1985 classic is now on Netflix!

Back to the Future is a classic movie trilogy and now that all three films are available to view on Netflix USA, fans want to know where the iconic motion pictures were filmed.

The Back to the Future movie trilogy (1985, 1989 and 1990) is one of the most iconic movie series of all time.

The story of a young man called Marty McFly who travels back to 1955 with an eccentric scientist is one that millions of people around the world are familiar with.

What isn’t as well known, are the real-world locations where the original Back to the Future film was filmed.

Almost all of the movie was captured in and around Los Angeles, California, with most of the locations in Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank but also Santa Clarita and West Covina.

Burger King drive-thru

In the opening scene of the original 1985 Back to the Future movie, Marty McFly is on his skateboard and hitches a ride on the back of a pickup truck pulling out of this Burger King restaurant.

Coincidentally, the restaurant was also adjacent to the location of Doc’s garage and homestead in the 1985 film.

The Burger King is located on 535 North Victory Boulevard in Burbank, California.

Puente Hills Mall

Arguably the most well-known location in the Back to the Future trilogy, this mall parking lot is where Marty first meets up with Doc and travels back in time in the DeLorean.

The Puente Hills Mall can be found at 1600 South Azusa Avenue in Rowland Heights, California.

Courthouse Square

The infamous courthouse was the central point of downtown Hill Valley in the 1985 movie and is located in the Universal Studios Backlot at 100 Universal City Plaza in Universal City.

Interestingly, the building was previously known as Mockingbird Square because the 1962 film To Kill A Mockingbird was filmed there.

Whittier High School

The scenes at the Hill Valley High School were filmed at the Whittier High School, although the gymnasium band scene was actually filmed nearby at the McCambridge Recreation Centre.

The school can be found at 12417 Philadelphia Street in Whittier, California.

Interestingly, Whittier High School was attended by former US president Richard Nixon.

Enchantment Under the Sea Dance

The films climactic scenes at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance was filmed at the Hollywood United Methodist Church.

The church can be found at 6817 Franklin Avenue in the city of Los Angeles.

McFly household

The McFly residence is currently a residential household located on 9303 Roslyndale Avenue in Arleta, California.

The street and several adjacent streets were also featured as Hill Valley’s Lyon Estates suburb in the movies.

Twin Pines Ranch

When the DeLorean arrives back in 1955, Marty crashes it into a garage at the Golden Oak Ranch.

The ranch can be found at 19802 Placerita Canyon Road in Newhall, California.

Interestingly, the land is owned by Disney and was a filming location in The Waltons (1972) and the original Parent Trap (1961).

Griffith Park

In order to get back to his own time, Marty needs to reach 88mph by the time he reaches the courthouse. To make the speed, he backs the DeLorean up all the way to Griffith Park.

The park can be found at 2715 North Vermont Canyon Road in Los Angeles, California.
