Backstroke Ending Explained: Did Amber And Jake Make It Out Alive Of The Forest?
The thrill of making irrational decisions as a teenager for the fun of it is something everyone has done in their life for once. Often time decisions are made without thinking, leading the decision-maker to fall prey to life-threatening situations. The dangers out in the world are far more horrifying than a teenager would have imagined; thus, risking their lives for a moment of fun isn’t worth it.
Directed by Robbie Barclay, the short film showcased the story of two teenagers making an irrational decision for moments of fun and then falling into a game of deception and lies. The teenager has to work their way to make it out alive. Produced by Luc La’mour, Backstroke tells the story of two runaway teenagers who makes the decision to steal a car and go on a one-day trip to Florida to enjoy their day, but things soon take a turn for the worse after a mysterious man makes an appearance with unknown intentions.

The short film has been garnering publicity and viewers’ attention after a small snippet with incorrect captions was shared by Tik-Tokers. The snippets of the short film had been creating waves, thus making viewers return to the Alter channel to watch again. Backstroke deserves all the praise and attention it is receiving from the public for the perfect execution of the scenes and the brilliant performance given by Tom Hanks and Christoffersen. Backstroke has a runtime of 10 minutes, with the focus being on the lead character, and they’re surrounding the whole time.

Backstroke Ending Explained:
Backstroke focuses on the tumultuous journey of Jack and Amber, two runaway teenagers who make the decision to feel in control of their lives by stealing a car and going on a trip to Florida. The duo embarks on an adventurous journey filled with thrill and dangers. Their wholesome plan spirals out of control within moments of their trip. Jake and Amber’s journey becomes a nightmare as they find themselves in a sinister game with deception in every step they take.
Backstroke begins with a voice recording sent by Amber’s parents asking her to come back home and talk about the reason for her running away as Amber and Jake plan to steal a car parked in the driveway of a house. Jake and Amber, fueled by youthful rebellion, embark on their journey to Florida after successfully stealing a car. The duo hit the open road to reach their destination as they dreamt of an exhilarating journey ahead. Jake and Amber relish their newfound freedom with loud music blaring in the car as they sped on their way to Florida during nighttime.
A twist awaits their fate as the duo stops in the middle of the forest to rest before continuing their journey to Florida. Amber sleeps in the car only to find Jake missing from the car when she wakes up. Amber finds Jake standing outside the car, enjoying the view as he licks a lollipop. Amber questions him whether they have reached Florida or not, as she can smell the ocean. Jake answers her query by informing her that Florida is a long way ahead of them.
The duo bicker playfully as Amber questions Jake if he knows where they are heading. To see if the car has a map in it, Amber opens the dashboard of the car only to discover a gun and no map. She informs Jake of her discovery, and the two begin to play with the loaded gun, with Amber making the first shot. Amber playfully asks Jake to get down on his knees and close his eyes at gunpoint as she starts to run towards the nearby water body to enjoy skinny dipping.
Jake begins to run after Amber as she rushes toward the lake, gleefully shrieking with joy. The twist occurs when a mysterious man emerges from the shadows of the woods. As Amber is enjoying her swim by backstroking in the lake, the mysterious man appears and starts asking strange questions. Amber tries to deflect his questions and informs him about Jake being there for her to know the true intentions of the man and scare him away.
Her deflection doesn’t work as the man becomes more persistent in his approach and begins to come closer to Amber. Amber successfully reaches her clothes and changes into them before returning from the lake to find Jake.
Did Amber And Jake Make It Out Of The Woods?
Amber makes a run into the work, screaming Jake’s name to find him so the duo can make it out alive in the woods. Jake doesn’t answer Amber calling out his name thus, she presumes Jake has died in the woods as the mysterious man we saw earlier in the film interacting with Amber has warned her about Jake being dead. The fear Amber felt at the moment and the adrenaline rush she had to make it out alive had her make another irrational decision.
It can be assumed the approaching hands were of the mysterious man as he had previously interrogated Amber about the location of her car. The mysterious man had also successfully planted the seed of doubt in Ambers’s mind about Jake being dead with the intention of her falling for the bait and trying to drive off in her car. As Jake’s call is seen incoming on Amber’s cell by the viewers, it is safe to assume Jake has made it out alive and Amber has let her irrational fear take over her presence of mind, thus endangering her.
Amber made a series of wrong decisions that led to her life being in jeopardy. The short film tells the viewers about the consequences their impulsive actions and decisions can have. The short movie portrayed the story of teenage rebellion perfectly.
