Crews remain at Davenport water-main break area
Iowa American Water asks drivers to avoid the area of Harrison Street and Central Park Avenue, Davenport, where water-main break repairs continues.
The break was discovered late Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, crews replaced a valve at the site and were wrapping up repairs to the water-main break there.
An Iowa American Water spokesperson told Our Quad Cities News the weather conditions overnight created some safety concerns for crews because of bitterly cold temperatures and mounds of snow along the roadway.
Water service was being restored Wednesday afternoon to impacted customers.
On Thursday morning, a concrete contractor will be on site to pour temporary concrete patches in the excavations that were made. Full restoration work of the roadway will be completed in the spring.
Iowa American expects the entire roadway – all lanes – on Harrison Street will be re-opened on Friday and, in the meantime, asks drivers to avoid the area and take an alternate route if possible for drivers’ safety and the safety of workers still onsite.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to customers and motorists by these emergency repairs, and thank our crew for their safety focus, hard work and dedication in making emergency repairs in these dangerous weather conditions,” the spokesperson said.
