Disgusting moment giant rat runs loose around Wasabi branch before horrified diner boots it out into the street

SHOCKED diners were forced to take action after a rat ran loose in a sushi chain and staff in the restaurant failed to do anything.

As customers rushed for the exits after a large rodent was spotted in the London Bridge branch of Wasabi one brave punter stepped up and booted the rodent into the street.

Video footage shows the commotion as the rat scuttles across the floor in the busy food joint.

A shocked onlooker claims staff didn’t seem to care as the rat ran wild on Thursday evening.

Wasabi has today released CCTV footage showing the rat strayed in from the outside and was only in the restaurant for a "matter of seconds".

The diner, who asked not to be identified, said: “I saw a really big rat inside the store.

“Everyone there was jumping up and down but the rat was just taking a stroll really causally.

“The staff didn’t do anything at all and one of the customers had to kick it out.”

A Wasabi spokesman said: "We take pest control very seriously across all of our Wasabi stores.

"Our branches are audited regularly by a pest control inspector and our teams are trained in pest prevention measures.

"In regards to the Borough High Street incident, the rat strayed in from the outside, which is clear on the store’s CCTV footage.

"It remained in the store for seconds before being driven out.
