Chicago, DuSable Car Accident: Two individuals lost their lives while four others sustained injuries during a devastating collision involving two cars on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the Douglas neighbourhood on Monday night, as confirmed by the authorities.
According to the Chicago police, the incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. when a 49-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Bolt southbound attempted to change lanes in the 3000 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Regrettably, his vehicle collided with a Nissan Altima, which subsequently careened into a tree and burst into flames in the median of the road.
Tragically, the driver of the Nissan, identified as 24-year-old Jalean Ewing-Gibbs, and the front-seat passenger, Jaida Rosado Colon, also 24, were rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Centre but were pronounced dead, according to both the police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The autopsies conducted on Ewing-Gibbs, residing in the 1700 block of North Meade Avenue, and Colon, living in the 1400 block of North Fairfield Avenue, revealed that their deaths resulted from multiple injuries sustained during the accident, the medical examiner’s office confirmed.
Furthermore, two 21-year-old women who were passengers in the Nissan were transported in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, as per the authorities’ statement.
The Chevrolet involved in the collision also swerved off the road, crashing into a median. Although the driver declined medical attention, they were apprehended at the scene by law enforcement, according to the details in the police report.
Subsequently, two passengers of the Chevrolet, a 39-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, were taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, as confirmed by the police.
