Clinton County approves new boilers for Administrative Building

Things are chilly in the Clinton’s Administrative Building, but new boilers are on the way.

The Clinton County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting on January 18 to approve purchasing three new boilers for the city’s Administrative Building. One boiler failed and replacement parts are unavailable. Another boiler began alarming recently, while the final boiler isn’t big enough to heat the building by itself.

Board members learned they could get a discount by replacing all three boilers. Several years ago, the Board received a quote of between $225,000 and $250,000 to replace them, but three Apex 825C boilers were located in Des Moines and held until the Board could vote. The price for replacing the boilers with the newer models came in at $98,189, installed. The city will save $6,000 by replacing all three at the same time.

The two boilers experiencing issues were installed in 2009 and the other was installed in 2012. Clinton will send staff members to Des Moines tomorrow to pick up the boilers; delivery wouldn’t have been available until the end of next week. Northwest Mechanical says they’ll be able to install at least one boiler on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
