David Georgia state government’s second most powerful leader during his 13 years leading the 180-member House.
He was first elected to the Georgia Senate in 1992, and in 1998 he lost a race for attorney’s general to Democrat Thurbert Baker, and then he was elected to the House in 2002.

David Ralston 73rd Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives passed away on Wednesday 16th November. McMichen said in a statement that only that Ralston had died after “an extended illness.”
David, who has held the office since 2010, recently announced that he would retire due to health issues.
Will not seek re-election as a speaker due to related issues.

“Speaker David Ralston, 73rd Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, passed away today following an extended illness. He was 68 years old. His loving wife, Sheree, their children, and members of the family were with him when he passed. At the time of his passing, Speaker Ralston was the longest currently-serving state house speaker in the country.”
