Evolution return for season 2? Future of drama series

Since 2005, Criminal Minds has explored countless cold-blooded killers and criminals. In the latest installment, the subtitled series Evolution, one killer takes center stage. With the recent airing of the finale, many are itching to know, will Criminal Minds: Evolution return for season 2?

Created by Jeff Davis, the Criminal Minds: Evolution finale premiered on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

The crime drama aired on Paramount+ in the US and Disney+ in the UK. The ten-episode season wrapped up in dramatic fashion, leaving many questions unanswered.

The subtitled series essentially works as season 16 of Criminal Minds, which initially wrapped in 2020 after 15 seasons.

In season 16, an elite team of FBI criminal profilers is faced with a new pandemic-based problem as they uncover an online network of serial killers, set to unleash murder on the world as society opens back up.

The series sees the return of fan-favorite characters like Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) and Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A. J. Cook). Alongside these two, Joe Mantegna plays the role of Agent David Rossi. Kirsten Vangsness also returns as the quirky Penelope Garcia.

Will Criminal Minds: Evolution return for season 2?

Yes.

Criminal Minds: Evolution was renewed in January 2023 for a second season, according to a report from Variety.

Season 17 of Criminal minds will consist of 10 episodes. There is no confirmed release date for the series.

The renewal of Criminal Minds: Evolution will see season 17 of the series no doubt bring back the FBI team with the possibility of continuing certain plotlines surrounding the “Gold Star” mystery.

Actress and star of the series Paget Brewster took to social media to confirm that production for season 17 of Criminal Minds would begin in two months:

Guys, we are coming back so fast it’ll make your head spin. Because of you! We start shooting in 2 months, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

“We got to live in the creepy moments a bit more”

In an interview with TV Line, showrunner Erica Messer discusses how the network and the Gold Star mystery will be their “jump-start into the next season, for sure”.

The showrunner also confirms that audiences have not seen the last of Evoluton’s main killer. An exciting revelation, one that is bound to keep fans holding out until the next installment. She also confirms the return of the entire main cast.

When reflecting on the newfound R-rating for the series, Messer discussed how they played with the language. “I always knew I didn’t want to do Criminal Minds: After Dark and all of a sudden, we’re R-rated with nudity and that kind of thing.” She continued, “The language was always going to be the thing that felt more authentic.”

This is certainly true of Joe Mantegna’s character, who audiences will notice says his fair share of curse words.
