Thrawn is easily one of the most popular characters in all of the Star Wars extended universe, and though his Legends books are beloved as well, the self-titled novel marks his introduction to Canon. Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the brilliant read offers a look at the inner workings of the Galactic Empire.
Thrawn, which is the first of a trilogy and eventually followed by another book trilogy, is also perhaps good homework for the next phase of Star Wars TV and film watching, as he's set to be a major character in the Ahsoka series and possibly even Dave Filoni's film.
