Alix West Lefler Interview: The Good Nurse

Based on the true story of Amy Loughren, a single mom who unmasks a serial killer, comes the new thriller The Good Nurse. The film is currently available to stream on Netflix and is adapted from the book by Charles Graeber. Struggling to provide for her family and treat her own life-threatening heart condition, Amy turns to fellow night nurse Charlie for support. But after a series of sudden deaths, Amy begins to suspect that the person she trusts most may be the one murdering her patients. The cast includes Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne, Nnamdi Asomugha, Kim Dickens, Malik Yoba, Alix West Lefler, and Noah Emmerich.

Actress Alix West Lefler plays Alex Loughren, one of Amy’s two daughters. Alix began acting at the age of seven and can be seen in television series such as Freeform’s Siren and The CW’s Riverdale. She has also booked appearances on The Good Doctor and Resident Alien. Her latest project, My Life with the Walter Boys, is an upcoming drama series produced by Netflix. The show is yet to have a definitive release date.

Alix West Lefler chats exclusively with Screen Rant about working with Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne on The Good Nurse and her wonderful experience on set despite the harrowing truth behind the film.

Alix West Lefler Talks The Good Nurse

Screen Rant: The Good Nurse made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, so how are you feeling? Are you excited?

Alix West Lefler: I am very excited that it came out at the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s premiering in Canada, which is where I’m from, and I’m also super excited for it to come out because I really want everybody else to see it.

You’re also young to be dealing with the heavy topic of this film. How was your experience on set?

Alix West Lefler: It is quite a heavy topic. But I’m going to be honest, I was in most of the scenes with Eddie and Jessica, which made it a much easier experience. In most of the scenes, I was just seeing the nice, funny, and wonderful side of Charlie and I didn’t really know about the crimes that he was committing in the hospital. My experience with Jessica and Eddie made it a lot better.

How long did it take for you to film all your scenes?

Alix West Lefler: It took two months to film everything, but I did have a month break in between. They asked if I wanted to stay in Connecticut or go home, so we stayed, and I asked if Netflix could fly out my dad to Connecticut. They said yes, and my dad came out.

You just talked about this a little, but Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne are both well-known actors. Did you enjoy working with them?

Alix West Lefler: It was an amazing experience! Jessica and Eddie are such lovely and caring people. Actually, before we even started filming, Jessica invited us to have a picnic. And she brought blankets, cookies, snacks, sandwiches, drinks, and it was a lot of fun. The day we started and I first met Eddie on-set, I was literally shaking. My mom told them after the scene that I was shaking, and Jessica said she didn’t even realize it I was being such a pro [laughs].

Out of all the films and shows you’ve done, do you have a favorite role? Or one that you really enjoyed working on?

Alix West Lefler: Well, I couldn’t say that I have a favorite because all of them are my favorites. I love them all for a bunch of different reasons, but Siren was an amazing thing to experience. One, I got to be a mermaid. And, two, I got to work off land and got to work in the water. I had a spear in my hands and I had to keep my eyes open underwater. It was a lot of fun to work with all the free divers.

If you could play any character in any show or movie, who would it be?

Alix West Lefler: I love this question! If I could play a certain character, it would have to be Ryan Reynold’s daughter. I love him. And a TV show or movie would probably have to be Stranger Things.

Lastly, you are filming a new Netflix series—My Life with the Walter Boys. Is there anything you can say about your role?

Alix West Lefler: Actually, we just finished My Life with the Walter Boys. It just wrapped in summer. I play the role of Parker Walter, and Parker has a bit of a chip on her shoulder and is a tomboy. I love playing those tomboy roles so I can do all the different sports.
