In two fairytale wedding gowns, Sophie Simmons, daughter of KISS rocker Gene Simmons and actress Shannon Tweed-Simmons, wed her lifelong boyfriend James Henderson.
In front of 50 friends and family members on February 22, the pair, who first became acquainted when Henderson served her at a restaurant in 2014, exchanged vows in a private ceremony at her mother’s Malibu home.
Sophie added that her mother had a say in the location of the celebration. She explained, “I had a smaller location in mind, but mom ixnay-ed it. She remarked, “It ain’t it.” The pair ultimately chose to host the celebration at Delilah in West Hollywood.
Family
On August 25, 1949, at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Israel, to Jewish emigrants from Hungary, Simmons was born as Chaim Witz. His mother, Florence Klein, was born in Jánd and lived through internment in Nazi concentration camps.
She passed away in 2018 at the age of 92. The only members of the family to escape the Holocaust were she and her brother, Larry Klein. Ferenc “Feri” Yehiel Witz, Simmons’ father (1925–2002), was a woodworker. Simmons was raised in a practising Jewish home and lived his early years in Tirat Carmel.
Career
When Simmons was an adolescent, he joined his first band, Lynx, which later changed its name to the Missing Links. Eventually, he disbanded the group and started a new one with the punny moniker Long Island Sounds.
He did odd jobs to supplement his income while playing in these bands, such as trading used comic books. In Loch Sheldrake, New York, Simmons attended Sullivan County Community College.
He joined Bullfrog Bheer, a new band, and the group recorded a demo called “Leeta,” which was later featured on the Kiss box set. Early in the 1970s, Simmons and Stanley Eisen (later known as Paul Stanley) started the rock group Wicked Lester. They only ever completed one album, which was never released.
