Bodycam video shows officer narrowly missing being hit by alleged drunk driver

Over the weekend, an alleged drunk driver narrowly missed seriously injuring a Johnston Police Officer as he was conducting a routine traffic stop.

The bodycam video of the incident is attached, and shows the officer clearing himself from the roadway just prior to an intoxicated driver crashing into the back of a Johnston police vehicle.

Photos of the damaged vehicles are included as well.
 
The driver of the vehicle was charged with OWI.
 
The Johnston Police Department believes this incident is a powerful example of the dangers of drinking and driving and the inherent risks our officers face each day to ensure the safety of the public.
