync with Google’s servers and turn on encryption.

One of Chrome’s key features is the ability to sync your recently opened tabs, browsing history, bookmarks, extensions, passwords, and other items across multiple devices. This syncing works on any device that runs Chrome—including computers, smartphones, and tablets—as long as you’re signed into your Google account.

Syncing’s on by default with Chromebooks, but you can control which items are synced and which aren’t. Go to Settings, and then in the left-hand rail select People > Sync.

The next screen shows all the various items that are synced. Turn off Sync everything at the top, and then deactivate anything you don’t want shared with other devices.

Next page: Helpful controls, customizing your system, and more.
