Fans Believe Russell Crowe And Gerard Butler Have A Similar Appearance
If you’ve ever searched the Internet for the best historical action movies, Gladiator and 300 are almost certainly on the list. As fans and critics categorize these two films, they also give their thoughts on the two main actors. Discussions have ranged from mistaking the actors for the same person to treating them as twins in a movie.
In Gladiator, Australian star Russell Crowe plays Maximus, and in 300, Scottish actor Gerard Butler plays Leonidas. Crowe and Butler were mistaken for the same thing despite the fact that they were two separate actors.
Fans believe that so are Russell Crowe and Gerard Butler.
“I am constantly mistaken for Clive Owen or Russell Crowe,” the 300 actors commented in a 2016 interview with Esquire UK. “God, if someone told me how much they admire me in Gladiators…” Gerard blurted out in disappointment.
Crowe, on the other hand, has never admitted to having similar interactions. Aside from any real-life incidents the actors may have encountered, many netizens felt confused by the two actors. “Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe look exactly the same and sometimes I still get confused trying to figure out who is who when watching either of them in a movie,” one Twitter user commented.
“Did you notice the similarity?” user asked, with photos of the two actors side by side. “Can we please speak to Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe!” someone else tweeted. I think it’s the same individual in every movie. “Aren’t they father and son?” a comment was read. One fan sarcastically commented in response to Bulter’s 2018 film Den of Thieves, “Gerard Butler’s transformation into Russell Crowe is astounding.” Fans have devised movie scripts for the actor to play the main character, besides arguing about appearance. There is also a subreddit called “Who else would watch a movie starring Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe as identical brothers?” Guaranteed surprise!

Crowe and Bulter’s bodies have changed since they portrayed their classic roles. When playing Maximus in Gladiator, Crowe had a sculpted six-pack (2000). When the star was seen in 2020, his abs gave way to a growing belly. His change was made public. But it turned out that the actor did not give up his workout routine. In the thriller Unhinged, he gained weight to play the role of a deranged stalker. The Oscar-winning actor is no stranger to changing his appearance to suit the job.
To play Roger Ailes, the former president and chief executive officer of Fox News, in the series The Loudest Voice, he had to put on weight and wear a fat suit. Crowe, 58, is said to want to stay out of the limelight until he gets back into shape. Butler’s Leonidas has an 8-pack, not a 6-pack. The London Has Fallen star said: ‘It’s the best body I’ve ever had in my life.
His 300-minute routine includes two hours of CrossFit-style workouts, two hours of bodybuilding, and two hours of fight choreography. He continued: “I hurt my body in certain ways, but I look great doing it. Nearly two decades later, the actor has lost his sculpted abs. Butler, 52, looks healthy and somewhat muscular.
