A Doggy Birthday: Happy 13th Birthday to our Diesel!

I can remember when I was little, my dog was my best friend. My brother and sister are seven and nine years older than I am, so my dog was like my sibling. I distinctly remember celebrating his birthday every year...I would make him birthday cakes out of dog food (yuck) and stick a candle in it and sing. A few weeks ago, our old, faithfully and ornery chocolate lab Diesel (Bob as Lucas has called him since he learned to talk) turned 13. I felt like this was significant-and our kids are old enough to love parties for any reason-so I enlisted the help of Stephanie from Sweet Paws Dog Bakery in Severna Park (formerly PETisserie at Bakery 39) to help us celebrate in style!
Sweet Paws is just the cutest little shop-the treats look amazing-and although pets are totally welcome, I felt like taking the twins there to pick up our cake was probably enough excitement for me! We did make some friends with other pups visiting while we were there-but my boys were fascinated with all of the fabulous cakes and treats in the display case. They have a water cooler with bowls for visiting pets and even complimentary coffee and 'treats' for the human visitors too!
Donut shaped cakes, iced cookies-Brennan was begging for me to buy him one and while I was explaining they were for dogs-Avery happened to help himself to a sample on the counter. It may have been a dog treat, but Sweet Paw's goodies are all made from human grade and pet safe fruits, vegetables, and grains. They do not use additives, preservatives, salt, or additional sugar and they do not offer any food product that doesn't meet their standard for quality, wholesome ingredients. So when we came home with this amazing ice cake for Diesel and his sister, Marley to share-I was happy to let the boys sample that too! The icing was made from yogurt chips so that was sweet, but the cake wasn't as sweet as a human cake would be-but let me tell you, the dogs-they scarfed it up! Check out this amazing cake!
As if that wasn't enough-we also came home with some amazing treats for the pups. Peanut butter 'animal crackers' and custom birthday cookies coordinating with the cake! Each birthday cake comes with a special birthday plate for the birthday dog or cat and even a birthday hat! You can tell that Stephanie loves what she does- and enjoys helping us spoil our fur-babies!
