'Stop removing audio from reels', say Instagram users as songs are unavailable
Users want to write an angry email to Instagram as the app has come under fire for “removing audio from reels” and showing the error message – “This song is currently unavailable”.
One of the most important features on Instagram, Reels lets users create short videos with a range of audio to bring them to life. While the app users are still able to post Reels, the option to select suitable songs appears to be currently unavailable leaving many disappointed.

Irked users have taken to Elon Musk‘s platform, X, to complain about Instagram removing audio from their reels.
A significant number of them have noted the songs they added to their Reels have suddenly gone missing while the video is still showing on their timeline.
They are met with the error message “this song is currently available” when trying to add audio to the Reels, irrespective of what you choose.
As the photo-sharing app hasn’t addressed the issue, users are urging the team to fix it at the earliest. As many of them are faced with the same issue, the function could be dysfunctional due to a potential bug.
Users are irked by ‘song is currently unavailable’ error
Instagram users are annoyed with the soundless Reels and most of them aren’t sure what the error “This song is currently unavailable” is supposed to mean.
For the unversed, the error usually pops up when your device is facing an issue or as we stated earlier, the app is affected by a glitch caused by a possible bug.
In some instances, Instagram may restrict audio in Reels if the sound clip is copyrighted and this may result in the app taking down the post altogether.
One irked user wrote: “My Instagram is back to “This song is currently unavailable. Annoying”
Another said: “This song is currently unavailable” INSTAGRAM is pissing me off”
A third user said: “Instagram, stop removing audio. Seriously, this is obnoxious and now my Reels look like PowerPoint slides.”
Potential fixes for audio unavailable error
If the issue is caused by a technical glitch, you may have to wait until Instagram looks into it. In the meantime, here are a couple of fixes you could try for audio not working in your reel.
- Delete the app on your device and re-install it.
- Log out of the app and log back in.
