The movie Drishyam begins with Ajay Devgn's character, Vijay Salgaonkar, waiting at a police station in Goa called Pandolem. The story then shifts to the past and recounts the events that led up to Vijay's current situation. Vijay is a middle-class businessman who failed to complete the fourth grade. He works hard and runs a cable TV business, and his family consists of his wife Nandini Vijay Salgaonkar, his teenage daughter Ishita Dutta, and his younger daughter. Their lives are going well until Vijay's elder daughter encounters a notorious man named Sam during a school camp. Despite being warned multiple times, Sam continues to harass Vijay's daughter and even goes as far as installing a hidden camera in her bathroom. Sam seized this opportunity to demand sexual favors from Vijay's daughter in exchange for deleting the incriminating video. When Nandini, Vijay's wife, tries to intervene, Sam shifts his focus toward her and demands sexual favors from her instead. In a fit of anger and helplessness, Vijay's daughter hits Sam with a rod, causing him to collapse. The situation becomes even more shocking when Nandini and her daughter discover that Sam is the only son of IG Meera Deshmukh (Tabu). Feeling scared and powerless, Nandini and her daughter tell Vijay about their traumatic experience after he comes home from work the next morning. To protect his family from the police, Vijay devises a brilliant plan. The rest of the movie follows the tense game of cat and mouse between Vijay and Meera, as Vijay tries to outsmart the police officer. Will Vijay, a man who failed to complete the fourth grade, be able to keep his family safe? Will his plan be flawless or will it be exposed? And what will happen to Sam in the end? All of these questions make up the remainder of the story.
