On 24 November 2019, Goo was found dead at her home in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam District in Seoul, South Korea. by her manager. The cause of death was ruled as a possible suicide because police found a suicide note written by Hara.

Goo was born in Gwangju, South Korea, and her parents separated when she was 8 years old after her mother ditched the family. Goo and her brother were raised by her grandmother while their father was working as a construction worker. Goo went to Woonchun Elementary School and Jeonnam Middle School for schooling education

On 24 November 2019, Goo was seen on CCTV footage returning home at 12:40 am, with no other visitors except for the housekeeper who found Hara’s body at 6 p.m. the same day. The autopsy was not performed after the police asked the prosecutor in charge and took into thought her family’s request.

The body pg Goo was handed over to her family on 26 November 2019. Hara’s death occurred more than a month after her close friend and fellow idol Sulli had committed suicide. Goo’s funeral was confidentially held at Gangnam Severance Hospital by close ones including family members and friends.

While a separate memorial service for fans took place on 25 – 26 November at The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Gangnam, South Korea.
